QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) levine just said no more moves will be made by either the cubs or the sox. f***

30 minutes...this is so dead.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) BP said the Sox have now inquired about Dmitri Young. I wonder if he would have to backtrack his earlier statements? 1.) WHAT?! 2.) What does BP stand for?

I'm getting tired of them referring to Giambi as the Giambino. That really pisses me off. How can they compare a blatant cheater to Babe f***ing Ruth?

I can't believe how dead this year has been. It's insane that the biggest trade of the year has been Phil Nevin for Chan Ho Park.

Inductee Boggs: 'Gentle giant' got bad break
Milkman delivers replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
When did he say this? This has to help Thomas' chance at being a 1st ballot guy. -
There's like 8,000 people in this forum right now. Somebody say something! This last hour is going to be rough.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) So the Twins deal Mays and Loshe for Rich Hill and another major leaguer. Cubs deal Todd Walker, Rich Hill and another MLer (goes to Twins) for Alf Rangers deal Alfonso Soriano for Loshe, Mays, and Todd Walker Sounds like a nice deal for the Rangers, they get two decent starters and a quality 2nd baseman for Alf. Cubs give up a lot but get a good player...don't see why the heck the Twins do that. Hill is a pretty good prospect, but they better have a way to get some other pitchers. I'd love to see Lohse and Mays pitch in Arlington. They'll be All Stars.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) Has it been confirmed that both Blum & Mackiowak are members of the White Sox now? Blum is on the Sox now. Mackowiak is no longer an option.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) The M's have the $ & the core talent to be a contender for years to come. They got rid of an albatros of contracts & I think they are learning fast that at Safeco they need to manufacture runs much more so than slug them out. I suspect they will look more to the guys who hit for average over the boppers in 2006. I don't think you can blame Moyer for wanting to stay & I don't think the M's do either. You realize that Moyer is going to be 43 soon, right? He's got, at most, 2 more years left in the majors. I guarantee you that the Mariners aren't in contention in either of those two years.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) Well, we didn't have a back-up 3b....so he fits what this team needed. He's a special back-up 3B.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) Thats the whole point... We still have Uribe on the bench.... It would make Huff and Everett the DH/ backup COF's with Huff splitting time at 1B... Blum playing just about everywhere, Uribe Spelling the IF, Ozuna spelling the OF/MIF... and best part is no more Timo, Gload, Willie..... In the words of Hawk.... YES!!!! Sorry but this is just the deal I want to see happen... The team's built on pitching and defense. Lugo would mess that up in a heartbeat.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) Geoff Blum. Cmon, you knew what I meant. Besides, there weren't even any rumors about that deal at all. Not a single one until the trade actually happened.
-
Man, imagine we don't make a move. How useless would this whole forum have been? All of our time obsessing over possible deals...and nothing. Am I ever gonna be testy for the next few days.

Two hours...walls are closing in, can't breath, need Huff...err, air.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) Vizquel would be the best acquisition possible, imo. Well Wagner could be at that stage and Burnett could as well, but Omar wow. Still Giants are in the thick of acquiring Soriano, that tells me they are going for it. Omar isn't going anywhere. Wow, the Giants are stupid if they're gonna keep going for it. Sure, they may make the playoffs, though it's an outside chance even in such a horrible division. But, they'll just get bounced in the playoffs easily. Soriano will add nothing to that team. Their defense will still be bad, which is a major problem for them, and his offense will go down considerably with that park and very little protection in that lineup. And then he's gone after this year, isn't he? God, I've always hated the Giants.

WHAAAAAAA?!????!!!!?! Sorry, I actually did have a heart attack.

Buster Olney just said that Jamie Moyer was traded to the Braves and the Astros, but he invoked his no-trade clause for both. Didn't he say a while ago that he wanted to win something before he retired? And wouldn't he have a much better chance at winning something on the Braves or Astros than he would on the Mariners, where he has no chance?
-
Buster Olney was just on ESPNEWS. A couple days ago, he said the Sox would either make a big splash or they wouldn't make a trade at all. He just said now that he believes KW will make a move before the day is done. So, maybe he knows something?

Three hours left. Crap, we're standing pat, aren't we?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) That's what it sounded like. I don't know what to think about that. It could be good because it takes our attention off of other possible trades, letting us focus on Huff. It could be bad because TB's GM sucks, and we might just end up screwing ourselves out of any trade at all. And I still think we need another reliever.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) Just saw where the Score is reporting it's Huff or bust right now, with McCarthy not being involved in the deal. There's not a chance in hell we get Huff without giving up BMac. That means we're focusing soley on getting Huff, and nobody else in baseball?

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) Ozuna, Mack, Goochi, Crede in an emergency, Dye in a huge emergency. We have guys who can play SS. The 2 reasons I would rather not get rid of Willie are his speed and his little bit of versatility. A guy who can play 2B/SS and essentially all 3 OF positions(though he would be not so hawt in RF with his arm like a girl...no offense girls) is very valuable...it's one of the reasons Mackowiak is in the majors. And that kind of speed off the bench is very nice to have, especially come playoff time. Felix Diaz for Mack might work...if not, I'm almost sure Diaz and Munoz makes it. I'm saying there'd be no back-up for SS if we got rid of Ozuna. Mackowiak hasn't played a game at SS in his career, according to ESPN.com. Gooch doesn't have the arm and Crede is the starting 3B. My point is that there is no back-up for SS without Ozuna, and there isn't. You're only talking about emergency situations, I'm talking about a guy who can fill in once or twice a week.

God...just shut up already. Just shut. the. f***. up.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) Here he is; EDIT: Work you stupid picture. Ahh screw it. It was a Huff Movie pic. You tried, that's all that matters. And yes, fathom, I can't believe it's this quiet. I already said I won't be pissed at KW if he does nothing special, but I already feel the disappointment setting in. I'll be so depressed today if nothing happens.
