  1. You don't have to, and nobody's expecting you to. However, be advised that if everyone took that philosophy and applied it, and this team doesn't turn it around in the next 6-8 weeks, there will be some sad seasons on the horizon for the South Side of Chicago. We will have a fire sale, and our free agents will be gone -- along with any hope of a playoff birth for at least 3 seasons.
  2. The other 2/3 we will turn things around??? I dont think so, today this team showed how bad and no heart this players are. So Wednesday's comeback meant we had heart, and today's loss to Detroit means we have no heart? I think this team is closer than ever to breaking out of this season-long slump. Maybe we will, maybe we won't -- but if you want to be a Sox fan, BE ONE. Don't claim to be one, then when they play poorly, start ripping them and jump off the bandwagon.
  3. Like I don't know that?!?! I'm just as frustrated as anyone in here. And it's our right as fans to express that frustration in anyway that we see fit. HOWEVER, when people start making comments such as the ones that I pointed out, they are not helping anything. Constructive criticism is a practice that many in here need to work on, because I'm not seeing much of it. I realize that we should be MUCH better than we've been so far, but all it takes is a good week and we'll all be creaming our jeans like we were at the beginning of the season when there was so much promise and hope. A motto that more people should adhere to, ESPECIALLY fans of baseball.
  4. miles only has 3 errors thus far.. about the same as dj??? i think so.........so they are pretty evenly matched.. only miles isnt lazy........... If Miles is the guy JM wants at 2B and KW is gone..... as you say..... then why is Miles still down in the minors ? Heh, good question.
  5. No, Michelle. I just am getting sick and tired of 90% of people on this board acting like every Sox loss is the end of the world. I'm not saying "it's just a game", because I realize that most of us love this team and want them to win VERY badly. But to make comments like "I'm embarassed to be a Sox fan" and to put members of our team on their "permanent blacklist" after 1/3 of the season is just absurd. :fyou if you think the sky is falling, because it's not. Whether the Sox win or lose, just support your team, and if you think they're the worst team in the history of the game, find a new team to support.
  6. We're now 5-2 against the Tigers. If it wasn't for them, we'd REALLY be upset with this team. So, even though we should be 7-0 against them, to say "we can't beat the Tigers" shows that you are speaking completely off emotion and not at all with your brain. Take a deep breath, go for a walk, and come back in a couple of hours after you've cleared your head, because every post you write during or after a game makes you sound like you know nothing. Just an observation, no offense intended.
  7. Nobody's forcing you to be a Sox fan. If it's so embarassing, take off your Sox cap and put on a Yankee or Cub hat. I don't think many of us would shed a tear if you did so.
  8. Garland threw 6 innings and gave up 2 runs. How the hell does that suck? Moronic statement, Heather.
  9. Jose day: 0-4, 2 DPs. :fyou Jose sucks. And this guy is talking about how poorly other people play? Loser. He needs to look at himself first and fix his problems first... He's the team leader. He is supposed to call out players like that. He could be hitting .125, and calling people out. That's fine with me....that's what he is supposed to do. Utterly wrong. A true team leader would never call out others if he himself was playing below his standards. ONLY when a player is playing up to his capabilities is he allowed to call ANYBODY out. I don't care if he's a HOF'er (which he is not), he can't do that regardless of the situation. The Sox are in this together. They'll either win as a team, or they'll lose as a team. Either way, every single member of the Sox organization needs to worry about doing the best that they can possibly do -- if they all do that, they won't have to worry about the "team leader" calling out anybody.
  10. I guess "compliment" isn't in the vocabulary of more than just 1 person on this board. Nice.
  11. Duck? She's a great golfer -- her status as a female is irrelevant IMO. That said, I think she should have to qualify to play in an PGA event, but since she got a sponsor's pass, we'll see how she does. If she plays well, I would like to see her compete in future tournaments. If she's good enough, she should be allowed to -- the PGA does not specify male or female, so what's the big deal? And the "they have their own tour" is BASELESS. They said the same thing about the Negro league back in the day when blacks "weren't good enough to play with whites".
  12. I like it when they don't just talk baseball. It's nice to hear what they think about various events, not just baseball.
  13. That wasn't funny the first time I read it.
  14. It would be so nice to "hear" you compliment Carlos on how hard he has worked and continues to work on improving his defense. Is that asking too much?
  15. Good call, good call. I stand corrected. Kelly has definitely been excellent so far this season (including ST, he hasn't given up an earned run in like 25 innings), and I overlooked him. Thanks to you and Soxbadger for pointing out an obvious oversight. 4 bright spots -- WOO-HOO!!!!
  16. I thought there would be more than 3, actually, but when you look at it, the 3 that I mentioned are pretty obvious. I was hoping to find more, and it was a reach to say Carlos Lee, but I've seen him hustle a lot this season, and that earns him big bonus points in my book. Hustle is one of the intangibles that doesn't show up in the box score, and unfortunately for the Sox, doesn't show up on the field very often.
