  1. Howdy all. Haven't been around in quite some time. Reason? I think most of you know. Anyway, it appears that 2003 is over for the Chicago White Sox. Our starting pitching and offense has let us down greatly in the 2 most important games of the season, and barring a miracle, it has put the Sox out of contention for the Central division. It's really quite unfortunate, too, because I think most of us will agree that if the Sox had made the playoffs, ANYTHING could have happened. With our top 3 starters and offense, we really could have beaten ANY team. But, the most unfortunate thing about this is that we've got a great lineup, but it's likely to be extremely different come Opening Day 2004. JR is not going to increase payroll (why should/would he?), and our free agents are not going to re-sign IMO. Colon is almost certainly gone, as will be Carl Everett and Robbie Alomar. Who knows what will happen with Frank, and Carlos Lee is also going to be a free agent (I believe). If we go 8-3 or something over our final 11 games and the Twins implode, who knows. But, from where I sit in chilly So Cal, it's looking extremely bleak.
  2. Carmen Electra is a goddess.
  3. I don't really care much about our olympic basketball team because the US, unlike other countries, doesn't put the best 12 guys on the team, nor do we pick the best coach to coach them.
  4. Over 20% of the Tigers' wins have come against the Sox. That is pathetic, both for them and for us.
  5. Playing devil's advocate, MLB is doing the right thing. If a ball batted by an aluminum bat were to strike a fan during BP, there might be a way for a lawyer to build a case for a lawsuit. The lawyer could make the argument that the disclaimer on the back of the ticket only covers injuries sustained with the proper equipment, and he/she could argue that the aluminum bat is NOT standard equipment and that the risk of injury increases with a metal bat as opposed to a wood bat. And MLB is just protecting themselves from that by imposing this "no aluminum bats in BP" rule. I'm NOT saying I agree with that, but I can see how they would think that way. And like HSC said, a person can get struck with a ball batted off a wood bat just as easily as they can a ball struck by a metal bat. And in reference to the person being hit being a little girl, where were her parents? She was obviously unable to protect herself from being hit, so her parents should have been doing the protecting. to neglegent parents. And BTW, that disclaimer on sporting tickets is a "contract of adhesion", and is often fairly easy to have overturned in court. A very brief way to explain what a contract of adhesion is that it's a contract that you must enter into if you wish to do a certain activity (such as go to a baseball game, go to a concert, park in a commercial parking structure, etc). It's a "take-it-or-leave-it" contract. So when you want to park your car in a parking structure and you have to push the button and take the ticket in order for the arm to raise so you can get in, if you read the back of that ticket, it says they are not liable for any theft, damage, etc that may happen to your vehicle while it's parked in there. But, if something does happen, that does not mean they are not liable. If you can prove that they were in some way neglegent (such as taking inadequate measures to keep theives and vandals out), they are very much liable, regardless of their "disclaimer". Same could be said for a baseball game. Let's say a player intentionally throws a ball into the crowd and strikes an elderly man in the head, killing him. The ticket says they are not responsible for a fan being struck by a ball, but in this case, there was obvious negligence, and that player, team, and probably MLB as well would be SCREWED. Or, if a ball is fouled back to the screen, and there's a hole in it and the ball sneaks through and strikes someone, they are screwed then too. It's all a case-by-case basis as to whether or not the contract absolves them of liability.
  6. Bingo. If an employee is slacking off and not giving what the company feels is a full-out, honest effort, they have EVERY right to discipline that employee however they see fit.
  7. I think he meant sex partners.
  8. A little girl got hit with a line drive during BP before Thursday's Yankee game. The article did NOT specify which team hit the ball, but either way, I'm sure this is just a knee-jerk reaction by MLB.
  9. I wouldn't be surprised if this has been posted already, and if it has, I apologize, but MB expressed EXACTLY what many of us rational people (i.e., those who haven't looked for tall buildings to leap off of) have been saying about yesterday's game and the decision to start Neal over Mark.... Cut and pasted from Chisox.com After the fact, Buehrle reacted diplomatically, stating that the same fate could have befallen him in the first inning. “I never pitched here either, so I could have had nerves going too,” said Buehrle, who wanted to pitch in the only American League park where he never worked. “But I think that a lot had to do with waiting until the day before and then saying (Cotts) is pitching. “They also waited to see if we won (Wednesday), maybe showing they don’t have as much confidence in him as he thought they did. I could have done the same thing (as Cotts), if not worse. “It’s a decision Jerry made,” Buehrle added. “It didn’t work out, and now we have to go into Detroit and take care of business.” --------------------------- Halle-friggin-lujah. Not only did Mark show some intelligence, he showed some leadership too. That's definitely a good thing to see, and hopefully his confidence (or at least the guise of confidence) in Neal is shared by the other 23 guys in the clubhouse. Cotts is going to need all the support he can get when he makes his next start (which could be at home against Boston ). Mark!
  10. Let's hope posts at Soxtalk.com is the only thing you've accumulated 100,000 of.
  11. Remember, it's the "victim" that has privacy rights. The accused has their name plastered everywhere for everyone to see. Some fair legal system we have, eh?
  12. Not by anyone on here. JM could be proven to be the 2nd coming of Christ in disguise and people here would still want his head. But, I think most will agree that managers (and head coaches in other sports as well) take too much blame when things go poorly, and too much credit when they go well. That's how I feel, at least.

    STOP!!!

He's stupid for letting Cotts pitch, you mean. And well...tomorrow's outcome will have a bearing on how good or bad today's decision was. If MB pitches well and we win, all will be forgotten, IMO.

    STOP!!!

Cluejer ur not someone I usually disagree with, but u need to foulke off on this one...the guy makes sense...heck I thought that the sox would get swept...dead wrong boys...theses guys are good. LOL...I was joking dude. Bmr knew that. Read my other posts -- I'm VERY happy with the Sox played @ NYY. And you usually don't disagree with me?
  15. I'm in too good of a mood today to get into it, so (OJ & Stoli for me, just OJ for you).
  16. clujer420

    STOP!!!

I didn't see you saying anything about Texas "throwing the series" when they were getting pummeled by us at USCF. And like Bmr said, they probably just don't care very much anymore, it's not that they're purposely losing.
  17. But you know DAMNED well that had Manuel let MB and the players make the decision, there would be JUST as many people saying "JM has no control over the team, he's letting the inmates run the asylum". That's exactly what would have happened, I guar-an-friggin-tee it. So either way, JM is a moron in many people's eyes, and it's unfortunate IMO. And yes, it's all a moot point if MB comes out and pitches well tomorrow and we win 7-3 or something like that.
  18. Us at Soxtalk.com panic? Nahhhhhh.
  19. clujer420

    STOP!!!

The vison remains in tact and i still believe in it. I just think this game today really SUCKED. I wouldn't know, I slept for the whole thing. Maybe I jinxed them. I'll be sure to watch tomorrow and see what happens! In the mean time, (OJ and Stoli).
  20. clujer420

    STOP!!!

This coming from a guy with "visions", then the Sox go out and lose 2 of their last 10 games.
  21. Only on Soxtalk.com will Sox fans be nearly coming to blows after winning 2 of 3 in the Bronx. Some of you really make me sick. :puke
