  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 02:39 PM) I'm not surprised they relented on pressure to allow them to vote, but it could lead it's way to full defeat. I could see them calculating that officially voting it down was the only way for it to truly start over. As long as it wasn't voted down it wasn't ever dead. Dude, they just trucked a cancer patient across the country to make him vote to bring this to the floor and he did it. They'll pass something in a couple weeks. Literally the only thing that will stop it is John McCain dying.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) Glad he voted yes for the right, selfless reasons. He knows that if other people get the same disease as him, it will motivate them to work harder to earn their insurance and they'll be better people for it.
  3. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) The stuff does still seem to be there. He's made hitters look silly this year, but clearly doesn't have a great feel for his pitches through stretches. In theory, that would make sense given his very limited workload in 2017. I think if he can have a strong 3-4 starts to end the season, we should feel mildly excited about Rodon heading into 2018 I feel like he hasn't learned anything about how to pitch or get outs during the 3 years he's been up. He still seems like he's trying to overpower people with stuff, he still seems like he's throwing the exact same mix of pitches he did in 2015 and trying to work hitters the exact same way. Does he have anything new since then? Do you see him attacking hitters any differently?
  4. QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) Wait WTF is going on with McCain? He gave a speech last week insisting there should be regular order on the Health Care Bill. He then announced he was being treated for cancer. He stayed in Arizona for a few days then they trucked him in to vote against regular order on the health care bill and to make sure that only people like him deserve treatment for cancer. He's now giving a speech about how important it would have been to have regular senate rules followed on the Health Care bill after deciding it wasn't worth voting for. He's getting hugs for it and declaring how he won't vote for the next time it comes up, just like he wouldn't go against regular order on the bill last week. He's scum. He will take advantage of you any way you let him.
  5. QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) It's one way to tarnish your legacy. This has been his legacy his entire career, he's just given the occasional "I'm uncomfortable with the terrible thing I'm about to do" speech before doing terrible thing, and the press laps up how wonderful the speech was. If this tarnishes his legacy, then he shouldn't have had a legacy in the first place because this is normal for him.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 09:49 AM) I fully acknowledged it was a fantasy it disgusts me that he gets so many people to go along with that fantasy. He's the kind of man who can get called a loser by the President, say that he shouldn't have been captured and is a failure as a soldier, get cancer, then drive across the entire country with cancer to support the man who called him a loser and make it so millions of people can't get the same treatment he gets. That does not deserve some fantasy about him being an honorable person. It shouldn't even come to mind.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) It would be hilarious if McCain showed up and voted no and told Trump to kiss his ass on the way out. It won't happen but that would be the best possible ending People have been fantasizing that John McCain is this type of decent person for nearly 20 years now and no matter how many times we see the opposite the fantasy persists.
  8. Apparently had a nice big crowd of boy scouts saluting dear leader and booing hillary clinton and obama tonight.
  9. Yup. It was bound to happen. This is what anyone who has voted Republican in the last 10 years has asked for - preexisting conditions, a huge tax cut for the upper class, and $13,000 a year deductible policies.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 06:00 PM) I honestly think he looks pretty good, but he's got a nasty habit of taking the first pitch every time. You will have some trouble when you're down 0-1 in every count He's probably not used to pitchers coming after him/not being intimidated by him.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 04:27 PM) He actually got kind of hosed on the third strike of the second strikeout...I thought it was outside. he also got kind of hosed when he was asked to bunt.
  12. I would have no problem with Moncada having tried to do that earlier.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) It was destroyed. It laughed at the wind.
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) The only thing Soler has shown is that he cannot hit MLB pitching. The Jorge Soler of today is not the same highly touted prospect a few years ago. The Royals can keep him. I have no problem giving guys who were "highly touted prospects who cannot hit big league pitching" a chance to fill a role next year. I do have a problem with giving things up for them.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) It can be in certain circumstances. Not every single time we get a base runner like Rick seems to believe They're using the "it's practicing under game circumstances" as an excuse. The problem continues to be that if there are any circumstances where we want Moncada sacrificing, EVER, then we have failed in his player development.
  16. Ugh, I hate having Moncada try to square like that. It's so different having a guy sacrifice from having a guy bunt for a hit. If Moncada ever has to actually know how to sacrifice under game conditions then that means to me he's a serious disappointment with the bat. If you want him to bunt, he should be under orders to try to bunt for a hit. I can deal with that.
  17. QUOTE (Scoots @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 02:39 PM) Moncada's nerves showing a bit. At least he is recovering nicely. That's the kind of play I don't mind/expect to see a rookie make a mistake or two on.
  18. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 01:33 PM) I just got back yesterday from a 14 day road trip by myself out to the west coast. (Sioux Falls, Deadwood, Big Sky MT, Coeur d'Alene ID, Seattle, Portland, Boise, Salt Lake City, Denver, Omaha) Spent one night in Sioux Falls and one night in Deadwood along the way. The badlands were really cool and you can basically spend a day there. Mount Rushmore was fun, especially if you're into history. Get ready for all the "Wall Drug" ads along the highway. I saw so many that i was annoyed and refused to stop for it. I enjoyed the little casinos in Deadwood and the way the town looks. $5 Blackjack keeps me pretty happy with beers on the house haha I have a "Where the heck is Wall Drug" bumper sticker on my office door.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 06:50 PM) While Trump obviously has a bunch of personal insanity swirling around him, most of the appointments he's made the policies he's signaled support for are the same stuff we could have expected from a McCain or Romney or Jeb presidency. Trump is doing a lot of damage to institutions and norms, but policy-wise, he's little different from the rest of the GOP. The one place where this is completely untrue is in the dismantling of the State Department and complete destruction of US Foreign Policy Leadership. No one else would be doing that.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) Why not fire Sessions? I don't think democrats would make a stink this time. His primary job is to harass minorities and he's doing an excellent job of that.
  21. QUOTE (Nokona @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) Eloy's ICBM https://twitter.com/ChuckGarfien/status/889200941408419841 Was that guy in the red ducking for cover?
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 05:05 PM) Come on GOP just push reset and get this idiots out. GOP policies aren't as awful as him and his cronies. Just do it. He ran on the platform they've been pushing for a decade, just saying it without the whole "don't be blatantly racist, just casually" filter.
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 10:57 PM) They likely could have increased prospect return by doing so with the Yanks. I think they'll dump Melky to whoever saves them the most coin. I hope to be wrong about that. I seriously doubt the Yankees are going to give up better than what we got from them for a few bucks. We're talking about the Yankees. They can't even bluff cheap and you know that. We picked up one contract from them and cleared a roster spot for them.
  24. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 10:42 PM) I don't see the Sox paying any $$ so that's probably an unrealistic return The Sox aren't paying money while trading Quintana to the Cubs or while trading with the Yankees, but that doesn't mean that if they are trading with the Rays, they can't.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:54 PM) Can the White Sox overcome that level of miscalculation? Appel, Aiken, JD Martinez, Robbie Grossman, Singleton, Chris Johnson/Matt Dominguez... They're still going to have to spend roughly half the Cubs' $440 million invested just in Lester, Heyward, Zobrist and Lackey. The Houston Astros have an opening day payroll this year of $125 million and it took them 6 years to pull together the collection of talent we pulled together in 8 months.
