  1. Only vote for AJ, seriously. Every single vote for anyone else hurts AJ's chances.
  2. Man, I remember so many "beginning of the end for the White Sox" threads on other boards from last year.
  3. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 12:53 PM) Ryan (Minneapolis): Keith, how about some playoff predictions? SportsNation Keith Law: (1:51 PM ET ) Sure, but don't take them too seriously. Boston, Detroit, Chicago, and Oakland in the AL. Mets, Reds, Dodgers, and Astros in the NL. Chicago and the Mets in the World Series, Chicago wins in 6. He expects the Sox to be back in the WS, but it's such an outrage that they have the most all-star representatives on their team?
  4. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 12:49 PM) 4 each. And the White Sox have 6. Yeah, there's such a huge f***ing discrepancy between how many players we have and how many they have. So much so that it's the WHITE SOX vs. the NL.
  5. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 12:27 PM) I think there might be something wrong here. On the most recent ESPN Radio Update, they said Crede is having his hand re-examined today. I hope everything is okay, but it might not be. There seems to be one series every year where we have a bunch of injuries.
  6. How many representatives do the Red Sox and Yankees have?
  7. QUOTE(joeynach @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) There is no way AJ gets voted in. The best all around player in this vote is Liriano but he wont go becuase no one in Minny will do enough to get him in. Most likely schilling will go becuase everyone in MA, RI, NH, and VT apparently have nothing to do but vote hundreds of times for anyone in a red sox uniform. Apparently Mark Loretta is a stud which i guess the entire league and GM missed out on and oh yeah Varitek and his awsome .240 avg were a stepping stone away from getting voting in. Im surprised Willie Harris didn't get voted in by the red sox fan retards. Seriously though, AJ deserves to go he is having an all star year and better than the one he had in 2002 when he was an all star with a .300 Avg, 6 homers and 39 rbi. He is gonna blow past those numbers this year. But its too bad becuase anyone wearing a red sox uniform will win in any fan voting ballot situation so Schilling is your winner, GAURANTEED!! That'll be pretty tough since Schilling isn't even on the ballot. Oh, and Liriano (the one with no support) is leading the vote.
  8. My brother said it looks like his stance now resembles Konerko's. Maybe he's getting some pointers?
  9. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 09:31 AM) bruised hand. out for the year or maybe just day to day. How can anyone take this seriously? It was funny. He said the absolute two extremes, of course he's kidding.
  10. Pff...take a guess. Brian and whitesox91403, you two are cool in my book. My all-time hated wrestler is Goldberg, BTW. I can't stand the way they made him unbeatable. I also dislike Lesnar, and you know why if you know about that flight from England.
  11. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 12:33 AM) It's pretty easy Milkman and none of those stats requires anything more than basic division. I'll run them down really quick: P/PA -- Pitches per plate appearance. The higher the better. Everyone agrees patience at the plate is good. It tires the pitcher, creates walks, etc. K/BB -- Strikeout to walk ratio. A good indicator of how well a player commands the strike zone, but not the end all. (See Jim Thome!!) ISO -- Simply Slugging minus BA. A good indicator of what type a hitter a player is. Players with good ISO numbers are promising, because the potential is there to be harnessed in the form of increased plate discipline. It's usually brought up more in the minors to project players, but it's helpful in Juan's case to show that he has a fair amount of power, it's just his overall hitting that needs work. BABIB -- Batting average balls in play. Simply a measure of how many hits a player has when he puts the ball in play. If you've played the game or just watched a lot, you know that sometimes rockets are hit right at people and sometimes dribbles make it through the hole. BABIB help tell when a player has just gotten "lucky". FB % and LD % Just the % of fly balls and line drives a player hits. Good hitters obviously hit more line drives and home run hitters obviously hit more fly balls. Players with high LD % (Frank Thomas for example) usually have very good BABIB, and good stats in general. I hope that helped. I wish more people had an open mind about so called "advanced" stats. This is just common sense stuff that is helpful to judge how a player is performing, and how they might do in the future. Hm, those actually do seem pretty simple. They seem to be a very good measure of very specific aspects of the game. I was actually wondering this the other day, so maybe you'd be able to find out. Which player sees the most pitches per AB in the ML?
  12. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 09:11 AM) It goes in line with what Ozzie said (although contradicts what he said about Crede) http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../607040385/1004 So, one way or another, he'd be lying?
  13. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 11:50 PM) I just went over to fangraphs to check out his trends, and it's pretty crazy what he's doing right now. Prior to this year, his BB%, P/PA and K/BB had all been trending up, which was very encouraging to us Juan fans and stat heads. Now, they are almost all down. However, his ISO, and FB% are WAY up. He's having an AJ like 2005 almost: lots of fly balls with plenty of HR and doubles, few walks, lower BA and subpar OBP. His BABIB is down, as is his line drive percentage. His ISO is over 2, which is very, very good. If he can start taking soem damn walks, he'll be a damn fine hitter. I don't expect it though, and I'm a big Juan supporter/apoligist. Reading that almost made my head explode. I might know what two of those things are. Don't take this as an attack on stats, though. I just don't pay attention to a lot of those things so they confuse me.
  14. I expected the drug to be coke, honestly. The vicodin isn't surprising, though.
  15. I can't say I'd be able to do what that guy did, but you never know what you're capable of when your adrenaline starts pumping. I once killed a pitbull that was attacking my dog. I still feel bad about that, but it would have torn out my dog's throat if I hadn't.
  16. I much prefer the low-K Contreras to the high-K Contreras.
  17. I don't know about keeping him out until the All-Star Break, but I can't wait to get our guys some much needed rest. I hope Guillen doesn't even pitch Buehrle or Contreras in the ASG.
  18. I kinda want to see much less of Mack at 3B. Great outing, Count. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 05:20 PM) Is Cliff bound and gagged somewhere? Neal doesn't need to pitch here. I hope we never have to see him again and he's being replaced as we speak.
  19. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) Jimmy, hit a homer for my birthday. Please? Darn. He still has an at-bat or two coming. And happy birthday.
  20. BA making solid contact on everything. Good to see.
  21. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) Because that's exactly what I was talking about... But since you bring it up, yes, I do think that the way you put it is an overexaggeration: What you see as exaggerating, I see as being spot on. And what the hell is overexaggeration? It's that redundant?
  22. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) and way over-exaggerating the bad. 5.60, 5.15, 4.72 No exaggeration necessary
  23. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) Sure seems like there is some panic. I've seen a ton of "our starting pitching sucks. We're not going far in the playoffs with this starting pitching." There sure are a lot of posters who give up on players REAL early on this site. Rowand, we're halfway through the season. How long do we have to wait to be seriously concerned? And another thing, a few of these guys haven't been "mediocre" as they're being called. A 5+ ERA is bad, not meh. That includes Vazquez and Garland. And then there's Garcia, who is clearly not the same pitcher anymore, and whose ERA is approaching 5, too. They seem to be actually getting worse instead of better, and that's the scary thing (except maybe Garland). Even Buehrle and Contreras are slipping, and I'm not even worried about them very much. This is a serious problem that even our "magic" pitching coach may not be able to fix. I repeat, we are at the halfway point in the season. It's no longer reactionary.
