  1. KipWellsFan, great job at doing the play by play. Very informative and up to speed. Keep it up buddy !! What am I, chopped liver?
  2. , we'd win the World Series. Plain and simple. *sigh* if only.
  3. Sweet. Nice job by the team of holding the Angels after allowing 3 pretty early runs. Wunsch and Ginter are looking good, and Josh did a fine job today. Maybe he can squeeze his way into the rotation? It's possible. Sox are playing good this Spring!
  4. Yeah, and when my friend asks me later today "What did the Sox do today", I can give him an earful.
  5. Along with his $25M a year salary? If we're not considering money, I agree. If we are, I think we could spend $25M MUCH more wisely. s***, we'd be able to get Pedro and another quality starter for that money.
  6. Kelly! Anyway, I'm at a computer that doesn't have audio for some reason (Real is crashing), so I can't listen to the game...so I'm enjoying these updates.
  7. LOL, Randy Johnson? That'll happen. But, like you said, if we're talking something in the realm of possibility, I'd go with a player like Darren Erstad. I know he's probably untouchable now that the Angles went on to win the WS, but we almost had him at one time, and I think he would be a great addition to the team. He could fill our CF need, and would be a good lead-off hitter. I love his hussle and desire.
  8. I'd always prefer my team be competitive and lose as opposed to being huge underachievers. The choice is easy -- the A's past 2 seasons
  9. Hey guys, I do have a life outside of recapping Sox games, so I'm outta here. The Sox are up in their half of the 5th, and they're down 3-1. Harris looked horrible, Stewart is looking pretty good, and our defense has been bad today. Hope my play-by-play was good while it lasted.
  10. Top 5 Stewart still in there for his 3rd inning (2 IP, 2 hits, 1 walk, 2 runs, 1 ER so far) - Wooten flies out to Rios - Davannon strikes out looking. Josh's 1st strikeout of the game - Benji Gil grounds out to end the inning Ahh, that announcers have a new theory as to why Gordon started today. They think it might have been because the weather was uncertain, and they wanted to be sure to get him his 2 innings of work. Apparently Stewart was supposed to start. They still say it's possible they're thinking about Gordon starting as the #5 guy, but I really doubt it. I like him in the pen where he belongs. 1-2-3 go the Angels Through 4 1/2, Sox down 3-1
  11. Bottom 4 - Lee (1-1; single) leads off with a walk - Rios (1-1; bunt single) jam shot to 2nd, fielded, Rios out at 1st. Lee to 2nd - Rowand (0-1) grounder past 3rd...Lee scores, Rowand SAFE at 2nd. 3-1 Anaheim, Sox with Rowand on 2nd with 1 out. - Graffy (1-1; single) walks on 4 pitches. 1st and 2nd with 1 out - Paul (0-1) up. Wild throw on pick-off attempt goes into CF. Runners move up 90 feet. 2nd and 3rd, still 1 out. Paul goes down swinging again. WTF man? 4 runners stranded in scoring position with less than 2 out for Josh. 2 down - Jimenez (0-2) flies out to again end the threat 1 hit, 2 walks, 1 run, 2 left in scoring position End 4, Sox now trail it 3-1
  12. Top 4 Josh Stewart stays in for his 2nd inning - Benji Gil flies one off the wall for a stand-up double - Benji Molina grounds it to Harris for the 1st out. Gil to 3rd. Great funadmentals by the Angels. - Kerry Johnson walks. 1st and 3rd, 1 out - Keith Johnson grounds to Harris. He flips the ball wide of Jimenez. Another error. Run scores, everyone is safe. Get Harris out of there. 2-0 Anaheim - Flyball to Rowand. Out #2 - Owens lines one to RF for a hit. Awful throw by Rios, run scores. 3-0 Halos. They aren't sure when Colon is going to pitch next. For those who don't know, he was supposed to start yesterday vs. Arizona, but it was rained out. Why is this reminding me of our games last year vs. the Angels? Walks, errors, Angels playing small ball, getting big leads... - Grounder to Graffy, force at 2nd...inning over Through 3 1/2, Sox now trail it 3-0
  13. Bottom 3 - Harris (0-1) grounds out to first. 1 down - Frank Thomas (1-1; single) goes down swinging. 2 away - Konerko (0-1) high flyball into LF to the warning track. Side retired End 3, Sox down 1-0
  14. Top 3 Josh Stewart (3.38 ERA) in for Gordon - Owens grounder to Harris, under his glove. E4 - Salmon flies out to right for out #1 Wow...the Angels started off 6-14 in 2002. - Owens steals 2nd and Paul 1-hops Harris...nice arm - Flyout to Rowand in CF for out #2 - Davannan (sp?) pops out to Konerko to end the inning 0 runs, 0 hits, 1 error, 1 left Through 2 1/2, Sox trail it 1-0
