Wow, that sucks. I've never been to Comiskey/US Cellular, so you would know better than me. All I know for certain is that I'm gonna vote like mad when I'm at the Dodger/Sox games in June. The ballots are all over the place at Dodger Stadium.

I was looking at the box score from today's 5-0 shutout victory over the Halos, and I noticed that David Sanders is still with the team, and hasn't been sent to AAA yet. He's pitched really well so far, and I think the Sox would probably have him as their 3rd lefty out of the pen (he'll start the season in AAA, but if Wunsch falters, Sanders would take his place). Also, I really like this team you guys. We've got several players that can step in if someone gets injured or slumps. We've got Daubach, Graffanino, and Rios on the bench (all quality players), and guys like Aaron Miles, Joe Borchard, and Josh Stewart who will (likely) be in AAA and available for call-up at a moment's notice.

IMO, the most impressive thing about Josh's game today was not his 5 scoreless innings. To me, the most impressive thing is his 5 walkless innings. The Sox seem to be doing much better so far in terms of walks. Walks killed us last year (they always seem to, actually), and if we can cut down on them, success will follow.

Heh...I will reserve my comments this time. No need to spark another debate (I've done that enough in my first few weeks here )

I remember 1993 vividly as well. I was only 12 at the time, but I remember it a lot better than I do most other things from that time of my life. I became a Sox fan when they signed Bo Jackson (1991, I think it was), and I started to get acquainted with the team (Frank quickly became my favorite player). Since I live in CA, the Sox were never on, and I didn't know anything about WGN, and even if I had, I didn't even know we got it on our cable system. Then, one day in August (I think), I was flipping through the channels, and I came across the Sox playing the Orioles, and the Sox had Wilson Alvarez on the mound. That day he threw a no-hitter, and I remember how excited I was. Then, of course I remember when they clinched the AL West on a flyball caught by Darren Jackson (and the call by Hawk..."Darren Jackson.....YYYYYEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!! Your 1993 American League champions, Chicago White Sox", and the celebration was awesome. And then in the playoffs, Frank hit a 2-run HR off someone at Skydome, but that series pretty much just sucked. 10 years later, let's hope we have similar success in the regular season, but a much different post-season.

I thought of something... Sox fans should STUFF the All-Star voting ballots this season and try to get 4 or 5 Sox players in the starting lineup. I live out west, and won't be going to any games at US Cellular, but if everyone that goes to games would vote everytime they go (maybe more than once each time ), I think we could make some noise. I mean, look at it actually... We've got a shot at legitmately getting the starting pitcher (Buehrle or Colon), the DH (Frank), the first baseman (Konerko), and the right fielder (Magglio), and possibly 2 bullpen spots (Koch and Marte). That's 4 or 5 guys that could actually earn a spot. If we stuff the ballots for guys like Valentin, Lee, and Crede (assuming they're having good seasons and other people vote for them too), it's possible to get them in the game as well. I think that would be awesome.

Not only that, they are ugly and make people assume the worst about you. Forget about getting a corporate job if you have a tattoo that is visible in short sleeves. And if you're a chick and you have tattoos, I think we all know what that means. :puke

Well... Keep in mind guys, Aaron's played 3 years, but he's had under 500 career AB's. That's barely a full year's worth. As I said a few posts ago, the key to this team, and IMO guys like Rowand in particular, is going to be consistant playing time. Young players need to play regularly in order to get into a rhythm, and that's when you can get a clear picture of what he is capable of. Rowand needs 400-500 AB's this season in order for this Sox team to perform up to their capabilites, and I believe he will hit .280 (or higher) if he gets to that mark. He's a career .268 hitter, so I figure he'll go up with regular playing time. I could be wrong...but I doubt it. And besides, Aaron's just one of several Sox players that are on the hot seat. I think many are looking for Bartolo to be the guy that is going to put us over the hump, so he'll be under a lot of scrutiny. Carlos Lee is always rumored to be on his way out in a trade, so this is his chance to show the Sox that he deserves a spot on this team. Frank Thomas is again facing a whole hoard of doubters that you KNOW he wants to shut up (like he did in 2000). Jon Garland and Danny Wright are being looked at as very good young pitchers that need to improve and move towards realizing their potential. D'Angelo Jimenez is going to be playing his first full season, and he's trying to fill the shoes of a pretty darned good lead-off hitter (Durham). So, basically, you can see that Rowand is just one of many players with something to prove in '03.

We got Armando Rios to be a back-up -- not a starter. And you're right, Harris does not belong in CF. He belongs either on our bench as a back-up 2b or EMERGENCY CF'er, or down in AAA. And there would be no reason to put Miles in CF. If he's on this team, he needs to be in the IF. Harris and Miles in the infield, Rios on the bench. We need consistency to be successful this season, not people moving around all the time. That is not the way to win.

