Last 14 days 1.030 OPS, last 28 days .952 OPS. He may just be hot but he seems to be really coming into his own… I don’t understand his defensive WAR totals. It seems like he’s really improved in the field and has made some really spectacular plays lately but he’s sitting on a -0.7 dWAR. What does this even mean, and is that stat accurate and or relevant?

I just think the Yankees have a really good offense and sometimes, even twice in a series, you get beat by a lineup of really good hitters late. That’s no reason to rush to sweeping definitive conclusions about proven players’ overall abilities.

I actually had not seen that video. I’m not doubting Jason’s account, but for a team to nickel and dime saving, what, $100,000 on flights and hotels? on a payroll of this size seems extraordinarily bewildering.

I understand the concept of giving players the day off, but how do you not pinch hit for Jake Lamb and Leury Garcia in the 9th?! How much of an extra toll is one at bat and maybe 3 outs in the field going to put on these elite players?

JFC, no. It’s not “crybabyism” to point out a handful of ridiculously easy decisions a child could have made that our manager didn’t in either game. Those decisions put us in a much worse position to try to win and winning HFA is ridiculously important on a team that struggles with elite competition. It’s one thing when we just get beat by better playing, better managing, better pitching. it’s quite another when a nincompoop leaves his best weapons on the bench because of some bygone hunch from 1974 that is a statistically losing play.

To sum up your 2021 thoughts: Yermin had completely arrived as a major leaguer after 100 at bats or so, but 3 or 4 bad at bats in between .900 OPS weeks in the midst of a stellar career is all it takes for you to consider Jose terrible again, right? Really it all speaks for itself.
