QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:46 AM) Umm...I expect more from you. I'm serious. Besides the good weather, all I've heard for a long time is the negative stuff people have already said.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:41 AM) San Diego would be great. I was up in the Central California Coast last week, that would be amazing. San Fran area would be great, too. LA? Absolutely zero desire. What major-ish cities are there on the coast between LA and San Francisco? I know there's quite a bit of space there.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:38 AM) If he doesn't return to the Sox, I agree that I'd like to see him with the Cards, which is clearly a dream for him. But here's the thing... if the Cards don't have room for him, and the Sox make only a piddly offer... and he has other offers on the table... what choices does he have? He can either retire - while still pretty young and with lots of playing years left - or he can take the best offer. All things equal, or even slightly less than equal, I have zero doubt that Mark would play for the Sox or STL if that is possible. But if its not, while I'll be sad, I can't see how that makes him a hypocrite. Mark Buehrle has mentioned retiring about 10 times a year for the last 5 years. If neither one of his top teams can sign him, then he can retire and make his dream come true at last. If he decides that he wants to continue playing, he can find a team as close to St. Louis as possible that will offer him a fair salary, as he's stated that being close to home and spending time with his family is of the utmost importance to him, and I'm fairly sure he's mentioned that he's made more money than he'll ever need. Those things make him a hypocrite. And while this stuff happens every year in baseball (guys signing anywhere as long as the price is right), the vast majority of those players don't go out of their way to harp on the issues that Buehrle repeatedly does.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:23 AM) This is a good post. I'll miss Mark if he goes, which looks increasingly likely. One my my favorites. But you are right, I think a lot of reactions here, one way or the other, are being driven by emotional attachment. Like the phases someone goes through when a relationship ends. I've clearly stated my opinion in PHT recently. I think it's a perfect time to let Buehrle walk, but he'll only be proving himself a complete hypocrite if he signs somewhere far from St. Louis for a huge sum of money/years. I'd like him to somehow land with the Cardinals.

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 11:51 PM) I can buy this. However, it has been suggested here that the Jays actively came after Santos. And how elite of a prospect is Molina that we'd be losing so much to walk away? Opinions are mixed on him...some say future relief pitcher, others say middle of rotation. I've seen no one saying he's a top end starter. It is clear (without me seeing him I'll admit) that he has impressive control, a big time splitter...but the other pitches don't appear to grade as high. The one thing I DO Like and this is the ONLY thing I like is that Keith Law doesn't like the trade. Maybe enough that KW and company jumped at the opportunity?- Catch All Anything Thread
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 11:48 PM) Absolutely Eh, you're biased, old man.- Sox Winter Meetings thread
QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) because we werent shopping him! we weren't looking to trade him. We wanted Molina, and when AA said Santos, we pulled the trigger. You can't say "oh please give me a few hours to see if I can get a better deal". What kind of negotiating is that? If you feel you're getting a good deal, based on all the evaluations you've been making the last however many years, you take it. THAT'S the game. That's how it works. You said it better.- Sox Winter Meetings thread
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) I just don't know why Williams wouldn't bid up the price on Santos. Having a team out there that would have been interested who wasn't even aware of Santos' availability just wreaks of bush league GM work. I don't get it. Every single expert on MLB Network is pretty much scratching their head over this move. Adding the fact at least 1 team confirmed to have no knowledge of player's availability just adds to the disappointment of this deal, because it likely (not guaranteed, but possible) could have brought us back a better package. Perhaps the Sox went after Molina, not intending to offer Santos. The Blue Jays said, "you give us Santos and it's a deal." KW might not have wanted to back down off of their negotiations in order to shop Santos around, as they could possibly have lost their chance at Molina by walking away or hurt his reputation as a GM sort of in the way that Rizzo did it to KW. I'm not saying that it's a good reason, but it might be something along those lines.- Top US Cities

SOA, go f*** yourself.- Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 06:33 PM) I never have a problem with guys going for the most money. People actually criicized ARod for taking the extra $100 million. Buehrle is probably set for life, but pitching 6 months a year for 4 more years sets up another generation or 3. I understand going for the money. I really do. But with most guys, they don't repeat over and over again how much being close to home and wanting to retire means to them. I doubt A-Rod was talking about wanting to play closer to New York or the Dominican Republic, perhaps retiring at the end of whichever contract he was on at the time, etc.- Sox Winter Meetings thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 06:05 PM) I'm serious. I knew when we started off slow that we would have a may-june run that would have people saying "Oooh well maybe if we have a good second half" and then the second half is just going to be a brutal trudge to third place. The reason I asked was because I had a similar belief. I wasn't sure if you were mocking the people who thought that or not.- Catch All Anything Thread

I still don't think he was 100% healthy from his surgery in mid-April, Rushed back and was too stubborn to admit it. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) The #18 ranking was for BA's yet-to-be released 2012 Prospect Handbook. I'm 100% certain of this. Right now, he's our #2 prospect per Callis. Who is #1?- Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 05:35 PM) No, the closer should be Crain. See if he can handle the role and if he does well, then you can move him at the deadline for something of value. If not, then give Reed the job. That's a nice plan, actually.- Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 05:34 PM) After seeing a fair but not spectacular return for Santos, the more I think about it the more I'd like to see Viciedo shopped in an effort to bolster the rotation. No. - Sox Winter Meetings thread
