  1. I swear that the bears did the exact same thing with their last college scouting director that they replaced with Gabriel. They did the draft, and fired him right afterwards
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) Minnie got Crede for pennies and didn't lose anything by having him there til his back told him he truly was finished. Garland has still been a serviceable pitcher. He started Opening Day this year. And I guess if Dye wasn't going to sign for cheap, it was OK to let him go, but if he was willing to stay for cheap, yes I'd have kept him too. They got Crede for pennies because he WAS finished, and they absolutely lost something when he went down because they counted on him as being the starter and had to shift people around like brendan harris and nick punto out of utility roles where they excel, into starting roles where they are exposed. Garland may have started opening day, but the guy is on his 4th team in 2 years after the White Sox, thats not exactly a great track record.
  3. hopefully he has some gas left in the tank. He left a huge void when he was traded
  4. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 06:38 AM) I got what you're saying, and I agree. Many of those on your list did have success elsewhere, and consequently some of us wished and wanted them back. It's the change of scenery sometimes, and it's also only temporary sometimes. Let's just hope it's not temporary with Thornton. Temporary? Thornton has been a machine for 3+ years now. Barring injury, I dont really see anything changing QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 07:09 AM) He also won one with us in 2008. We signed him for a year as a stop-gap. He left to Oakland, got traded at mid-season to Minnesota, didn't really perform all that better there than he did here. No one was clamoring for the return of O-Cab in 2009. I think people stopped clamoring for an Ocab return in mid-2008 when the news broke that he was calling the press box to change his errors
  5. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 06:22 AM) From Heads or Gillispie? hmmm good question. ISU may be forced to be dry one way or another next year
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 06:03 AM) We've got our first name as far as a guy who's shown interest and made contact, and that name is Gillispie. Hide the liquor!
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Well, there are a lot of Pierre backers out there. I guess you enjoy watching him play. Good deal for you. Bad for those of us who think he is no good. Pierre has had a consistently better career than Podsednik, and they are similar players. You can complain about it all year, but Pods is a Royal and Pierre is a member of the White Sox. End O' Story
  8. I dont think that the move to the AL will make Peavy lose his location and walk more guys.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 11:11 AM) We have a long history with Wilson (and also Padilla, although he's gone now finally)...he made quite a few comments that really got the White Sox riled up when he was in their bullpen. What did he say exactly? Maybe it was somehow connected to the Sean Tracey incident, or a separate one? was it the tracey incident or did it have to do with Padilla/Pierzynski? IIRC it was around the time that Padilla went bean-crazy on AJ
  10. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) Ahhh, BP...so there's sponsorship involved. Now it all makes sense! Everything in the entire sport is sponsored. Why is this so surprising?
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) Can the trophy be a stolen urinal trough from Wrigley? your definition of trophy is vastly different than mine
  12. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 09:31 AM) Pure silliness. I wouldn't call it stupid, but it's not necessary by any means. The rivalry has enough fuel IMO, so a trophy would just increase bragging rights and name-calling and whatnot. I dont see why this is bad. In college football they have the rivalry games (Red River, Paul Bunyans Axe, etc), it doesnt diminish the value of the Championship trophy to the teams, it just gives a little edge and bragging rights to the teams for that rivalry game. Its fun. The Sox play the Cubs and the entire city tunes in, this isnt bad to give a little bit of an extra value to to the game.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 01:57 AM) Paulie is a god; there I said it. You will deify any player if they have a big moment. there, i said it.
  14. That is crazy, I figured they would go for one of their assistants or even go back to McKenna On a different note, if ISU is interested, SIU has a great deal on a used coach. Runs a little rough, the paint is chipped, and may need a tuneup, but you can have him for a low low price

  16. ESPN said it richocheted off of behind his ear, not his forehead. Either way, thats a crushing hit.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 10:34 AM) I'd still take him as my lefty option off the bench over Kotsay. He would be starting if he were still here, no doubt. And people would hate him for all of the things that everyone is conveniently forgetting, no doubt.

  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) It's "couldn't", but people always use it wrong, and it drives me nuts. well then, my work is done here.
  20. All i said was there was a possibility. Not probability, I didnt say it was a position of need, i didnt say it was going to happen. Teams do strange things on draft days. I agreed with TRU that they like Henne, and I will continue to say that they are not looking to replace him, but many teams like to map out plan B just in case plan A blows out his knee in the first preseason workout.
  21. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) Actually Thigpen and Pennington are both quality backups.. ok sure.
  22. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) There is ZERO chance that Miami has either one of those QBs as their best player on their board right now, or anywhere close for that matter.. Aside from the fact that they absolutely love Chad Henne and already have 4 QBs on their roster, there is just no way that they are going to ignore their other positions of need (OLB, FS) to take a QB.. I can promise you that.. I would of told you yesterday that there was ZERO chance that Denver had Tebow as the best available pick at 25. The fact is, you dont know. You could speculate, but you dont know. And I never said it had anything to do with wanting to replace Henne, but in the NFL, guys move around and you need to have a backup plan. Who is even backing him up now? Cleo Lemon still? Please. edit: tyler thigpen and pennington arent anything to be overly excited about, and neither is Pat White
  23. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) You're hilarious Im not saying the dolphins are looking to replace Henne, but if they come up and one of Clausen or McCoy is available and considered the best player on the board, it makes sense to find a quality backup that could possibly challenge for the starting position in the near future
  24. I could care less that Chicago got all the calls down the stretch, because they didnt get ANY calls in Cleveland. I couldnt believe that there was less than 5 minutes left in game 1 before Derrick rose got to the line. That is just inexcusable
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) F*ck Santos. I brought him in in the 8th in MLB 10 the Show last night and he gave up a 3 run bomb. Not cool! user error
