  1. Yesterday loss could mean to our manager and GM that we need another closer. Imagine if what happened yesterday happens in late september in a series agst tthe Royals or Twins??? The idea is to have everything gelling by the time "late in the season" rolls around. And that's another bright spot in this sea of misery -- while losing to TB sucks gonads, I'd rather have what happened yesterday happen @ TB as opposed to @ MIN or @ KC.
  2. In big money situations, Foulke and Koch are pretty much a wash. Koch choked last year in the playoffs, and Foulke choked in the playoffs in '00. In your everyday, run of the mill games, Foulke is more consistent. But to say that the Sox got ripped off in that trade is inaccurate IMO. Yes, it's looking that way at the moment, but hindsight is always 20/20, and at the time, the trade wasn't THAT bad on paper.
  3. Yesterday's loss certainly was not the low point of the season IMO. Yes, it sucked, but for my money, the game he blew vs. KC (the night the ump got hugged by the fan) and getting swept by Minnesota far exceed Friday's loss. They were worse mainly because they are division rivals. In some weird way, Friday's loss could turn out to be good for the Sox. I have no clue as to what their mindset was coming into the game. I also don't know what they were feeling -- in terms of where they are as far as performance as a team. Personally, I'd say they were at about 70% coming into the game. Maybe they were thinking "wow, we've got it all figured out". If they felt that way, they sure as hell don't anymore, and hopefully it will piss them off and make them work even harder than they have been working over the past month. In the long run, Friday could prove to be a valuable lesson. Either way, we're going to learn A LOT about this squad over the next week and a half.
  4. That's Mike Scioscia's mentality of baseball, not yours.
  5. Lots of pitchers lose velocity late in the year. Especially relievers that pitch as many innings as Koch did in '02. Maybe he's hurt, I don't know -- but like most everyone has already stated, we can't keep him as our closer. At least not for a while.
  6. He went from throwing in the high 90's last year to low 90's this year. It's the extra few MPH that is killing him. Who knew that would happen? I certainly don't blame KW for this situation we've found ourselves in.
  7. Nice 2-2 pitch, and Huff whiffs. Great job by Damaso. End 7, we're up 2-1. An insurance run or 2 would be nice.
  8. First pitch rocket by Baldeli, and JM goes to Marte. The inning should have been over, as Colon booted a bunt by Crawford. For some reason (home cookin'), it was ruled a hit. 2 out, runners on 1st and 2nd, Sox clinging to a 2-1 lead.
  9. Ugh, Julio Lugo? 2-1 Sox, 2 out in the 7th.
  10. Yeah, these commercials are a joke. And the one you're talking about with hitting behind the runner, I think that's the one with that woman talking about how she likes to take a first date to a Sox game. If it were me going out with her, it would be our LAST date...she's so friggin' annoying!
  11. Yes, the good teams do win those games. But, the fact that they are involved in so many close games is an indication that while their record is poor, they are not as far away from being competitive as you may think if you just glance at the standings.
  12. Is that Jose Canseco in CF? LOL Anyway, a deep flyout ends the inning. Through 4, Sox lead it 2-0.
  13. LMAO...DJ is being hilarious right now.
  14. Pointless arguments are what this board is all about. Party pooper.
  15. Just some notes on other games going on right now... Boston @ NYY...David Wells had walked just 4 people and allowed 11 HR coming into tonight. Well, tonight, he's walked 2, and has allowed 5 HR. That's amazing. STL @ Cubs...Kerry Wood went just 3 innings and walked 6. 7 ER, and 3 HR. Just 1 strike out. *giggle*
  16. Doh, Alomar CS. But, he gets a big 2 out, bases loaded single to get the Sox on the board. End of 1 and a half, Sox lead it 2-0.
  17. Welcome to town, Mr. Alomar. 2-0 Sox. Let's keep the pressure on this guy. C'mon Jose.
  18. I mean, the chances of predicting someone to hit for the cycle is pretty impossible as it is. But if you're going to get a shot at a million bucks, AT LEAST give yourself a snowball's chance in hell. Pick Roberto...or Jose...or hell, even Magglio.
  19. LOL, in the True Value Hardware contest, some moron picked Brian Daubach to hit for the cycle. ROFL.
  20. Aren't you watching the game? No I'm up in Canada, I only get the WGN games. Oh, OK.
  21. Actually, he makes a good decision, and the umpire is in horrid position and mistakingly calls Alomar out on what should have been a leadoff double.
  22. I smell a love connection in the making.
  23. And conversely, if we lose the division and miss the playoffs, it will be because they're not pounding the ball and pitching poorly. Not because of his creative tinkering. It goes both ways, my friend.
