  1. Bottom 1, no score They're saying that if Heredia makes the squad, it would likely be in the long-relief capacity. Although, I would think the health of Danny Wright has a HUGE impact on what will happen with Gil. - McCracken leads off with a walk (ugh) - Some scrub (Terrera?) hits it out to CF for a 2-run HR. 2-0 bad guys - Junior Spivey flies out to Borchard. 1 down - Danny Bautista too flies out to Joe Joe. 2 away - Whoever it was just popped out to Miles to end the inning. Lead-off walk scores (shocking)...2-0 Snakes
  2. It's a great day for a ball game...let's play 2! But to play 2, you have to play 1 first... First game @ Arizona... Top 1 - Miles on somehow (I tuned in late ) - Valentin deep flyout to LF, Miles back to 1st - Thomas hits high fly to LF, 2 down, Miles again back to 1st - Magglio hits high fly to deep RF, 3 down. Bad guys coming up.
  3. I couldn't have said it better myself.
  4. CF is one of a few slots that the White Sox are weak at. I'll take their strengths in RF, DH, 1B, our starting rotation, and our bullpen if it means having an unproven youngster in CF and at a couple other positions.
  5. Maybe the system isn't as f***ed up as we think... --------------------- Supreme Court Stops 300th Texas Execution Published March 12, 2003, 6:00 PM CST WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday stopped Texas from executing its 300th inmate since capital punishment resumed in the United States in 1977, granting a dramatic last-minute stay to condemned killer Delma Banks. Banks' claims that he was wrongly convicted of a murder 23 years ago were backed by three former federal judges. His lawyers told justices that he was poorly represented at trial, that prosecutors improperly kept blacks off the jury, and that testimony from two prosecution witnesses was shaky. Banks is black, his victim was white and the jury was all-white. The court issued the stay, without comment, about 10 minutes before the 44-year-old was to be put to death for the 1980 murder of 16-year-old Richard Wayne Whitehead, a co-worker at a restaurant. Banks shot Whitehead "for the hell of it" after a night of drinking, according to testimony Banks gave at his trial. Banks has been on death row 22 years, longer than Whitehead was alive. One of the three former federal judges supporting the Supreme Court intervention was former FBI Director William Sessions, who submitted a brief to the high court in which he cited "uncured constitutional errors" in Banks' case. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals this week refused to block Banks' execution, and the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles would not hear his plea because it was filed too late. The majority of last-minute death row appeals are rejected by the Supreme Court, although justices have stopped a handful of executions in the past few years. Last year, the justices blocked executions in Florida, Tennessee and Texas. The Texas inmate who received a stay, Thomas Miller-El, won his Supreme Court appeal last month. The court ruled that Miller-El, who is black, deserved a new chance to press his claim that prosecutors stacked his jury with whites and death penalty supporters. The stay in Banks case will remain in effect until the court decides whether to review his case. No justices noted objections to the reprieve. Prosecutors and the victim's family have insisted Banks received a fair trial. "All these articles about poor Delma, poor Delma and how much of a raw deal he got," said Larry Whitehead, the victim's father, "stopping a youngster's life at 16 years old is a raw deal." Sessions and others had told the court in a filing that the claims raised in the appeal "go to the very heart of the effective functioning of the capital punishment system." Texas accounts for more than one-third of the 835 executions in the United States since the U.S. Supreme Court in 1976 allowed capital punishment to resume. Virginia has the second-highest total, with 87. On Tuesday, murderer Bobby Glen Cook became No. 299 since Texas resumed capital punishment in 1982. It was the 10th execution this year in Texas, which is on a pace to top the record 40 lethal injections carried out in 2000. ---------------------- A stay of execution...his lucky day.
  6. LMAO...Felix Fermin? It was him and Reggie Jefferson for Omar. Great trade, M's.
  7. You made the same mistake I always make. In 2000, Frank hit 43 HR with 143 RBI, but did not hit .343 -- he hit .328. The 43's are contageous.
  8. Yeah, I'm not saying that concearining his W-L coulmn, I am just saying he won't have as much to back him up as he did in Texas. Good point. An ERA in the high 3's won't win as many games in Minnesota as it will in Texas. Good point. Hopefully we'll help his ERA return to 2001 form when we face him.
  9. Yes, that does make sense (I don't like it though ). And at this point, it's probably more important for Frank to work in the cage than it is facing some scrubby AA or AAA pitcher. He's been in the league 12 years, so I suppose he doesn't need a full ST schedule to get ready for the season.

True...but, look at it this way. Spring Training is already a month long. Are a few extra innings really going to help? Plus, you don't want to exhaust your pitchers this early in the going because they can't exactly go out the next day and pitch like they do regularly during the season.
  11. Well, I don't want to defend Rogers or any member of the Twins, but... If you look at last year's Sox stats, Danny Wright had an ERA over a half run more than Jon Garland, and yet Wright won more games. Basically, what I'm saying is that when looking at how successful a pitcher was in a given year, wins/losses can be very misleading. The more telling number is ERA, and anything under 4 in the AL isn't bad -- especially for a guy that's going to be a 4th or 5th starter.
  12. That's what I've been sayin' -- he's not playing very much at all. Hopefully after they cut a few more players they'll play him everyday.
  13. Cool. Sounds good to me.

    Wow

The 15 year old girl Elizabeth Smart that disappeared 9 months ago has been found alive and well. That's amazingly good news. Something that's rare in today's world.
  15. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...baseball%2Dnews Some highlights...1-year, $2M (surprising), with $500,000 additional available in incentives (not specified).
  16. Yeah, I'm a newbie too, so I'm not really sure what to expect when the games start to count. But, I'll still do the updates as long as I can and as long as they are wanted.

Yeah...as long as I can hear what the announcers are saying and as long as they don't sound like R2-D2 after being doused with a bucket of Gatorade, I'll be fine.
  18. More formal? I like it just the way it is Yeah? Fine with me. The only thing is..aren't most regular season games shown on either WGN (I live in CA, so I know they're pretty much only on once a week :puke), or FoxSports Net? With ST, the games aren't on TV, so it comes in handy...but in the reg season, it may not mean as much. And OK, I lied...I don't have a life. <-- me looking out my window at the world around me
  19. Yeah, I've never understood that either. Maybe the terms aren't set in stone yet?
  20. You're welcome. And yeah, it would be cool to do my "broadcasts" in a more formal setting. I wouldn't be able to do it every game (I actually do have a life and a job, believe it or not), so I dunno if it would be worthwhile. It sure is fun to do though. Keeps me more involved in the game and helps me remember what happened a helluva lot better.

Searching for a link that will most likely only give you the score, and if you're lucky tell you who did well in the game while I slaved for 3 hours doing a hitter-by-hitter recap of what happened as it happened? I'm hurt. And yes, the Sox were down 4-1 and 6-4, and managed to come back and earn a tie in 11 innings.
  22. Heh..yeah, I think it's Burke.
  23. Yes, they've managed to wiggle out of some tough situations. It's of some concern that they're walking the lead-off guy so much, though. You can't wiggle out for too long. Luckily, it's only ST, so hopefully they'll get it all out of their system by the time March 31 rolls around.
  24. Was that a pickoff? Not sure...it happened before the pitch, I think, so yeah...but I'm not sure.
