People's own insecurites about themselves make them wish for the failure of others. It's a psychological problem that many people in this world have in which they cannot stand to see people be more successful then they are, and their jealousy causes them to wish ill upon them. The sad part is that if they would just stop worrying about others failing and focus more on their own success, they might actually make something of their lives. Instead, they typically lead mediocre, sad existances, and die unhappy.

You say that, but we're in late August, and over half (17 of 30) of the teams in baseball have a legitimate chance at making the post season. I cannot recall that EVER happening in my 15 years of being a baseball fan. And as far as the Expos go, they are one of those 17 teams. They are just 3 games back in the NL Wild Card race. Granted, they're going to have to leap over 6 teams to win it, so it's not very likely, but if they were to go on a 13-1 streak like the Sox did, they would be in the lead. So, while it may seem that there is no parity in MLB in 2003, there in fact has never been more. I heard on ESPN Radio this morning that there are as many teams still in contention as there can mathematically be. I don't know if that is true or if they were exaggerating, but I can't imagine having more than 17 teams in contention this late in the season. And to say that Bud Selig is to blame for the "melt-down of teams" and "disgusting state of the game" is inaccurate and unfair IMO. Bud is the one that instituted the wild card, which is keeping baseball fans in Boston, Los Angeles, Arizona, Philadelphia, and Florida glued to their TV when they otherwise would have given up on the season. It's also given fans of Boston, Seattle, Oakland, Chicago (Cubs), Houston, and St Louis a shot at the post season if they don't win their division. A major reason why there are teams as bad as the Tigers is because their owner simply isn't willing to spend the money to be competitive. IMO, that is not Bud's fault. And conversely, if a team is willing to give a mediocre player a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract, that too is not Bud's fault.

http://www.cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/story/6591689 The Sox went from 15th last week to 7th this week following their 6-1 homestand. That's awesome! Hopefully this time next week, they'll be even higher. , Bronx Bombers!

Well Tejada had a very good day on Sunday (3 hits, including a Grand Slam), and Frank went 0 for 3, which allowed Tejada to sneak in and get a share of the honor. Still, it was a very good week for the big man, and hopefully is a sign of things to come.

Glad to see it took a neo-nazi to perform the duties necessary to bring a scumbag to justice.

I just spent nearly an hour working my way through this mess, and I can honestly say it's the most pointless thread that I've read so far in my few months as a member here. And Bmr, your stat-padding tactics are sickening. Just a month ago, you were like 300 posts ahead of me -- now it's nearly 1,000 . You need to get your ass off the lazyboy and into an office . I know these 2 guys, John and Mike, maybe they can help you get a job. Give em a call at 555-LMAO.

, wow. Having him in a Sox uniform for the rest of his career would definitely be solid. Although, I'm sure the presence of his brother has made a big difference to him. Sandy has played well this year -- maybe the Sox catching duo in '04 will remain Sandy and Miguel? , Robbie!

Well, the article on Chisox.com said that Koch could return to us this weekend in Detroit. If so, that's not quite September 1, so we'd likely send Harris down for a couple of days, then recall him on the 1st. So either way, it's not going to affect the roster in that big of a way.

I was checkin' out some statistics and such on ESPN's website, and here is how we have fared against the other teams so far in '03. We have records against... Anaheim (4-3), Baltimore (4-2), Detroit (9-7), Kansas City (7-5), Minnesota (7-5), Toronto (6-3), Chicago Cubs (4-2), San Diego (2-1), and Los Angeles (2-1) We have records against... Oakland (4-5), Seattle (2-7), Texas (3-4), Arizona (1-2), and San Francisco (1-2) And finally, we have records against... Boston (2-2), Cleveland (8-8), and Tampa Bay (3-3) ------------------------ So with the exception of Seattle, we're pretty close to .500 against every team, with more winning records than losing records. If the Sox can hold this trend for the rest of the regular season, we should win the Central.

Baseball Prospectus' website probably does, but I think you have to pay to register with them. The only other idea I can come up with is ESPN.com.

