Saying he's half the reason they sucked last year might be a bit of a stretch... But, what he's saying is that as long as Sammy goes yard, that's all they care about. Winning is secondary -- and that is unacceptable.
-
I read somewhere that he may pitch as early as March 17. That's this coming Monday. And during yesterday's "broadcast", they mentioned that he'll probably pitch Monday (the 17th) or Tuesday (18th).
-
LOL...truer words have never been spoken.

My favorite brawl that I've seen in my lifetime (I'm 22) was the brawl a few years back between the O's and Yankees. It started and stopped like 3 times, and ended up spilling into the dugout. I'd say it lasted for a good 10 minutes -- that's longer than most heavyweight fights nowadays.

Your continued use of the name "Royce" in reference to D'Angelo is quite immature and idiotic. I would hope you're more mature than that. And I wonder how you'll feel about D'Angelo if he scores 130 runs and helps lead this Sox team to a World Series ring. Would you admit you were wrong, or would you stubbornly say "Aaron is better"?
-
Hook me up with some minor league numbers of Aaron's. It will help me better understand all the hype. Also, I saw someone mention that he only had 40 walks in 500 at-bats last year. Is that true? If so, will you admit that he should not lead off any team if those numbers continue?
-
I'm speaking of actions too -- the action of getting on base. D'Angelo showed us a glimpse of what he's capable of late last season, and so far this spring it has continued. Numbers are overrated -- but sometimes you can't argue with them. And the reason I say I'm "rational" in this "debate" is because I'm saying to go with the guy who has proved himself in a short time in the majors (and particularly, with the Sox) over the younger, lesser experienced player. Elementary, my dear Watson.

Yes, "Michelle". She may be a friend of yours, and that's fine. But until she's a friend of mine, she will remain either hotsoxchick, maybe HSC, or "Michelle" -- no disrespect. Back to the matter at hand... I'm not claiming to be the knower of all that is to be known. All I can go by is what I've read about it so far. If some of you have information that is contrary to what is being reported, I think you have somewhat of an obligation to let us fellow Sox fans know about it before we start jumping the gun on things. I really like Mark and I would love to see him in a Sox uniform for many years to come. I also really love the Sox and I like to think that I can trust them. If I can't, though, I would like to know about it. So, what do any of you know that is not being reported? Speak now or forever hold your peace.
-
Thank you. Good to see I'm not the only rational person in this "debate".
-
So...what are you saying? Are you saying the Sox are liars? Are you saying Mark is greedy? Are you saying you agree with me? Are you saying you agree with "Michelle"? Or are you saying you're going to wait until you hear more? I'm a bit confused by your post.
-
I will refer to my previous statement -- D'Angelo is our second baseman and our leadoff hitter -- get used to it, at least until Miles (or someone else) takes those roles away from him. And I'll tell ya, as long as Jimenez has an OBP of over .400, he ain't goin' anywhere. Especially when the guy trying to get the job from him has never played in the majors and had 40 walks in 500 AB's in the minor leagues. Again, UNACCEPTABLE numbers.

