  1. Taking it from the 8th... Marte stayed in for the 8th (after pitching the 7th), and did very well. In all, he pitched 2 hitless innings and struck out 3. Koch came in for the 9th and shut them down. Then, in our half of the 10th, Graffanino singled, and Frank followed with a double down the left field line. The defense had him spread around to go the other way, so TG had enough time to score on the play. Then, in the Snakes' half of the inning, Koch walked a guy with 2 out, but induced a grounder for the final out of the game. Marte and Koch likely won't be available for tonight's game @ LA, so hopefully Mark can give us a good 7 or more innings.
  2. Stupid asshole. huh? He is 100 percent right. If he beat her , and cheats and all that, and shes still with him, shes a dumbass. Oh Lord help you if you have a sister or a really, really close female friend. I am wishing bad, bad things on you right now... If my sister were to get abused by a guy, she wouldn't have to worry about whether or not she should leave him -- because he would be in the ground.
  3. Stupid asshole. huh? He is 100 percent right. If he beat her , and cheats and all that, and shes still with him, shes a dumbass. I'm glad to see there's at least 1 other person on this board with a brain and a pair of balls to go with it.
  4. The KC sweep hurt a lot, but we followed it up with a sweep of our own (against Detroit), so that helped me feel better. I'd say the moment where I thought "oh no" was the night the fans ran all over the place. Frank hit a HR to put us up 5-4 in the 8th, and then Koch came in for the 9th and gave up a 2-run HR to Sweeney and we lost. That was on April 15, and it dropped us to 7-6. Obviously, we did better after that (we won the next 4 games to go to 11-6), but there was just something about that 4/15 loss that seemed to stick in my mind. Contenders don't lose those kinds of games, but the Sox managed to, and it was just so similar to '02.
  5. Yea, you don't trade a superstar for a potential superstar. Doesn't make sense.
  6. Don't think anybody had ever done anything like that before. HUGE hype coming into that game. Some people though Bosworth could stop Bo -- they were wrong, and the whole world got to see it on MNF. That was simply UNREAL. Made even more spectacular by the fact that he promised his dying mother that his first hit in his comeback would be for her. Definitely one of the most emotional sports moments I've ever seen. Of, several times. He threw flat-footed from pretty deep RF once and NAILED a guy trying to go from 2B to 3B on a flyball. Also a time when he was playing against the Sox, and Fisk hit a shot deep to LF and it was over Bo's head. He made a great play just to get there, bounced off the wall, and threw a 1-hopper to George Brett at 1B to double off Ventura. No arguments here.
  7. If it's so sad, feel free to ignore what I say anytime. That'd be too easy. That's not my style as you probably have surmised by now. No offense to a f***o like you. Cheers I'm such a "sad loser", yet what I say keeps you glued to the screen and you can't help but reply. Hmmmmm....
  8. Bo Jackson was 10 times the athlete Canseco could ever have DREAMED of being. Bo would have run, hit, and threw circles around Jose.
  9. If it's so sad, feel free to ignore what I say anytime.
  10. "there are many others who use corked bats (and worse)." What would the other players have done to cheat worse? Taken steroids? Ha too bad my ass. Steroids = worse than a corked bat. Don't tell me you think there aren't major leaguers on 'roids. And yes, it's too bad that Sammy is being made out to be some sort of criminal. As Artie Lang on the Stern show said, Sammy would have been better off if baggies of cocaine had flown out of that bat instead of cork. That is sad when you really think about it. Baseball is a game, and the guy cheated -- it's not life and death, though.
  11. Did I mention the term "role model"? All I said was that he has a better ATTITUDE than most athletes as popular as he is. There are very few role models in sports, though, now that you mention it -- and no, MJ is not one of them.
  12. For fear that the cover-up would one day be revealed, you can bet your ass baseball would IMMEDIATELY tell us if there were more corked bats found. They wouldn't risk the integrity of the entire sport for 1 man, you can bet on that.
  13. It's so fun to cause a stir around here -- I should go back to doing it more often.
  14. So oldroman's inability to see was causing his "pain-in-the-ass-ness". What's your excuse?
  15. Sure. Even if his suspension gets levied in the next day or 2, Sosa can appeal it. He probably would do that, since the series vs. the Yankees is a little more important for the Cubs than a series against Milwaukee or some scrub team.
  16. His wife dropped the charges...that means 1 of 2 things... 1) She made the whole thing up to begin with and Sammy is innocent 2) Sammy really did do it, and she's so messed up in the head that she decided to stay with him anyway. If that's the case, it's her own damned fault. But, looking at it, I'm sure he did do it -- afterall, women never make false reports to the police.
  17. Sure, he cheated -- but he's getting hammered for something that many other players do -- maybe even some on our team. That doesn't make what he did right -- but it also shouldn't make him public enemy #1. He got unlucky, bottom line.
  18. These Arizona announcers just called Joe Borchard "Joe Borshard" (pronounced boar-shard). Oh well. Game underway.
  19. Sammy is 2nd in the NL OF balloting. Vlad is 120,000 votes behind and Pujols is 125,000 votes behind. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb...r2003&fext=.jsp Another case in point of why fans shouldn't be able to vote for All-Star starters. ShamME couldn't wipe Vlad's or Albert's ass this year. Yet stupid f***ing casual baseball fans vote, mostly, purely on name recognition alone. If you put McGuire's name on the '04 ballot as a joke, he probably be voted a f***ing starter at 1B..... most casual baseball fans probably don't know that he has retired. If more of the "real" fans voted, maybe this problem wouldn't exist.
  20. Couldn't have happened to a more overblown, overrated, and conceited asswipe. Put "*" by all his HoF stats now..... especially the power numbers. Who knows when he cheated or how often. Sammy's got a better attitude than most other athletes that are as popular as he is.
  21. I didn't say we shouldn't be allowed to talk about it. It IS huge story, and I agree that it should be a topic of discussion here -- especially when you consider there are many very intelligent people who come here, and it's nice to hear their opinions of this whole situation. My point is that it's sad that we get so happy about someone else's failures and misfortunes. I guess that's what it's come to though, since we can't seem to do anything right in '03.
  22. It doesn't help the Sox in the standings. Maybe we're all conceding that the season is over -- we blow a 1-0 lead, and the majority of discussion is about a guy on another team. Sadness.
  23. LOL. Too bad for Sammy he'll be thought of as the only cheater, when in reality there are many others who use corked bats (and worse). Guess someone has to be the fall guy, though.
  24. You mean a guy went to Colorado for a season, had great numbers, then got paid an extraordinary amount of money by some sucker team? Nooooooooooooooooo.
  25. I've heard Hawk talk about corked bats a few times in the past. He's always maintained that there was always a corked bat or 2 around during BP that the guys could use just to "show off" as Sammy said. Of course, this was 25-30 years ago, but to think that there aren't corked bats in every clubhouse is just naive.
