  1. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 03:04 PM) If Adkins is up and used for 5 or 6 innings we won't be looking at a "win" that day. ---- I brought it up before (kinda) in another thread, there's another reason for Adkins' ineffectiveness besides the 'working on a new pitch' line. CoughcoughvelocitydropcoughCough. I don't know what he's throwing lately, but back when school was still in session, I was getting reports of noticable drop in velocity compared to last year. Read into that what you will. From the 2002 AFL: http://www.minorleaguewatch.com/AZFall/fin-02alc.html Adkins was throwing a 91-93 MPH fastball with tons of movement last season. I haven't heard anything since May, but that pitch was replaced by and 88-89 MPH straightball, according to what I've heard. It could have changed since then. I'm just laying out the anecdotal evidence for all to see. Draw your own conclusions. Make your own accusations. I'm done on the subject. McCarthyism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 01:46 PM) Yes, Perez has been targetted by KW in the past. Does he value him as much today? I don't know. Just saying that, if I had to pick the one KW would go after, it would be Odalis Perez.
  3. The subtitle to this thread should be, "Douse ex-teammate in urine"
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) Hall.of.Fame Not Hall.of.Great Not Hall.of.MVPs Not Hall of.Titles Hall.of.Fame If 3000/600 doesn't earn you Fame, I don't know what will. Yes, he was consistently very good for longer than anyone else. That in itself is an accomplishment. If he was on steroids, he managed to avoid injuries during that time. I believe there is room in the Hall for someone who competed for years and years and amassed such tremendous stats. All-star appearances? Is Konerko closer to the Hall because he's been on a team? Being the fourth best player at your position for 25 years would be quite an accomplishment, especially if during that time there are 25 different guys who were considered #1. Being consistent is pretty special, look at E-Lo as someone who managed one incredible season, but lacked consistency for an example. Great points. That part about ASG appearances is funny, because that argument sounds like something a Cub fan would make. "Yeah, well how many ASGs has he been in? Thought so, he sucks."
  5. I'd bet that we'd get Perez if we got any of the Dodgers' starters. Didn't KW try to get him more than once? The Maggs to Boston deal, and in FA?
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) Ross Gload will not be the Sox starting first baseman in 2005, mark my words. Even if Paul Konerko does not come back, Kenny Williams will go out and get a real first baseman. You really don't like Gload much, eh?
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) Where's this monitor stat..? TIA. They have one at http://www.baseball-reference.com/p/palmera01.shtml It's under HOF Monitor.
  8. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) here's insight into this guy: in his same rant, he said he'd rather have curt schilling starting the first game of a playoff series than mark buehrle. nuff said. Are we talking about foot-falling-off Schilling or normal Schilling? I'd take normal Schilling, too.
  9. QUOTE(HoosierSox @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) Is anybody else worried that we do not have a backup first baseman yet we have a perfectly capable one down in Charlotte in Ross Gload. What do Ozzie and Kenny have against him? He was awesome last year. Why are they treating him like they did Kelly Wunsch last year? We clearly need him to also be the 7th outfielder on this team before we bring him back.
  10. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) Ehem.. he doesn't have any daughters. Even worse, they're sleeping with his sons...not that there's anything wrong with that.
  11. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) A 5.88 era in 104 innings isn't too good usually. Are you contradicting any move made by the Sox? Shame on you. You must be uneducated and/or a Cub fan.
  12. Ross Gload and Jeff Bajenaru slept with Ozzie's daughters. That has to be the reason.
  13. I'm huge on the steroid speculation (as you've seen), and I believe that Palmeiro was on them. Aside from that, he should still be a 1st ballot HOFer based on what he's done. Damn it, the guy is gonna be a 3,000/600 player. Only two other guys have done that. He's batting over .300 in his career. He probably had help along the way, but I can't argue with the numbers. I can't even fathom him not being in on the 1st ballot with those numbers.
  14. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) Not sure you could say that pen stacks up as nice as ours does now. They almost all had playoff experience, too. Something that most of our guys don't have. It's a fact that our bullpen with Billy Wagner >>>> our bullpen without Billy Wagner. He may not be the key to the WS, but nobody really is for certain. He would make our pen damn near unhittable, though. We'd pretty much be set for a 5-inning game from our starters.
  15. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) Agreed. Arroyo is too much. Maybe Mueller, if we're lucky. To whoever said you need a great pen to win the WS... did you see who won the WS last year? Red Sox had a good pen last year. Foulke and Embree were good, Myers, Timlin, and they had Arroyo in there, too.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:28 AM) Very f***ing doubtful. They may want Shingo, but Arroyo? He's a solid pitcher and they are in a 3 team battle that might only have one team survive to see the post season. Hanley Ramirez would be nice, but I think they want to keep him.
  17. I think the division will be wrapped up before then...or at least I hope.
  18. Jim Hendry just constantly rapes other teams in trades. Damn...
  19. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) Hey Im 1-0 in starting Game Threads this yr!!! Shingo was designated for assignment... we have 10 days to trade him Thanks, I just got back and haven't had time to look through the other threads. Welp, Shingo was fun while he lasted.
  20. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) Iguchi didn't even know Shingo until this year...they played in the same league, but didn't know each other...so of course it won't affect him. Wait, did Shingo actually get traded? I know there was a rumor...
  21. I haven't been able to see the last 3 games and most of tonight's game. Has Pods stolen any bases in those last three Cleveland games or tonight? If so, how many is he up to now?
  22. Uribe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, s***. Welcome back, me.
  23. JOE CREDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (It's gotta be the sideburns)