If they only wanted us to know about it being 5 years, $27M, no mention of the $7M option (that would kick in if he pitched 200 innings in 2005) or the $10M club option for 2007 would be there. And I'm not judging harshly against Mark. I'm just saying it's not signed because of him -- not because it was an unfair deal. To be honest, I hope the Sox DID try to shaft him. If he turns down a good offer, that's a sign that he wants to leave ASAP. If he turns down a bad one, that just shows that the club needs to get their head out of their ass and "show him the money". So, what did you hear from your "very reliable source"?
-
Based on what? Show it to us so we'll know what we're talking about. You seem to have all the facts. They say the proof is in the puddin', but where's the puddin'? Show me puddin'.
-
Well...OK, let's see it...what have you heard? I don't want to continue to comment on it if I have read untrue things. But until I see a contract contrary to the one I read at the Sox official site, I stand by my claim that it's Mark's fault it wasn't signed. And if it's a "Frank Thomas type contract", that just means it's complicated -- not unfair.
-
I haven't reached the point of not reading your posts - but that could happen at some point if this sadness continues. And what did I say about the contract that wasn't true? The following is cut and pasted from the Sox official website... "Buehrle seemingly walked away from a great deal more. Along with a final $11.5 million offer, Buehrle had the chance for two option years that would have raised the contract's total to $27 million over five years when factoring in buyouts, according to a club spokesman, responding to a report on ESPN Radio. The first option year in 2006 would have been triggered by Buehrle pitching 200 innings in 2005, which would have added $7 million to the contract. The White Sox then had a final year option with Buehrle for $10 million." So, either you're saying the Sox page is lying (it appears you are), or you simply don't understand the contract (likely). 200 IP is an "unfair and outlandish ideal"? What other stipulations are there in the contract if you know so much about it? And you're right, you CAN have it both ways. Provided you're willing to be labeled a hypocrite by myself and anyone else who isn't kissing your ass.
-
Don't let your bias interfere with reality. D'Angelo doesn't suck (.400+ OBP sucks?), and your claim of him being an asshole is completely unfounded. You'd better get used to him -- he's our 2nd baseman, and will be until he loses the job. Maybe your bias for Miles has corrupted your mind so much that you're hoping D'Angelo plays poorly so Aaron can step into the role. If that is the case, I feel sorry for you.
-
True, he's had a bad past few days. However, he'll go to AAA, and if he does well, we very possibly could see him later in the year in a big-time game (if Kelly or Damaso struggle) -- so don't get too down on him, because we may need him at some point this season. Just a thought.
-
They say the best way to predict future behavior is to look at past behavior. And, if you merely look at the stats of the 4 players mentioned in this mock trade, you'd say "do it" from the Sox' perspective. However, I agree with whitesox247. I have a feeling that Lee is going to be something special, and we already know that MB is something special who is only going to get better with experience. Pujols and Morris are good, but I'll take Lee and Mark over them.
-
Actually, Damaso pitched this past Saturday in the Cub game.
-
Contradictions, galore. Madam, this is what you said in the post before (less the annoying ......'s and with correction punctuation and proper grammar)... "See once again you guys are jumping before hearing both sides of the story. Don't judge till you know ALL the facts." Then, you turn around and say "this one is on JR". Make up your mind - either reserve your judgement until you hear more about it, or come out and comment now -- but you can't have it both ways. Based on what I've heard about the deal that was rejected, Mark would have had $10M over 3 years guaranteed, and if he pitched 200+ innings in 2005, he would get $7M in 2006, and the Sox would have a $10M option for 2007. He's thrown 200+ innings in each of the past 2 years, so there's no reason to think he wouldn't do it again. That makes the deal 4 years for $17M -- over $4M per season. That is VERY fair. Based on that, it's on Mark and his agent -- NOT JR.

No problem. Doing updates is actually kinda fun. And yeah, everyone except Porzio seemed to do good (Sanders struggled a tad, though). But the important guys did very well.
-
Marte in to close it out... - Strikeout - Strikeout (breaking ball away after a high hard one ) - Line drive basehit to CF - Flyball caught, game over Sox win 7-4. Buehrle gets the win, Marte the save
-
- Rios lines a basehit to CF (2nd hit of the day ) - Valenzuela chopper to 3rd, throw scooped at 1st, out, Rios to 2nd - Nunez grounds out, Rios to 3rd, 2 out - Sanders HBP, runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs Announcers are wondering if someone on the Rockies will be hit by a pitch in the 9th, hehehehe. - Crede ball off pitchers' glove, throw to 1st gets him Going to the bottom of the 9th, Sox up 7-4 Marte might be coming in (he was warming up with Diaz earlier)
-
Bottom 8, Porzio in. - Walks the lead-off guy They're talking about how Porzio's on the bubble. They seem to think he is in trouble (and I agree, he is). - Triple to left (:angry), run scores, 7-3 Sox - 1 hopper to Rios in left, run scores, 7-4 Sox (WTF is going on with Porzio?) - Popout in the shallow OF, 1 out, runner on 1st Felix Diaz warming up in the pen along with Damaso - Strikeout, 2 outs - Basehit, runner goes to 3rd, runner advances to 2nd on throw (ugh) Porzio replaced with Diaz 2/3 IP, 3 hits, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 SO, responsible for runners on 2nd & 3rd -- another poor outing for Mike - Flyout, runners stranded End 8, 7-4 Sox
-
- Crede lead-off double to start the 8th (2nd hit of the day for him ) - Morales (one of our young catchers) lined out, Crede safely back to 2nd - Graffanino strikes out, 2 out, Crede still standing at 2nd - Konerko HBP (and he's upset), 1st and 2nd with 2 out - Miles groundout to 1st (0-2 on the day), 3 outs, 2 stranded They're talking about how Frank talked before the game about his approach to hitting and how he's going to focus on hitting the ball to center field. Through 7 1/2, 7-2 Sox
