QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:09 AM) No, but they do affect the culture of the board. That's blatantly obvious. Who or what is the "they" you speak of?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) If the team was in 1st place by 10 games, Pale Hose Talk would be dead silent. Jeez, come off it. The vast majority of regular posters are here after every single game. This whole martyr syndrome from the eternal optimists gets old, although I'm sure they feel the same way about the pessimists.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:28 AM) Just like when they get embarrassed at Fenway I mean, they did get embarrassed in 2008 as a regular season team that hardly deserved to make the postseason. -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) I'm just shocked that so many have such a great idea about what will happen to this team, when the 11-22 start and the 26-17 are really completely jeckyl and hyde scenarios. Yes, one lost 5 in a row to the Twins and Tigers, and the other lost 4 of 5 to the same teams. If you can't see differences despite those small sample sizes, then I guess there's no point in watching the rest of the season. We will win series against each of those teams at some point this season. This team is IMPROVING. It was abysmal at the start of the year, and now it appears to be competitive against most teams. I'm quite confused by those of you who continue to focus on 5 games as we continue to generally win series after series. You ask why this season is different? We are 4.5 out despite a team OPS and team ERA in the bottom half of the AL, with reason to believe many players will return to form over the course of the season. I can't imagine our team collectively putting up worse numbers (despite some bright spots) than a .718 OPS and a .254 team batting average. 3 of our 5 starters (Floyd, Danks, Jackson) have had disappointing numbers, and a 4th is right around his career numbers (Buehrle), and the 5th has been injured most of the year (Peavy). Humber is pitching well, thank god. Our bullpen has given up tons of games they normally don't, our defense has had game-squandering problems. This entire thing is really going to come down to whether a single 4-18 stretch early on can kill a season. Or a cold stretch in August/September. And yes, they weren't as bad as they started, but they're not a .600 winning percentage team either. They're somewhere in the middle, which will have them finishing likely around 80-85 wins. It seems to be a never-ending cycle. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:02 AM) Being embarrassed in the playoffs doesn't depend on your regular season win total. Plenty of win leaders have lost their open round series. I didn't say it did. I said that it's my opinion that they'd get embarrassed. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) Hadn't Cooper already been out to the mound that inning? I'm fuzzy on that though. Not sure, but I'm sticking with my above post.

QUOTE (supernuke @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:01 AM) If it was the case that Cooper was just going out to talk to him it would have given AJ a chance to let Cooper know he felt Peavy was done without causing a problem. Again, they might have just gotten antsy and nobody left the dugout. The fact of the matter is that AJ showed his desire to have Peavy removed and, whether or not it was due in part to AJ's actions, Peavy was removed and things went smoothly due to the removal. They talked it out and neither had anything negative to say to the media. At worst, AJ's actions caused no harm. At best, they won us the game.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:53 AM) It was obvious they were going to get him. Not sure what else to tell you. I mean, maybe instead he was planning on going out to talk to the third base coach just for giggles, but he was immediately up and going to the stairs. Who's to say that they wouldn't have given him "just one more" batter or that he'd only send Cooper out there to talk to Peavy? I think my notion that it is not beyond the realm of possibility that Ozzie would leave him in too long is truer than you saying that he was going to take him out right then and there's no chance that he wouldn't.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:50 AM) See that is just absurd. If we win in the 85 range and do NOT take the division, yes, valid point. But getting into the playoffs means anything can happen from that point on. I know people are tired of hearing it but look at the '06 Cardinals. I don't care how many wins we had in the regular season if it puts us in a position to play for a WS. Well, I'm of the opinion that we'd get embarrassed in the playoffs. But I see your point. Put the caveat "and we lose in the first round" in there. Then that'd be the worst thing for the franchise going forward. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) Ugh, why? The dialogue was about as clunky and predictable as I could imagine, and the characters were, for the most part, thoroughly uninteresting. It seems like almost everybody liked it.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 08:39 AM) REALLY?! This is f***ing awesome, and I don't know why it doesn't have its own thread. Really? Nobody cares?

