I live in Glendale, which is more or less Los Angeles (kind of a suburb I suppose). I'm about 4 hrs from Vegas. So you're gonna move to Sin City? Nice. You gonna actually live in Vegas, or are you going to live in Henderson?

so how did a showtime gay like you end up being a sox fan? I was a huge Bo Jackson fan in the 80's, and when the Royals gave up on him and sold him to the Sox, they became my favorite team by default. I didn't know any of the Sox players at that time, but I grew to know and love them, and continued to follow them even after Bo departed. Frank became my favorite player after Bo retired, and it remains that way. So, I've been a big Sox fan for going on 10 years now.

By what I've heard on here, it's standard procedure for the manager of the home field team to be chosen to be on the coaching staff. It almost certainly has nothing to do with his managerial abilities -- just a sign of respect more than anything.

LOL. The only team local to me that I like are the Lakers (bring on the boos and hisses). But again, I'm not a bandwagon fan there, either. I've been a fan of theirs ever since the Showtime Era (brought upon by my mom, but I chose to stick with them when I was old enough to decide for myself, even though they SUCKED ASS in the early-mid 90's).

Dude... This is a message board that usually requires SOME sort of analysis. Something with some depth. So we're 4 freakin games back. Are you saying that's good? Bad? Good considering how poorly we've played? I'm beggin ya for something more than a 1 sentence post. Don't get me wrong, I'm probably not the most articulate guy here, but when I make a statement like "let's talk about the season", I don't post 1 sentence and wait for others to pick up my slack.

whoa.... your getting deep Yes, it's complex math and in-depth statistical evaluation. i guess... but you lost me with the tampa variable LOL, had a few this weekend? Anyway, that guy said that I'm gay and that I'm from Tampa Bay. Neither of those statements is true. He assumed that because my current avatar (which I change on a pretty regular basis) is of the Buccaneers' logo that I'm from there -- when in fact I was simply showing support for my favorite team of 10 years (I'm not a loser bandwagon fan). Afterall, their logo is awesome. Clear everything up? wait.... your a sox fan and not a bears fan... is that possible When you're not a homer, anything is possible.

no you need not... however i was not aware that home field and history were a factor in all-star voting.... off the record, i would like to see frank play in this game... on the record, he is not having an all-star caliber year Who in your mind deserves to be named ahead of him that is not currently on one of the rosters? Do you think Carl Everett deserved a spot? And why, of course.... i have not seen who is on the all-star AL team yet.... but to me, and i will point out that i am a homer, frank does not have all-star creds this year Without seeing who has already made the team, I can't see how you can say Frank shouldn't be there. Out of all the remaining possibilities, Frank is having the best season IMO. Hell, he's having a better season that Carl Everett is, and he's on the team. Carl Everett = .270 avg, 18 HR, 51 RBI, .353 OBP, .532 SLG, 33 BB, 50 SO, .885 OPS Frank Thomas = .287, 20 HR, 47 RBI, .429 OBP, .588 SLG, 61 BB, 59 SO, 1.017 OPS Nuff said.

If he was going to be fired during the season, it would have happened a month or so ago when we were playing horrid baseball. Now that we're actually showing some life and have made the recent acquisitions, I doubt they fire JM unless something unexpected happens (like us losing 20 in a row or something).

However, this is not a perfect world.

He's near the top in several offensive categories. The game is being played in his home park. He's one of the guys who sparked our streak of good play. He's perhaps the best player in the history of our franchise. Need I go on?

If you come out to CA, stop by West Hollywood. I'm sure there are a few people there who can show you how to "move up to a ball".
-
Nah, not worth it.... I know I am right, that is all that matters. Party pooper.

LMAO. Everyone who's been here for any length of time knows where I am from, and it is not Tampa Bay. You CAN be a fan of a team and not live in that city, my friend. And it's pointless that 1 person can vote 1,000,000 times for Player A, yet if 1,000,000 people vote once each for Player B, it's a tie. That is absurd, and if you do not see that, YOU are absurd.

LMFAO!!! Here we go again. *pours more Stoli and sits back for the show*

Frank on deck.

Uh, dude, go outside and get some fresh air. Oops, I mean, go Sox!

Is anyone really believing that the Marlins don't intend to trade Lowell? Saying "he's not being moved" is just strategy to drive the price up. When you tell someone they can't have something, they want it even more, and in baseball terms, would be willing to overpay to get him. That's why I hope the Sox don't even try to get him -- it would simply cost too much.

It's refreshing to hear a player that WANTS to be on the team instead of the usual guys coming up with mysterious injuries to get out of the game. That's just disgraceful IMO.
-
Well, if you want to get downright technical, virtually all of us are racist in some manner (even if it's something as simple as prefering 1 race over another). It's just human nature -- we want to be surrounded by those that are similar to us. It's the few braindead idiots that choose to verbalize that to the world that take the abuse for being racists. Sure, there are those that are in hate groups such as the KKK, and they are obviously not included in my "it's just human nature" group. They're the extreme examples.

LOL, around 10. The whole thing is stupid -- what's keeping fans of the other teams/players from doing the same thing? It's pretty pointless really.

That is almost as ridiculous as the original statement we were arguing about. MB has won 19 and barely missed getting his 20th. Don't try to tell me that because he missed winning that last game that he cannot be considered great. I was all ready to give you your due until you backed up your opinion with that? If you guys are going to share your opinion, either state it and leave it the hell alone, or back it up with something that has merit. See the big picture sometimes. See past the numbers. It won't hurt you, I promise. I am not going to get into another one with you cluj, or continue this with Bmr. I don't have a problem at all with you thinking Mark B is not a great pitcher. That is an opinion and you are certainly entitled to it. The word "great" can mean different things to different people, so I have no problem with varying opinions. Bmr, I apologize for calling you stupid. I should have stuck to calling your point stupid. LOL Kind of like saying to an umpire "that call sucked" rather than saying "you suck". Lastly, Phil Niekro may not have been the most dominating pitcher of his time but the man is a Hall of Famer. Perhaps your definition of great is different than mine, but in my mind if a guy is good enough to get to The Hall, I am going to call him great without thinking twice. Winning 20 1 time means nothing. Well, it doesn't mean NOTHING, but it doesn't mean much. There've been more than a handful of pitchers who have won 20, and they certainly were not great pitchers (see Jose Lima). Perhaps I wasn't clear enough -- but a pitcher has to win 20 on a somewhat regular basis in order to be considered great. Obviously, there are other things that a pitcher can do to be considered great (like, if a pitcher pitches for the Devil Rays his whole career and had an ERA of 2.00), but winning 20 is a big component of that.

Sure, I'd like to see the guy make the team since he's my favorite player, and I feel he deserves to be there based on his numbers so far this season. Plus, with the game being at his home park, it would be an added bonus. But, do you guys remember in '00 when he was snubbed? He seemed to have a chip on his shoulder, and (save the playoffs) was a monster for the rest of the year. I think the Sox would be better served if Frank didn't make it and had the 3 days off to stew and get fired up so that he can mash the ball when it matters most -- while wearing a Sox uniform in a game that actually counts. That said, I voted for him about 10 times. This is what I want to see much more of in '03...
