  1. I never said the Sox were "hot" -- I said we were winning. And when you look at it, we at one point were like 5 games over .500 in '03. That's nothing great, but it's a whole lot better than we are now. And at that time, Jimenez was hitting like .350 and was mashing the ball all over the field. And if Jimenez isn't getting on base for guys like Frank and Magglio, who will Frank and Magglio drive in? Solo HR's don't do much for the team. 2, 3, and 4-run HR's sure do, though.
  2. When Jimenez was hot at the beginning of the year, we were winning. Lately, now that he's cooled off a bit, we're not playing as well. He's definitely a catalyst on this team, and we need his bat to heat up again.
  3. Joe was AWESOME in BP, but that was about it. He's not ready to be in the majors, and he's not much more than a rally killer at this point. I don't know who we should have out there (Rowand?), but JB's clearly not ready.
  4. Another really cool moment was on Friday night when Fernando Valenzuela (Dodger great for those who don't know who he is) was introduced and came out to throw the first pitch. He got a GREAT ovation, and even I -- a big Dodger hater -- had to give the guy his props. He took Los Angeles by STORM in his rookie season. Fernando-Mania still remains as probably the most unique time in SoCal sports history. That year, 1981, he started 25 games and threw 8 shutouts.
  5. Anyone who thinks we didn't get the best of that trade needs to stop sniffing glue.
  6. It was actually the bottom of the 5th. The fans started to pour out after the 6th.
  7. The Sox took 2 out of 3 -- it was great! My personal favorite moment (aside from both of Frank's HR's) was late in Sunday's game. The Dodgers were down 7-3, and Dave Roberts had just singled in a guy and was on 1st base. The crowd was chanting "Here we go Dodgers, here we go!", and just then Loaiza picked Roberts off. The crowd, of course, got silent, and I yelled out "YEAH! HERE WE GO!! HERE WE GO!!". Good times indeed.
  8. All I'm gonna say is that the Sox are either going to win as a team or lose as a team. All of this "in-fighting" among us as to who whines and doesn't isn't going to help anything. We need PK to start hitting, and we also need Frank to keep this pace up. Frank at 1B and PK at DH for a while sounds great to me. And for those who said Frank sounds "reluctant" about playing 1B, he's not. All he's doing is saying that it's just a temporary thing because he realizes that he wouldn't be there if PK wasn't hitting .194. He doesn't want to ruffle any feathers, and he's trying to be as good of a teammate as he can possibly be.
  9. The same could be said about any ML pitcher...no?
  10. I don't think Frank really cares about being portrayed by MLB as an elite superstar. He knows what he's done in this game and he knows what he's still capable of. Not only that, I think his teammates throughout the years and even still today know what he brings to the table. For Frank, I think that's all that matters.
  11. That was an INCREDIBLE play by Frank. I believe it was in the first Dodger game, right? I couldn't believe he made it, and he was the happiest guy in the world at that moment.
  12. Why does Frank sound so reluctant?? Is he afraid he can't handle 1B and would embarass himself? Doesn't sound very reluctant to me. And he's only made 1 bad play since being moved over there, so I doubt he's afraid he'll embarass himself. Said a somewhat reluctant Thomas: "That's OK. I don't think it will be every day." Sounds reluctant to me. Like I said, doesn't sound very reluctant to me.
  13. I had seats right behind home plate for the Dodger series, and Frank was back in the box, but he was actually pretty much right on home plate. A friend of mine commented that he always thought Frank stood further away from the plate, and he was right. Whatever he's doing is working, though, as he's just killing the ball lately. I'd say he CRUSHED 5 or 6 balls in the series -- prior to now, it would take him a week to hit that many balls hard.
  14. Why does Frank sound so reluctant?? Is he afraid he can't handle 1B and would embarass himself? Doesn't sound very reluctant to me. And he's only made 1 bad play since being moved over there, so I doubt he's afraid he'll embarass himself.
  15. I went to all 3 of the games, and I must say -- the Sox looked very good. - Our pitching was obviously excellent. We gave up a total of 6 ER (which should have been 5 since the Lo Duca play should NOT have been ruled an in-the-park HR, it was a 2-base error on Magglio all the way). Our bullpen only had to pitch 4 innings, but they did it flawlessly (Friday night Gordon kind of scared me, but that was it). Our pitchers combined for 24 strikeouts in 26 innings, with just 2 walks (Gordon on Friday night). - Frank Thomas is a f***ing stud. He was the MVP of the series IMO, and he was just mashing the ball. He's my favorite player, and this weekend he reminded me why. 6 for 9, 2 BB, 2 HR, 3 RBI, and flawless defense at 1st. His average is up to .288, which leads the team. His 13 HR also leads the team. For those who said he was done, they better think again. - We were able to sacrifice guys over, and when we had RISP with less than 2 outs, we did a markedly better job of getting them to score. 3 sacrifice bunts (Colon, Loaiza, Olivo), and 2 stolen bases (Jimenez, Graffanino) and it really looked nice. We just beat a pretty darned good Dodger team 2 out of 3, and we looked good doing so. Hopefully we can continue this against a good Giant team.
  16. Well I didn't see the article, so I don't know what exactly was said. But, Magglio must be doing something wrong at the plate. He's too good of a hitter to be below .270. He needs to start going the other way like he's done in the past (and that could be said for many other hitters on our team). The Sox are now 1-2 when I'm in attendance. Hopefully after tonight they'll be 2-2.
  17. I don't know if that's a dig by Magglio or not, but if it is, he needs to check himself. His average has dropped 30 points in the last 2 weeks. He's one of the main reasons we've been so awful lately.
  18. Maybe because he was causing MAJOR problems?
  19. True..but you've gotta start somewhere. Koch's ERA was like 10 until he started to turn it around. He's given up 1 ER in his last 11 IP, bringing his ERA "down" to 5.10. 5.10 still sucks, but when evaluating his trade value, he at least has some now -- at an ERA of 10, he was worthless. Hopefully White can run off a similar stretch so we can get something for him in a trade.
  20. How about work on his HOF induction speech?
  21. How about... Go to Hell? ahmm he's playing for the ScRubs isn't that hell Last time I checked, the Cubs were owning the Sox in the standings. I'd much rather be in their position than the position that we are in.
  22. Baseball would lose all the magic of 98 , i do not agree with it but they will cover for Shamme If we were in the year 1999 or 2000, I might agree. But we're in 2003 -- the HR race of '98 was 5 years ago.