  17. Except for the fact that his s***ty play is killing the team every day...we can't afford to have his ass out there right now. Rotate Daubach and Frank between 1B and DH for the next week or so and see if he can work it out. *I can't believe I'm about to defend a guy who's playing as poorly as PK has* With all due respect, PK is not costing us many games lately. Sure, a timely hit now and then would be nice, but if you look at our past 4 games (all losses), there have been 2 or 3 things that have cost us, and none of them are Paul Konerko. 1) Team defense. Jose Valentin's error on either Saturday or Sunday helped cost us that game. Had he been able to turn that DP (it would have been tough, yes, but it was doable), we likely would have come away with that win. 2) Team pitching. We've lost 18-3 and 12-2 in the past 4 days, and there was nothing that PK could do about that. 3) Team speed and timely hitting. These cost us on Saturday. We put together 4 hits in the inning (7th inning, I think it was), and we could only come away with 1 run as a result. We left the bases loaded, and blew a shot at a victory. So right now, our s***ty play has been a collective effort, and the blame shouldn't fall on just Konerko. But, you're right -- his play certainly hasn't helped anything, and he needs to get his head straight and start earning his paycheck.
  18. Yes. Horrible doesn't even begin to describe it. However, sitting on the bench isn't going to improve his stats. He needs to get his AB's, and if he's going to break out of it, he will. If not, though, we'll continually be reminded of how much we overpaid for him. Hopefully the former will be the case. No it won't immediately, but he needs a few days off to clear his head. I don't think sitting on the bench for poor play is going to clear his head at all, because he'll constantly be reminded of why he's not playing -- his poor play. Being out in the field every half-inning will be the best thing to help clear his head IMO. Being a DH while in a slump is hard enough, but sitting on the bench during a slump is even harder.
  19. Yes. Horrible doesn't even begin to describe it. However, sitting on the bench isn't going to improve his stats. He needs to get his AB's, and if he's going to break out of it, he will. If not, though, we'll continually be reminded of how much we overpaid for him. Hopefully the former will be the case.
  20. While it's been mostly bad, it hasn't been ALL bad so far for this season's Sox squad. - D'Angelo Jimenez -- some of you really dislike him, and he's make a few gaffes (both in the field and on the base paths), but he's been our most consistent offensive threat. He's hitting .299, his OBP is .391, and his OPS is over .850. - Esteban Loaiza -- after his 5-0 start, he had that horrible start against Seattle, but since then he has settled down again with 3 quality starts and has lowered his AL-leading ERA to 1.99. He's got a 7-1 record, and has by far been the Sox best pitcher. A 1.04 WHIP, an opponents batting average of .210, and an opponents SLG of .290. A very pleasant surprise considering the circumstances in which the Sox obtained him. - Damaso Marte -- had an extremely impressive 2002 season, and has been even more stellar so far in '03. An ERA of 1.69, an opponents avg of .175, and an opponents SLG of .246. He's poised to take over the closer's role if Billy Koch's recent improvement takes a turn for the worst. Unfortunately, those are really the only true bright spots for the Sox so far. The only other player really worthy of mention is Carlos Lee. He had an absolutely horrid start, but he's got his average up to a some-what respectable .266, and he's always hustling out in LF and on the base paths. If everyone on our team tried as much as Lee does, we'd be much better off IMO. Just trying to find some glimmers of light at the end of this long, dark, cold tunnel.
  21. Heh, 1990, Frank Thomas? Just a guess.
  22. Too much to give up for a guy whose career best year was only 27 HR. Plus, if you want to trade Wunsch, his value will be MUCH higher later in the season when the teams competing for a pennant will be getting desperate for left-handed help in the pen You're joking, right? 3 young arms (one of which is one of the most dominant lefties in the league) and an All-Star for Nick Johnson, a career .251 hitter? 3 young arms for Catalanotto? I say that's too much.
  23. Jason, you'd be willing to take on an $11.5M a year contract on a pitcher coming off of his 2nd Tommy John surgery? Sure, he's pitching lights out through about 10 starts, but who knows how long his arm will hold up? Plus, he's got very average at best numbers throughout his career -- ESPECIALLY for a guy making as much as he is. I think the Sox could spend that money MUCH more wisely than on Darren Dreifort. Not to mention that his trade value at this time will never be higher, so the Sox would have to give up too much to get him.
  24. Heh. Maybe that was a bit harsh -- Sox rage syndrome is infecting me. then direct your issues to the right people.... call jr and give him hell.......... I don't see JR wearing a uniform, do you? Blame the players that don't seem to care, not the guy sitting up in the suite with his head in his hands. His head is in his hands to hide the laughter as he laughs all the way to the bank. With the attendance the way it's been so far, I doubt his deposit slips at the local bank have very many 0's on them. It's just an all-around sad display of baseball by, supposedly, the 3rd largest market in the country. We deserve infinitely better.
