While a sweep would be nice, we don't exactly have our best pitchers going in the series, and we don't really need a sweep. Just winning the series against the good teams is all we need. The ones that we NEED to sweep are against the bottom-feeders like the Devil Rays and Orioles when we play them. THAT'S that the great teams do -- play .500 or better ball against the upper teams, and play .750+ ball against the s***ty teams. If you do that, you're in the playoffs every year. We need 2 out of 3 vs. Minnesota, and about 7 out of 10 @ TB, DET, CLEV. That would put us at 3 games over .500 at the break, and probably about 2 games out of 1st. Given where we were just a month ago, I'd gladly take that.

Uh, ever heard of will power? Just say no to soxtalk.com.

Know what...Colon had a s***TY day, but he still went out and battled and gave us 5 1/3 innings. They weren't very effective, but he did his job -- gave the Sox a chance to win, and Aaron Rowand and D'Angelo Jimenez, along with the bullpen, made it happen. It was a great win for the Sox, and really said a lot about us -- that we DO have some heart and fight in us. Jesus, lay off the guy.

Dude hawk says everyone the sox bring up is the next coming..........TOTALLY ignore what he says. I have to disagree with you there. Hawk always tries to find SOMETHING good to say about every young player we have, but that's what he's paid to do dude. What's he going to say? "This kid shouldn't be in the majors, what is this team doing?"? He'd be fired if he did that. You can tell when a player has a legit chance and when Hawk is just trying to fill air-time if you listen to enough games.

The sox need to give Miles a try and trade for a CF. OR give Rowand a real shot, and trade for alomar. Jimenez, Harris and singleton are not answers. I REALLY doubt the sox are considering Singleton. They make stupid moves, but they arent THAT stupid. Why can't we get Ichiro or Matsui ** or Cameron? They each make about 7 Mill and are much better than 36yo Alomar since I still think Jimenez's bat will come around, his eye and swing are simply to good to sump like this as long as he stops overswinging. He is cheap too. (**- When Soriano, Jeter, Giambi, Posada and Bernie get on a hot streak--and they will--he will get on an RBI streak and will probably finish with 130-140, he is a money player. The knack on him eaerly on was he couldn't hit two-seamers his first time aorund since they barely throw them in Japan, but he has become noticeably better at it and will only improve...) Cameron would bring some more pop and better defense, but if you look at his average (taking out his usual .800 avg vs. the Sox), he's not that good of a hitter. He's having a pretty decent year so far (.271, 11, 47), but he's on pace to strike out WELL over a hundred times (which is something he has done every full season he's been in the majors, which is 6), and he's a career .251 hitter. I do like his speed (31 steals last year and 34 in 2001), and like I said, his speed defensively would be a help to the limited range our LF and RF'ers have. I don't know how willing Seattle would be to part with him. Who do they have to replace him in CF? I would rather see the Sox give Rowand the job FULL TIME and see what the kid can do. He's never really had the job for himself -- he's always had to fight for it, which is good, but I think if the club showed some confidence in him and let him have the job for a while, he could loosen up and it would really help his game. I'd rather use the player(s) it would take to get Cameron and trade them to some other team for maybe a reliever or a package deal for a quality player like Pierre or Castillo. Cameron is not the answer IMO. A guy like Dave Roberts would be awesome at the top of the Sox lineup, but there's no way the Dodgers would part with him.

If I stick with my Stoli, can I still join the party?
-
Still throwing an inordinate amount of breaking balls, but yes, he looked good today. Got out 3 pretty good hitters in Sosa, Alou, and Karros.
-
I figured someone else had noticed it too, but with the recent success of the Sox, I thought I'd bring it up again.
-
We won the pennant in '83. We won the pennant in '93. And now it's '03.
-
Well, you're right, but of late, the Sox have played very well against some darned good teams. We played well against the Giants (even though we lost 2 of 3), the Dodgers, the Red Sox, the Twins, and of course the Cubs.
-
Magglio almost tripped and fell rounding 3rd. How sickening would that have been? :fyou Cubbies. Also, let's give it up to our BULLPEN today guys. They kept us in this game long enough for our offense to make something happen.
-
Well, this makes up for a lot, but it doesn't erase all of it. He needs to go out everyday and contribute.
-
The emotionless Jerry Manuel with a fist-pump to the crowd, and for the 2nd day in a row the Sox win a game that we would have lost earlier in the year. The winds are shifting, my friends, the winds are shifting.

WE LOVE YOU D'ANGELO!!! LMAO!

They're walking Graffy to get to Jimenez. Here's a chance for him to make up for some of his recent f***ups.
-
I dispise the whole lefty/righty match up thing. It's BS. If you're swinging the bat well left-handed, don't let the other team turn you around. Oh well, hopefully Graffy can come up huge for us.
-
IMO, Cubs/Sox is the best rivalry. Not just because of the hatred involved, because hatred does not a good rivalry make. The reason it's the best is because the games are almost always close and they are exciting as all hell.
-
Cubs are bringing in Remlinger, so that will likely force Jose to bat right handed. He's swinging so well left handed that he should just hit lefty, but he probably won't.
-
What an AB for Lee. About a 10-12 pitch AB, and a flyball to RF. Magglio does a great job of tagging up and is safely into 2B. Jose up with 1 out and Magglio on second.
-
Lead-off walk for Magglio. Lee coming up, and he's hammered the ball all game long.

ATTA BOY BILLY! LET'S END THIS f***ING GAME NOW.

Good lord...Koch is intense. Belt high pitch right down the f***ing plate not called. WTF? Now a 2-2 pitch on the corner not called. Look for JM to get kicked out if Koch ends up walking him. 3-2 pitch fouled off and it tricked Hawk. Grounder to SS, throw low, Graffy picks it for out #1.
-
Oh my lord...Jimenez at 3B? Ugh. This is HUGE for Koch.