  15. Bottom 2 - Lee grounder off Johnson's glove at 3rd, into LF for a basehit - Rios bunts, Lackey slips while throwing, Rios safe at 1st. 2 on, 0 out - Rowand tips one into catcher's glove on a 2-2 count. 1 down - Graffy ropes it to RF...Lee gets the stop sign, bases loaded with 1 out for... - Paul stares at a curve for strike 3. 2 down - Jimenez grounds out to end the threat. Sox waste a golden opportunity. End 2, Angels up 1-0
  16. Top 2 Gordon still in the game for his 2nd inning of work - Jeff Davannan (sp?) goes down looking. 3rd K for Gordon Announcer think Gordon might be starting to see if he could possibly be our 5th starter since it appears Wright will not be ready in time. Interesting. - Basehit for the next guy. - Benji Molina HBP. 2 on, 1 out - Grounder to Konerko, throw to 2nd for a force. Jimenez hesitates and they can't turn the DP. 1st and 3rd with 2 out - Keith Johnson hits one down the line, bad hop over Graffy, and it's an RBI double. Runners now at 2nd and 3rd - Next guy foul-tips one into Paul's glove for out #3. 2 hits, 1 HBP, 1 run, 2 left, 2 K's (4 in the game) Through 1 1/2, Angels up 1-0
  17. Bottom 1 John Lackey pitching for Anaheim - D'Angelo Jimenez grounds out - Willie Harris grounds out - Frank Thomas (4 walks and 1 K so far this Spring. Announcers say his swing is looking great). Basehit into the hole between SS and 3rd - Paul Konerko (15 for 31) pops out to end the inning End 1, no score
  18. That could be correct...can't remember for sure.
  19. Top 1 , Gordon starting? Cool - guess we'll see Colon later in the game - Lead-off hitter grounds out to Harris. 1 down - Eric Owens hits one between Graffy (3b) and Jimenez (SS) for a single - Salmon k's on breaking ball. 2 away - Owens steals 2nd (announcers say he stole it off Gordon) - Shawn Wooten whiffs at a curveball for the 3rd out. Through a half inning, 2 k's for Gordon, and the Sox coming up
  20. Good point with actors...they make some of the crappiest movies and get paid millions for them. Good point. And of course they should take the money. All of us would, and I'd certainly take it as well. Basically it comes down to the owners saying "enough is enough" and maybe only giving the truly deserving people the mega bucks. I mean, a guy will have a good year in the final year of his contract, and cash in for a 5-year, $40M contract because of it. An example of that is the 3rd baseman that played for the Rockies and then got a huge contract. I can't think of his name at the moment, but it was insane. It starts with the owners.
  21. I read that due to off-days, Buehrle and Colon are only scheduled to pitch on back-to-back days 1 time in the first 2 months of the season (it might have been 0 times, now that I think about it, but I can't say that for certain). So, basically what that means is Alomar will catch Buehrle say, on a Sunday, and then the Sox are off Monday, and he'll catch Colon on Tuesday. Of course, with it being early in the season, there will likely be a rainout that will f*** it up, but if not, we can have a healthy Sandy for the first couple of months of the season at least. That is going to be great for the Sox, as we're seeing what Sandy is capable of when healthy (he's hitting like .600 this Spring in limited action).
  22. Let's see... .314 career batting average 376 career HR 1285 career RBI .432 career OBP .568 career SLG% 1.000 career OBPS 1286 career Walks (compared to 962 K's -- 324 more walks than K's) 2-time league MVP Future Hall of Famer Yeah, you're right, he should be making the league minimum. Before you post in the future, I suggest you read what you typed first. Otherwise, you might say something completely f***ing stupid. And I suggest you start liking Frank. He's perhaps the biggest key to success this season. See 2000.
  23. I never mentioned A-Rod's salary in relation to a teacher's salary. Someone needs to read more carefully. What I said was that baseball players in general make too much money in relation to teachers. The contracts have gotten completely out of hand in the past decade, and it's ridiculous. They make WAY too much money to play a game, and like I said, I hope off-season '02-'03 is a sign of things to come. Teachers make $40K per year, and play a fairly large role in raising and influencing dozens of kids. The average major league player makes $3M a year, and that comes out to $18,518.52 per GAME...the key word being game. Anyone who thinks that isn't absurd is sadly misguided.
  24. Well...if Texas didn't give A-Rod that kind of money, some other team would have. It's just the way the game is. I hope this most recent off-season is a sign of things to come, because the contracts are getting out of hand. They are making toooo much money to play a game. Yes, they bring in tons of revenue, but when a guy who hits .250 with 25 HR is making $5M a year, while a teacher makes $40K, there is a problem.
