Ahhhh common sense!! Heh, sorry I wasn't here while this thread was evolving. But reading it in its entirety does have its advantages. The words "great" and "legend" get tossed around so much nowadays that we as fans have really become jaded to their meanings. To me, someone who is "great" is among the best that EVER PLAYED. Hell, whether MB is in the top 10 of pitchers in MLB right now is very questionable to say the least. He may just be in the top 20 if you actually went through and ranked every starting pitcher. But when you expand the pool of pitchers to EVERY PITCHER WHO EVER PLAYED, MB wouldn't even be on the radar screen. He may be with time, but to say that he's "great" in his 3rd full season is just silly. I suppose it's a matter of opinion even with the way "great" is defined, but like Bmr said, opinions such as these cannot be wrong. They're merely opinions.
-
LMAO, this thread ruled! Bmr is right, though. MB is NOT a great pitcher. It's next to impossible for a pitcher with just 2 full seasons under his belt to be great, and while MB has been impressive since jumping from AA to our ace, he's not been great. Merely "good" and at times "very good". Until he wins 20, and/or has an ERA in the 2's, and/or wins a Cy Young, he cannot be regarded as "great".

There's that commercial with the little whore again. I seriously hate it!

8 hits from the lower third of our lineup today.

Then you can forget any talk of the playoffs. We play two decent teams in July (Toronto and KC) and since TB, Detroit, and Cleveland are largely fan free this season, I guess it is to be expected now that the White Sox will save their intensity for series against Seattle, Oakland, Anaheim, and the Yankees in September . We should be 10 games out at least by the end of this month simply because the White Sox need packed houses and city/division rivals to be intense and competitive. OK, then forget about the playoffs. A lack of 100% intensity every night is a reality -- accept it or choose to get pissed by it. And it's 8-0 Sox w/ 1 out in the 3rd.

So we swap minor leaguers, eh? I like Jimenez and think he's got the ability to be a very good ML player. The only thing that'll stop that from happening lives between D'Angelo's ears. That said, I'm happy he's gone and very happy Roberto is here. On a side note...the True Value Hardware $100,000 contest (predicting which Sox player will hit for the cycle)...the person picked Magglio, and he's got a triple and HR in his first 2 AB, and we're only in the 3rd inning.

Nobody vowed to not fail. Every human fails sooner or later. Now, if you want to say that Koch keeps insisting that he'll get the job done while he continues to lose, then you would be correct.
-
cwsox, I agree with you. Koch is such a competitor that any other response from him wouldn't seem right. Koch wants to win and for that, I respect him a lot as a player. That said, it's a team game, and right now, Koch isn't the best option for the Sox. He's going to have to go into the setup role and prove that he can get major league hitters out again. If he does that effectively, he'll have a chance of getting his job back. But in response to the poll question, it would strongly depend on who the Sox had to give up. If we could get him for some mid-level prospects or spare ML parts, I'd be for it. But if we have to give up a top tier guy like Cotts (even though I've never seen him, I'm judging by the rave reviews that he's got a chance to be good), I'd have to respectfully tell Mr. Steinbrenner to go f*** himself.

I think I was the first one to dub winning this series as a "must". I ALSO warned that the Sox MAY come in and play poorly. In a way, it was bound to happen after the emotional high this team was on after mauling the Twins and obtaining Roberto and Carl. It just seems to happen that way in pro sports. Don't know why, it just does. And come October, if we lose the division by a game, you can't look back at July and say "Damn, if Koch hadn't given up that HR to Crawford, we'd be having a 1-game playoff for the division" because it doesn't work that way. EVERY team loses games that they should have won. Either they blow the game, or they simply lose to an inferior team (or, sometimes, both occur on the same night). The time to worry about July games is in July -- not when the season is over. That said, a 13-2 victory today would help.

