  1. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 10:45 PM) 99.9% sure. You've never been here before? QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 10:45 PM) Just confirmed, Bruney DID re-sign, per CSN Chicago: Brian Bruney: The Sox brought Bruney back on a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training after the righty posted a 5.87 ERA with the Sox in 2011. He had some decent results in the majors before regressing hard in his final few games, after which he was designated for assignment. He doesn't have much upside, but at least the Sox will be aware of what they're getting if he winds up in the 2012 bullpen. If a 5.87 ERA doesn't warrant another invitation, I don't know what does.
  2. Miguel Socolovich? That's a real person? It sounds like one of those randomly generated names from Madden with two completely different first and last names. I don't care what anyone says, I don't want to see Jhan Marinez on the major league roster at any point. Both his first and last name somehow make me angry. I see that Vicente Padilla is out there. Hopefully KW offers him a contract, then when Padilla is just about to put pen to paper, KW choke slams him through the Spanish announce table.
  3. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 07:09 PM) Taking clothing hints from former il senator Paul Simon makes him a dips*** above all other I don't know what this means in the slightest. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 04:30 PM) I've learned to not speak in absolutes. Apparently Mr. Rosenthal should as well! He's a sith!
  4. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) I love those comments. The fat DH isn't lazy. When does he have a chance to be lazy? It doesn't take much effort to walk to the plate, take three swings and embarrass yourself. Exactly. I think in a lot of people's minds, not making excuses = giving effort.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 07:57 AM) Oh, and why did the f***ing creators of the English language, as assbackwards as it already is, decide that "enough" is pronounced "ee-nuff" but thorough is pronounced "therr-oh?" Starting tomorrow and probably only lasting 45 minutes, I'm pronouncing enough as "e-no" and thorough (and f***ing through for all I care) as "ther-RUFF." Then we'll really find out who the top dog is. I've heard that English is one of the tougher languages to master. Having studied Spanish for years, it's definitely tougher in comparison. Many things in English seem arbitrary while Spanish seems to have much more structure.
  6. QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 09:13 PM) So child rearing takes no responsibility? That's clearly what I said. Around these parts, though, the guy goes out and gets the job. The girl might get a part-time job eventually if the guy is lucky, but the girl almost always gets lots and lots of help from her mom/dad/grandparents/in-laws (not to mention the father of the child) on the actual day-to-day child rearing.
  7. Did you add the Simpsons quote or did the writer?
  8. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 12:35 PM) Dunn might have suck last year but at least he gave effort.. I wouldn't want another lazy ass player on the Sox. What exactly makes you think that he gave effort?
  9. They're friends, and money. Simple answers.
  10. I hope they tear each other apart. I'm loving this.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 10:35 AM) See Milkman? the court of public opinion goes both ways She's a nobody, though. Has her name even been mentioned? Or will it? Either way, she likely won't have to deal with it as long as Castro does.
  12. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) I liked Stults. I liked stilts!
  13. I agree to an extent. I live in an area where a lot of girls get knocked up young. A lot of times it seems like they're praised for it. And not to sound sexist, but I'm about to, it usually ends with the mom staying at home for years and years while the dad takes up the vast majority of responsibility.
  14. SOME of Arrington's quotes make sense.
  15. Sucks for Castro. Even if he's innocent, he'll be guilty in the court of public opinion.
  16. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 07:51 AM) For which team does Beinfest work? Marlins.
  17. Just making sure.
  18. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 07:53 PM) It is a win-win-win. Win for Cubs, Win for Marlins, Win for Zambrano. However it could turn into a win-lose-lose. If Zambrano messes it up and causes trouble as a Marlin. Cubs got rid of guy that they wanted to get rid of. He wasn't going to pitch well and be trouble free for them. But Cubs didn't save that much cash. Bargain for Marlins. No commitment past this year. Are you saying Zambrano wins in either case?
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 07:45 PM) It did. Phil Rogers, too. Ever since Kenny Williams (the prospect, not the GM) failed, I've been obsessed with toolsy/athletic White Sox OFer's that never make a dent. Partially, it's related to the trading of the Sammy "The Panther" Sosa after I had just purchased a custom-made 1989 Sox jersey in the midst of his rookie campaign. Anthony Webster. Jimmy Hurst was another one. Walker, Mitchell and Thompson...same thing. Claudell Washington. Ron LeFlore...I watched The RON LEFLORE story probably five times when I was a kid growing up. Rudy Law was another personal favorite. Of course, Lance Johnson...I remember writing for his autograph when he was still on the Cardinals, and McGee/Vince Coleman were my two favorite players to watch, along with Terry Pendleton. Ivan Calderon. Carlos Martinez. Too many to name/count. Honestly man, I have no idea what you're talking about half the time
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 02:37 PM) I don't find the idea that a reporter doesn't report on something odd. It happens all of the time. We find out lots of stories way after the fact. Not even an allusion to it? I won't be buying that.
  21. That sounds vaguely familiar.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 01:20 PM) If the guy won't talk about it, how do you write about? You're really Balta-ing this conversation. I didn't say that someone would write an entire article about it, but if there are rumors out there that this happened, you don't think a single line in one article by the dozens of baseball writers in Chicago or a twitter post or anything would appear?
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 01:16 PM) And because this is the case, Dunn, Rios and Peavy need to be starting as much as possible. The only chance we have at dealing them is with bounceback seasons. That isn't going to happen if they are on the bench for someone out our crappy Charlotte OF. You've said this to me before, I know and I don't think I've said otherwise.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 01:26 PM) jcrasnick Jerry Crasnick Boras's Edwin Jackson binder runs 56 pages -- 17 pages fewer than Prince's book. Still hefty for a pitcher w/ 60-60 career record Binder?
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 10:13 AM) Dunn doesn't seem like a media type at all. I can't even remember anything from an interview with him last year. Some guys don't the need to dryhump a microphone anytime it is in the room. That's not my point. If this story is out there, you think not a single writer would mention it even in passing? QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 12:26 PM) The minute he could be moved with the Sox paying no more than half his salary, he will be gone. Again, not my point.