As far as our road trip goes, I'm hoping for 4-2, and if I could pick my wins, I would prefer 2 against the Yankees and 2 against the Tigers. If we come back 4-2, it would have to be considered a success, IMO.

Yes, he did. 2 in the Monday game vs. the Angels 1 in the 1st Texas game on Thursday 1 in the 2nd Texas game on Friday 2 in the 3rd Texas game on Saturday That's 6, and he shared AL Player of the Week honors with Tejada. And Frank is only 9 away from his career high of 43 HR set back in the 2000 season. It would be awesome to see him get it, not only because I'm a huge fan of his, but also because if he continues his power onslaught, it bodes VERY well for the Sox chances at the division.

For those Koch detractors, you'd better come to the realization that unless he comes back healthy and throwing in the upper-90's, the Sox are going to make a quick exit in the post-season if we happen to make it that far. His healthy return would make our bullpen so much better, and any real baseball fan knows that. We all are disappointed with the way he's pitched so far in '03, but nobody is more disappointed in his performance than Billy himself, and I think he's got a lot to prove not only to Sox management, but to the Sox fans themselves. As Sox fans, though, how can you not be rooting for the guy?

*yawn* Can we get a smiley holding a sign that says "NASCAR is NOT a sport"?

Chicks decide VERY early on whether or not they're going to f*** a dude. All the sweet talking and ass kissing isn't going to change her decision. And if the chick is an 8 or a 9, chances are she's not going to give it up to you anyway, so you're wasting your time by showering her with praise. Just set your target on the 6's and 7's -- they're more in range until you get older and have money. And in HS, if you're getting laid, you're lucky, and beggars cannot be choosers. Unless, of course, you're on the football team or something, but for your average nerdy HS kid, any poon is good (unless the chick is a 1.9 or something). :puke

Like HSC said, nobody is putting up the power numbers that Frank is over the past week, but something that I forgot to mention is that his team is 6-0 during his hot stretch, showing that it's not being put to waste. The Sox are in a pennant race, and are in 1st place, and Frank has been a KEY component of that. Bonds had 2 walk-off HR's, but he missed like 3 or 4 games so far this week, so IMO he's not eligible for the honor. And even if he was, I'd say Frank still should get it because the Giants aren't in much of a race, whereas the Sox are in a dog fight.

Well, we've gotten SOLID starting pitching this homestand. Our starters are 6-0 with a 2.48 ERA, and our relievers have an ERA of 0.64 with 5 saves and 14 strikeouts in 11 innings Offensively, Frank (6 HR and 12 RBI in 6 games) and pretty much everyone else has been murdering the ball. Joe Crede is on fire (6 for 11 this series after missing the Anaheim series with a foot injury), Jose Valentin is hot (4 HR, 8 RBI in his last 4 games), Carlos Lee is hot (8 RBI in the homestand), Carl Everett is hot (.619 OBP and a .500 avg this homestand) -- needless to say, the whole team is pretty much hot right now. We're playing as well as we've played all year, and hopefully we can keep it up today and get the sweep and take the show on the road to the Bronx. Oh, and Sunday night, Bmr said to us all that he had a vision, and that the Sox were going to be hot for the rest of the year. Since then, we've been unstoppable.

Is Frank Thomas. Here's what he's done since the start of this week (Monday at home against the Angels) in 6 games heading into Sunday's finale with Texas... 7 for 25 (.280 avg) 6 HR (including the game winner on the 18th vs. Anaheim) 12 RBI 1.080 SLG With the week not being over yet, this obviously is not official, but if Frank isn't named the POTW, they ought to eliminate that distinction. Keep mashing, big man!

If the arrest warrant is unsealed, the defense would have a good case for a change of venue. In a small town like Eagle, CO, there's no way Kobe will be able to get a fair trial if this warrant is made public. Moronic judge.

Extra ticket for tomorrow night's game!

Do I get a free lap dance with the ticket? -
Not surprising. And the fact that it's not surprising is sad.