I'm being serious...was ANYBODY surprised when we couldn't score with the bases loaded and nobody out? It's happened SO many times that I'm numb to it. When the final out was made, I didn't even get mad -- I knew it was going to happen 5 minutes before it did. Anyone who was surprised obviously hasn't watched this Sox team in '03. Not that we're a bad team -- it's just that there are certain situations where they are virtually assured to fail. Men on base with less than 2 outs is one of those situations.

Any whore can get a guy -- it takes a woman with something to offer to KEEP a guy. so what are you tryin to say here clujo???????? I'm trying to say... Any whore can get a guy -- it takes a woman with something to offer to KEEP a guy. Does that clear it up?

Losing to the Devil Rays is NEVER alright. Nobody is saying it is. But, you can't freak out after every loss. It seems like that's the motto around here -- have mulitple orgasms when the Sox win, and load the revolver when they lose. Just chill out.

cwsox asked if you work or go to school because he's trying to explain to you that life has ups and downs. If you had a job or went to school, you would be reminded of that everyday. But if you're a 13 year old drop out who sits home all days and watches MTV, you may not be privy to that information.

Is this theoldroman in disguise? One minute you say "I hope the Sox lose the rest of their games", then the next minute you say "I'll always be a Sox fan at heart" and "I'll still watch the games". Firstly, a fan would NEVER hope their "favorite team" loses. And secondly, even if you did want them to lose, why would you watch? Are you some kind of masochist?
-
I can "jock this team"? WTF are you talking about man? While I thought the Sox had finally turned the corner, losing these last 2 games doesn't shock me at all. It's a pattern that started LONG before the names Roberto Alomar and Carl Everett even became available to be traded for. So while this team was playing very well there for a pretty good stretch, don't kid yourself -- this team has a LONG way to go before we can think about the post season. The pieces are strewn about the table -- they just have to figure out how to put them together in the right fashion.
-
If you're sick of having your hopes dashed everytime you get a glimmer of the promised land, stop getting your hopes up. Seems simple enough to me. And you "hope we lose the rest of our games"? :fyou , you moron. Go for a walk and when the emotions of today's loss subside, come back and read your post again. It's truly retarded. That said, this Sox team has regressed back to where we were 3 weeks ago. I don't understand why we play down to the crappy teams and play great against the good teams.

How's about everyone just shut up about their sexuality and they wouldn't have to worry about the government "interfering" with their lives? Unless 2 guys are butt-f***ing in public, who the hell cares what they do? Just keep it to your damned selves and go about the lifestyle that you have chosen.

I use www.cbs.sportsline.com most of the time. Their site is very simple to navigate, and provides some solid coverage. Then there's always www.espn.com -- they're of course good too.
-
Solid point. I argue the same thing to a buddy of mine all the time. He gets focused on how fast a guy throws a lot (example, John Rocker "has a great fastball"), but I tell him that if it's straight or if you don't have anything else to go with it, you're going to get rocked eventually. Koch actually has a pretty good changeup (or something offspeed, not sure what it is), and like you said, if he can use that effectively, his 90-92 MPH fastball appears much better than it really is.

Quote from JM that I haven't seen anyone else quote... Sox manager Jerry Manuel said Koch's future as the team's closer might be in doubt because of his recent troubles, and Tom Gordon or Damaso Marte could replace him. "You have been on the edge for so long, and now [Koch] finally breaks," Manuel said. "You probably have to try to get better matchups for him—maybe a little earlier in the game." That seems pretty cut and dry to me -- Koch is no longer the closer. Entire article can be read at http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines

In addition... I didn't want to bring this up because it's kind of a downer, and I don't know if anyone else has brought this up, but if the Sox completely fall apart over the next 2-3 weeks, we can STILL trade Alomar and Everett, in addition to guys like Colon, can we not? Making these trades in early July allows us to put this "new" team out there for 15-20 games and see what happens. If we play .600 ball, great, we're right in the thick of things. If we play .300 ball, we can start the bidding. Either way, it gives us some breathing room and allows management to get a better look at the situation.

Heh, go change your tampon. He wasn't even talking to you. Prick.

Well, he already got even with Toronto. Let's see if he can get even with the Rays.
