  1. David Sanders in... - Serves up a lead-off HR, 7-1 Sox - Basehit FYI, Crede is the only starter still in the game - Flyout, 1 out, 1 on - Wild pitch, runner to 2nd - Strikeout, 2 outs, runner on 2nd - Looper to left falls in, runner scores, 7-2 Sox, runner on 1st - Double, runners on 2nd and 3rd - Groundout, runners stranded End 7, 7-2 good guys
  2. Top 7, Sox up 4-0 - Olivo K (ugh) - Harris 2B off right field wall - Konerko 2-run HR to Center (yyyyyeeeeeeeeessssssssss!!), 6-0 good guys - Miles (in for D'Angelo) groundout to 1st on a 3-1 count - Rios (in for Valentin) double down the left field line (I think) - Valenzuela grounds to 3rd, throw to 1st is low, gets away, Rios scores, 7-0 - Someone singled, 1st and 3rd with 2 out - Sanders hitting ... something happened (was busy)... inning over 7-0 Sox
  3. White in for the 6th - Popup - Popup - K 1-2-3, end 6, 4-zip Sox So far, so good -- the Rockies have a decent offense, too.
  4. Orosco's presence in the league is due to the lack of quality bullpen lefties. He's still decent, but there's no way he should be on a major league squad IMO.
  5. - Konerko PH single, runner on 1st - Jimenez BB, runners on 1st and 2nd - Valentin RBI 2B (2-0 Sox), run in, runners on 2nd and 3rd - Thomas line out to 3rd, still runners on 2nd and 3rd - Mags looper to right, 2 score (4-0 Sox), Mags on 1st - Lee strikeout - Crede groundout to 3rd Through 5 1/2, Sox up 4-0
  6. 5 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 1K for Mark. Nice. Still 1-0 (Frank's 1st HR). On a side note, tomorrow we'll have Bartolo on the mound.
  7. Another fine outing by Mark. 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB Maybe he'll come out for the 5th -- I don't think he's thrown that many pitches. 1-0 Sox, Frank's 1st HR of the Spring accounting for the only run. We've basically got our starting team out there today... Lee, Harris, Mags, Crede, Valentin, D'Angelo, Frank, Olivo (I think)
  8. f*** these announcers. I don't care if they're Chicago announcers or not. They just said something extremely unacceptable. They were ragging on the fact that Frank is 2-14 this Spring. They go "He's gonna have to do better than 2 for 14 if he's gonna make this squad. He'll make it anyway, but he just won't play much." They, of course, didn't mention the fact that he's hardly playing. Just then, he cracked a HR to left. :fyou Frank doubters
  9. My friend and I were talking about this the other night. He made a great point -- having the pitchers hit takes at-bats away from guys trying to make the team. If you use the DH all the time in ST, you allow fringe players a few extra shots and showing the team what they're capable of. Also, having the pitchers hit subjects them to injury (especially AL pitchers that really aren't used to hitting, even with inter-league play). I say let the pitchers work on their hitting on their off-days -- and save the at bats in games to the hitters. Thoughts?
  10. I fear not. A .417 OBP is perfect for this team. If he can do that in the regular season, 2003 will be a high-scoring affair. Let Miles pay his dues -- Jimenez has come back from a near-death accident, so IMO he deserves a chance at the major league level. If he fails, so be it. But if we don't give him a chance, how will we ever know what he's capable of? Also, after hearing that Miles had 40 walks in 500 AB's, there is NO WAY he should be our lead-off hitter. That is simply an unacceptable statistic.
  11. Thank god. It sounds like these announcers know what they're doing. And Frank's playing. BTW, coming into today's game, D'Angelo is 6-20 this spring with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. That's pretty decent. 10 times on base in 24 opportunities -- not too shabby.

I read this at chisox.com... ***But with the addition of Bartolo Colon and the development of other young hurlers such as Jon Garland, Buehrle helps make up one of the stronger starting rotations in all of baseball. Of course, this long-term contract issue could be re-visited again next spring. "We are always willing to listen," Hahn added. "But after trying three different structures, I'm not sure if we would be any more optimistic one year from now.*** That doesn't sound good. For those who don't know, Hahn is the assistant GM.
  13. I'll answer my own question...it's going to be Mark.
  14. Is it going to be Danny? I think it's been about 4 days since they said they were going to give him a few days off, so it could be him. But more than likely it'll be Mark or Bartolo. Anyone know?
  15. 5 IP for Kelly and 8 strikeouts? That's excellent. Nice ERA too.

True. If this Sox team can live up to its potential and possibly win a World Champioinship or 2 in over the next few years, then we'll have lots of revenue coming in and we'll be able to spend the big bucks on free-agents and/or retaining our own players. If this Sox team continues to disappoint (like it did in 2001 and especially 2002), we could be in for some bleak years in Chicago -- because the money will not be there when it comes time to keep this team in tact.

Regardless of whose "fault" it is this time, it's becoming more and more likely that Mark will bolt ASAP. That is not good news for the Sox organization.

    I'm hearing they offered Mark a 5-year, $27M contract. If that's not long-term, I don't know what is. I blame Buehrle.
  19. You've come to this conclusion after 3 weeks of Spring Training? Heh. Let's wait at least 1 full season before we make an analysis of who got the better of the Foulke for Koch trade.
  20. They're not going to have their best pitcher (Trevor) either. I don't see them doing anything -- possibly 95 losses. I don't think there is a true team to beat in 2003. You could say the Yankees -- but that's based on their payroll and the fact that they are usually in the running for the WS. '03 could be the most wide-open season in a long while.
  21. Heh...still disagree. I think the Mets are going to make the playoffs. They definitely have the talent -- they just need to play like they're capable of.
  22. The Mets LAST in the NL East? Please.
  23. I agree that we could use a left-handed presence like the great Ken Griffey Jr. However, I think the Sox could definitely spend that money (he makes around $15M a year I believe) more wisely. I'd rather see us spend $15M on pitching (either to sign Colon/Buehrle to long-term deals) -- this team should have enough offense.
  24. Any Cub fan who would say ANYTHING about beating the Sox minus their 3 best hitters is a complete and utter moron who knows nothing about baseball.
  25. Porzio's got an uphill battle to make the team to begin with. We're either going to have 6 or 7 relievers, and his problem is that he's not a power guy and he's not considered the "left-handed specialist" that Wunsch is. His only hope would be to be our long-reliever/spot starter, but I think Gary Glover is the leading candidate for that role. Porzio needs the other lefties like Wunsch and the youngies to struggle in order to make the squad, and so far it's not happening.