Thats amazing. Stewart is what 24?hes really broken out over the last year.... Well, while Josh is having a very impressing (and quite frankly, surprising IMO) Spring, let's not start saying he's "broken out". The key word in my previous sentence was "Spring". Let's give him some starts when it counts and see how he deals with it. I predict that even if Josh doesn't start the season in the rotation, he'll be in it by the end of the season (because quite frankly, I can't see Loaiza being as effective as he has been for the full season). Plus, having him in the rotation would give us better balance (3 righties and 2 lefties as opposed to the 4/1 that it is now). This season could be great guys.

Yeah, that's exactly what it told me too. Has it ever done that to you before? Today was the first time for me.
-
Heh, thanks for that. For some reason, the feed wasn't working for me today. Hopefully it's just a temporary problem. Anyway, very nice win for the Sox. They did leave a lot of guys on base (I think 11 or 12) and made 2 errors, but anytime you can shut out the champs, you have to be happy about that. 14-8-1 is the Sox record now. That's pretty darned good after a rough start.
-
Wow...well, you'd have to assume he pitched at least 4 (but likely 5 or 6) scoreless innings. That would put his ERA into the 2's. Very impressed with the Sox starters thus far.
-
Well...Loaiza pitched about 3 games ago, Garland pitched about 2 games ago, and Buehrle pitched yesterday, so it wasn't them. I suppose it could have been Colon, or possibly Josh Stewart. I'll try to find out and let you know ASAP.

Yes, Yahoo. The thing I don't understand is how can they have a score for a game that is not even being played? Are they just making up numbers?
-
Top 7, Sox up 5-0. If I'm not mistaking, the Sox are looking for their first shut out of the Spring.
-
Heh. I don't know enough about the guy to be fully on his bandwagon. Based on what I've seen thus far in ST, he's a guy that will definitely be in the bigs by the end of the season. Like I said before, if Jimenez gets injured or if Harris struggles, expect to see Aaron sooner as opposed to later. The thing that bothers me about his is what someone said a while back about his walks per AB last season. Something like 40 walks in 500 AB's? I haven't checked out the accuracy of that, but if it's true, that's something he has to improve greatly upon before he can be considered as a full-time member of this Sox team. That, of course, is IMO.

The game is on the radio here in So Cal (they're playing the Angels, btw), and the Sox are up 5-0 in the 6th inning.
-
Heh, there seems to be some confusion as to who the Sox are playing, because I've seen several sites saying that the Sox are playing Seattle today, and Anaheim is playing Oakland. The Sox official page says they're playing the Angels, so that's what I'll go with. I've seen scores for both games, though, LOL. Maybe it's a split-squad situation...but I don't think there are enough players left to make 2 teams. I dunno. Sox 4 Angels 0 top 4 Sox 4 Mariners 4 top 6
-
Some people probably care about the game...and I guess the Sox are up 4-0 in the 2nd inning. Don't know any more than that.
-
Yeah...it would be kind of hard to get too enthused about an exhibition game with all that's going on anyway. Maybe it's for the better that Real is f'ing up.
-
Hey guys... With all that's going on with the war, I'm not sure how many people care about today's game against the Angels. But, I wanted to let those who do know that I'm unable to do play-by-play (hold back your tears, please) because I'm getting the following error message... "MLB Plug-in Requirements - We have detected that you do not have RealOne installed on your system. Click here to upgrade or install RealOne" Even though that's BS, I tried to download it again, and I got the message "You already have the latest version of Real". So, I don't know what's going on.

I agree about Paul. I don't think anyone will pick him up, and quite honestly, based on what he's shown us over the past couple of seasons, it wouldn't be a big loss.
-
Sure, a pulled hamstring certainly is an injury that could change who is on the 25-man roster. However, the only way, IMO, that Miles will make the team is of Harris starts the season off on the DL, and I don't think his injury is quite that severe. But, we'll find out soon.
-
The only real questions that remain as far as the 25-man roster goes are.... 1) Back-up catcher? I'd go with Miguel and take our chances on losing Josh. If he gets picked up, oh well IMO 2) 5th starter? This isn't really a question - it's just a matter of Danny getting ready. By all accounts, he's still scheduled to be in the rotation. 3) White or Ginter? Tough one. I can't make a call, since I haven't seen much of White. Miles is not going to make the team. He may deserve to, but he's not going to (unless someone gets injured in the next couple of days). IMO, our 25 men will be... Buehrle, Colon, Garland, Loaiza, Wright, Glover, Ginter (by default since I haven't seen White), Gordon, Marte, Wunsch, Koch as our pitchers. That's 11. Alomar Jr, Olivo, Konerko, Thomas, Jimenez, Harris, Valentin, Graffanino, Crede, Lee, Rowand, Ordonez, Rios, Daubach as our position players. That's a total of 25.