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) Yours or mine? I would just appreciate it if you leave the personal slamming out of your opinionated posts. Thank you. Yours. And I didn't slam you in the least. I said your post was devoid of logic, not that you are.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 09:40 AM) Another point that seems to be lost is that we play in a really bad division, seemingly. I'd be very surprised if the winner of the AL Central wins 90 games. If the winner was going to be in the 94-98 game range, then yes, obviously it's crucial that you beat the teams in your own division. It tends to matter less that you win divisional games in divisions that are won with 85,86,88 games. It's not insignificant, but it matters yes. Ugh, the very worst thing that can happen for this team's future is to take this division with like 85 wins. It would buy another 2 or 3 years for KW and Ozzie and would lead to the same stale and stagnant team/play that we've been witnessing for years. We need to infuse some new blood, even if it's not a complete overhaul. The coaching and administrative aspect of this team needs serious change in both personnel and philosophy. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) Not ridiculous at all. I was there. As soon as that last hit occurred, Ozzie and Coop were moving in the dugout and were obviously going to take him out (in fact you could tell they were getting antsy before then). We all looked down there because we had wanted him out a batter earlier, and wanted to see if they were moving. They were. AJ acted like an ass here, he did something you just don't do. How anyone could defend AJ in this is beyond me, and I'm a pretty big AJ fan. That all said, its not a huge deal. AJ acted like a child, Peavy let him know about it, they argued it out, they moved on. So because they were antsy (and had already left Peavy in one batter too long in your own opinion), they were definitely going to pull him at that very moment and it's ridiculous to not be 100% sure about that?

QUOTE (Andrew @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 01:12 AM) You can cut my leg off for $16M and yet he gets that a year to not play 1/2 the time and suck when does.

QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:44 PM) It took off because people here will do anything to savage Peavy and the organization at any turn. Just look at the posts in the gamethread. Haha, savage. Man, the hyperbole is out in force today. If anyone cares to look back, there are only like 2 or 3 people in this entire thread making this an issue and it's not the usual crew. The vast majority seems to be fine with everything.

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:13 PM) What does winning a world series 6 years ago have to do with AJ showing up one of our pitchers? We don't win the World Series without Crede, Cliff Politte or Neal Cotts. Do you want them on the team too? Also, AJ doesn't need to show the guy up to get him out of the game. It was obvious to everyone that he ran out of steam. He was coming out regardless. Again, it's ridiculous of anyone to state this as fact. Both of these sentences are flawed. There have been plenty of times where "everyone" knew that a pitcher ran out of gas, but he was left in by the manager. There have been plenty of times where people were sure that a pitcher had to be coming out of the game, but he did not.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) Should a catcher and a manager have a signal worked out between them for "Come and take this pitcher out" that no one else, even the pitcher, recognizes? That's not the worst idea I've ever heard. Absolutely not the worst idea. It'd come in handy.
-
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:50 PM) It's amazing how many people are using their hate of Peavy/contract to defend AJ's actions. It doesn't matter who the pitcher or catcher was in the situation. It's irrelevant. I'll readily admit that I don't care that he showed him up. Yes, it's unfair. But hey, that may have been necessary. Ozzie honestly may not have done anything and let Peavy attempt to pitch out of it. Leaving a pitcher in way too long is something he's done before. We're in too big of a hole to take any chances at this point. At least AJ seems to understand that, although he went about it in his usual classless way.
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:32 PM) You never know with Ozzie. AJ saw this movie once too many and probably just wanted to make sure. Exactly what I was saying. Sorry, I'm still working my way through this thread.
-
QUOTE (skidoochic @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:22 PM) I'm with you ROC. I mean to me it looks like Peavy couldn't pitch and he was blaming his ineffectiveness on A.J. Not cool. Besides, who didn't want Peavy pulled when A.J. was motioning for it???? Perhaps this wouldn't be an issue if AJ had confidence that his manager would pull Peavy at the correct time and he didn't have to inform the manager of it?

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Milkman delivers replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I fell asleep before the game ended. There was a time that I'd watch the end of a Cubs-Sox game with a bullet in my shoulder...kinda sad. Always great to take a series from those bums, though. -
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 06:50 AM) Whitey Bulger, the 81 year-old Boston mobster who was on the FBIs 10 most wanted list for years and was the inspiration for Jack Nicholson's character in The Departed, got busted last night in LA. http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/06/23/califo....html?hpt=hp_t1 REALLY?! This is f***ing awesome, and I don't know why it doesn't have its own thread.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 08:24 AM) I agree with this for sure. Even the #10 movie on the list is still a really damned good movie. The only one I wouldn't watch if it were on TV is The Incredibles, and that's for the lack (IMO) of comedy.
