Even though I haven't read the book of Jonah yet, I think I know what you meant by your vine comment. I believe you basically were saying that you wonder how I'll feel when I one day screw up -- will I expect a 2nd chance, or will I be forced to take my own "you f***ed up, screw you" medicine? Is that accurate? Let me say that I am not claiming to be perfect. I have my flaws, and I am aware of what they are (impatient, procrastination, stubborn to name a few). All I expect out of people is to take responsibility for the choices they make in life. Is that asking too much?

I seem to be the only one who thinks he'll be in some day (and deservedly so, IMO). My rationale is simple really -- he was perhaps the most dominant offensive player of an entire decade. He has nearly 400 HR, over 1200 RBI, and is almost a .300 hitter. What more can you ask from a player? IMO, any player that does so well over a 10 year period deserves a spot in Cooperstown. Think about it...there have been like 12 decades in baseball history, and Belle was one of probably 2 players (along with Frank) that dominated most in the 1990's.

Well, Junior is in Jonah, but in my avatar he is portraying "Lyle" in Lyle the Kindly Viking (one of Veggie Tales' best cartoons, btw). So, he's not a liar. But, he watches Veggie Tales, so I'll give him a pass.

Assinine? Hardly. You're right, kids DO do stupid things before growing up. I did my share of them, and I was a relatively well-mannered child. I never did anything that involved the police or anything that caused any real loss to anybody. However, we need to keep in mind that, as Jason said, stealing a car radio is not something that is normal for a teenager to do. And stealing a credit card? Is that your everyday, run-of-the-mill crime for a 16 yr old? I think not. And the fact that the youngest delinquent will get his slate wiped clean when he turns 18 is absurd. Just because you're "under age", that doesn't mean your actions should be hidden from the world when you hit a certain age. Anyone old enough to break into a car, steal a car radio and credit cards from a person is old enough to have it on their "rap sheet" as if they were an adult. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

You have the veggie tale Jonah as your avatar - read the book of Jonah. Your distinctions between "good" people and others is something not supportable by the book of Jonah or the other books in which Jonah is normally contained. Nor by psychology, nor by real life. My avatar is not of Jonah. It is Lyle the Kindly Viking (Junior Asparagus). Get it straight, buddy. Also, you never explained the vine thing...or is it something that I'll find in the book of Jonah?

And if the Sox hadn't played so s***ty in 2001 and particularly 2002, maybe a $90M payroll would be feasible in the near future. As it stands, it ain't gonna happen. -
Young people who ruin their lives by doing stupid stuff like this likely didn't have bright futures ahead of them anyway, so they might as well break the law at a young age and end up behind bars where they belong. you ever actually read the book of Jonah? You remind me so much of Jonah before he got informed on the nature of grace and compassion - I want to be around the day your vine dies - The crimes they were arrested for are not simple "mistakes". They are CRITICAL lapses in judgement that good people simply do not have. Please explain the vine dying statement. I do not know what that means.

If you're referring to the Sports Illustrated article that came out a couple of months ago, I think you should re-think your position on Kirby. In his recent trial, he was found not guilty of "groping" a woman at some club or something. It seems to me that SI jumped the gun on painting Kirby as a bad guy. Plus, if you're going to say that Kirby shouldn't be in because he's "not a good guy", there'd be a lot of guys taken out of the HOF -- would you support such action? Kirby's "good guy" image (coupled with the way his career ended) made him get into the Hall faster, but with the stats he compiled and contributions he made to baseball, he deserves to be in.

Not if $50M of that $90M was underachieving like the Sox have since the 2000 season. -
Good point. The best predicter of future behavior is past behavior, and so far in '03, the Sox have given us no reason (until yesterday) to believe that they have the heart to come back from a late-inning deficit. Saturday's game could be a turning point. But, we've said that a couple times already this season. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Hmmm...I noticed him stretching out his wrist/arm, but not the finger thing. Wasn't paying THAT close of attention, though. I doubt Bartolo is injured. He probably pitched his best game so far this year yesterday, so I'm not too worried about it.

Cleveland was down 12-0 after 2 innings, and down 14-2 after the top of the 7th. Then they scored 3 in the 7th, 4 in the 8th, and 5 in the 9th (with 2 outs) to tie it, and they eventually won it 15-14 in 11 innings.

He played as many seasons (12) as Kirby did.

Replies like the one you gave him is just what he's looking for. He's trying to get under your skin, and it appears that he was successful in doing so. -
On the flip side, you could say that at least lately, we've been getting baserunners on TO strand.

I'm just sitting here watching the Albert SportsCentury show on ESPN Classic, and it's very apparent to me that he has severe issues. However, as a baseball player, I feel he put up the numbers to be in the HOF one day. He was, IMO, one of the 2 best hitters of the 1990's decade. Frank was #1 IMO, but Albert wasn't far behind. .295 career average, 381 HR, 1239 RBI. There's not much doubt that had he played a full, healthy career, he would have likely reached 500 HR plateau. The only thing that might keep him out was his attitude, but in time, I think that people will forget that some and he'll make it in based on his numbers. HOF -- yes or no?

If the rumors are true, KW won't be in the GM position in '04, so any of "his boys" are subject to trade once he steps down or gets canned. BTW, where's Frank in your lineup? If KW's boys get to stay, wouldn't Frank get to? Afterall, he's supposedly JR's boy -- and I would think JR's boys take priority over KW's. No? And yes, Borchard hitting 3rd in '04 is a joke.

Over the past 7 days, here are some of the Sox hitters' statistics... Daubach (4-7) .571 Olivo (5-13) .385 Crede (7-22) .318 Lee (6-19) .316 Jimenez (5-16) .313 Graffanino (2-7) .286 Guys who need to step it up are Magglio (.273, not bad, but should be around .300), Frank (.263), and Paulie (.211). Hopefully this is just the start of our team waking the hell up. We'll see if we can pad those numbers today vs. the soft-tossing lefty, Jamie Moyer.

I read that garbage once, not going to bother again... and I'm done with this exchange. Yes...since my comments in this thread did not involve you in any way, shape or form, maybe it's best if you STFU. I agree.

"b**** and b**** about it"? If memory serves me correctly, I've brought up the inside joke issue 1 time. I suggest you read what I say before you start posting rebuttles. Might help your cause just a bit.

The "KW news" isn't news. It's rumor/speculation. Until something actually happens, it's nothing more than that. And I don't expect you to name names when it comes to your "source(s)". All I ask is that when you "know something", you give specific details, and perhaps the qualifications of the source -- not specifics about the source him/herself. There is a difference between the two. "Stunk up the joint"? I've noticed that since I've joined this board, I've brought a little bit of life and added a different perspective to quite a few threads. Maybe I'm missing something, but is that a bad thing? Loyalty is one thing -- vagueness for the sake of being vague is a complete other.
-
Heh, good question. I didn't ask you to.

Yep. As long as we're changing the lineup every game, we're not going to win on a regular basis. We may win a game here and there, but it will be nothing sustained over a period of more than 2 or 3 days.
