  1. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 11:18 AM) well whoever the cubs get at 3 will get hurt doing his first interview. he will try hard to talk and his lungs will explode on the spot, leaving the cubs with another prospect that has their career go to $*** Really? Does their minor league system suck?
  2. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:12 AM) It doesn't mean much, besides the fact that doubles in many parks turn into homers at Comiskey and that a majority of our hitters are (or have morphed into) homer-oriented sluggers, even Uribe and Iguchi (until this last hot streak). Iguchi was way more of a homerun oriented hitter in Japan, his power is moderated in the MLB. Uribe I agree with, but not Iguchi QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:36 AM) If the offense is medicore in April and May we can tack on about 6 or more wins onto our tally. The offense is to blame for our place in the standings. They decided to take April, May and it looks like June so far off. The bullpen has been bad, but we dont score runs. How many times have we put up 3 or less runs, in the American league. You need to score 4 or more to have a chance to win. We should be scoring 5 or more with our park, and with the guys we have. How many leads has the bullpen blown after the 6th inning?
  3. How different of an offensive system is he in now? this isnt going to be the same Al Saunders 400 page book on passing for trent green. Sure, he is a veteran and will adjust, but he also doesnt have Larry Johnson in his backfield and one of the better offensive lines in the game(mind you, Ronnie Brown is no chopped liver). I think there will be a period of adjustment here, and those concussion effects are always a concern like Balta said.
  4. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 03:32 AM) wish I knew who the ef Akon is. You dont need to know much http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp2XD6LBfZ8 This is an annoying angle, but you get the point
  5. You have to imagine the people who the guy landed on would want to sue as well. They had no warning, Akon just picked the kid up and tossed him into the crowd.
  6. I think Kal was on the right track before he brought post count into the discussion though. Making blanket statements calling out an entire messageboard when you have been here for a little while isnt really the way to bring about a healthy discussion, and it will offend plenty of long time posters. The negativity gets to me too, but frankly I cant argue with it anymore. The Sox arent producing wins, and there is a reason for it. Just because a majority thought we were going to stink for one reason, and we ended up stinking for another reason doesnt mean that everyone needs to be called out two months in the season for being nanny naybobs/negative nancies. We still stink.
  7. I dont know if any of you saw it, but Sarah Silverman TORCHED Paris Hilton at the MTV music awards on Sunday. You can see the video at www.wwtdd.com I kind of felt bad for Paris for a second, then I thought "She was a f$&ing moron for going to the awards show on the night she turns herself into jail anyways"
  8. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) I got my Soxtalk cred and made my bones by taking out crazyman56. One up for Biggie! LMAO, that thread was FUN
  9. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) from what i've read, so far it's worked pretty well. Last night I watched Khali blow spot after spot just waiting for other people to do things(Umaga to get in the ring, Cena to get up, etc). It was pretty bad, I dont think this referee rule is in place for his matches
  10. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 12:36 PM) I think it's best to let Mr. David Campbell answer the question of WHY GAMBIT SUCKS. I second that notion. Dave Campbell is the next best Campbell. Bruce is obviously number one
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 11:37 AM) Well SOOOOOORRRRRY. Ha, I know a lot of people hated it, but I really enjoyed it, SO THERE. And Im the comic book junkie
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) Just in general with all the comic book movies it seems you'll get completely different reactions from people who actually read the comics and people who didn't. X3 is a good example of that as I know a lot of people say it really didn't follow the comics all that much but I loved that movie. I absolutely loathe X-Men 3. Im sorry, it was nothing but smash-bang-boom. They just dropped the entire storyline and made up some crap and sold it to everyone
  13. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 11:11 AM) No, where did you see them? and Kyle, this is not a shot at you, but how the hell would B & B know what went on at a players only meeting?Maybe, because it almost came across like Lou was happy that Barret got his ass kicked. Strange. I totally understand. I didnt take it as gospel, but I cant imagine its completely false
  14. I was listening to Boers and Bernstein yesterday and they repeatedly talked about the players-only meeting that the Cubs had last week, and how there was more than one player who cannot stand Lou. And on top of that, nobody came to Lou's defense, Derrek Lee just moderated the meeting and let people talk. Of course, this is all passed along info, so it probably isnt all true, but there is more than likely a good portion of it that holds water. I just dont know what could help that team. I dont know that Girardi would have this team doing any better than Lou, and that seems to be everyones de facto guy who was supposed to be the coach. Right now if Girardi was coach, it wouldnt be "He is old and past his time", it would be "He is young and over his head". Just my two cents
  15. I think Rock has the best one because its a real picture, not a glammed up model shot. Although I wouldnt kick any of them outta bed.
  16. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) Figures. Sox win against the Yankees, an hour later the post game thread hasn't reached its second page. The Sox lose, 5 threads are created, 3 by the same person, and the board crashes 5 minutes after the final pitch is thrown. LMAO! Truer words were never spoken
  17. Well, they gave jenks a save when he wasnt going to get one initially
  18. Gooch has been brutal in the field this year. Just awful
  19. Garlands first inning run was unearned because of Iguchi's error, right?
  20. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 08:12 PM) I have always felt Batman Returns was the superior film. I think Burton really made that film his own with the circus gang, as well as the Zoo. Alot of the shapes and designs that were used in BettleJuice can also be seen in the Zoo in BR. I think Batman Returns was pretty good, but I feel that Christopher Walkens character was misused. He fell out of the movie once Catwoman was "born", and I think he was just as important as Penguin and Catwoman in the scheme of the movie. there wasnt much character development on Bruce wayne/Batmans part either, and he(Batman) was a relatively new figure in Gothams timeframe. All in all I think Burton was in it for one, and was pressed into making two Batman films. Sure, visually it was great, but i just felt the storyline was really jumbled. And i really dont like that Burton killed all of Batmans badguys. Where is Arkham Asylum in all of this?
  21. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 03:26 PM) Was it that embodiement of that sequin suit he wore during the final minutes of the film that you thought was good? jk LOL. Unfortunately the riddler wore that stuff in pretty much every different comic he appeared in, so it didnt really matter to me.
  22. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) If Rowand had been on that Indians team they would have gotten that out. Right, Aaron Rowand is good at making diving catches on the fringe of the outfield grass and infield dirt.
  23. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) I've read tons of Batman... I do believe that what Nolan is giving us is more of what Frank Miller (who bid to and wrote a script for a "new batman" before Batman Begins)... Nolan gives it a perfect balance, while using Christian Bale, one of the most underrated actors in the country. I couldn't be happier with how Batman Begins wound up, and I couldn't be happier that Maggie Ghyllenhall (sp?) is replacing Katie Holmes' character too! You could probably spell that name 10 different ways and I wouldnt know which one was right.
  24. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 12:41 PM) On another board we are having a pretty big discussion about this stuff. The one thing I realized is that there is no ONE idea of what Batman is. Throughout his entire existence there has always been a different take on the character. The beginning was "dark", but nowhere near as dark as Miller took him in "Dark Knight Returns". The books of the 50's and the 60's were light in tone, but nowhere near as light as the TV show. The Shumacher movies may have been more akin to the TV show, but what makes them any less of the character than the West version? Batman seems to be the one superhero that has never been the same for his entire existence, always leaving himself open to interpretation for who is working on him. I do find it odd though that a fanbase clamoring for the TRUE Batman vision would embrace that Joker design, one that looks NOTHING like the Joker that has been around for years. Nicholson, in all his bloated form, was closer to the Joker than the first picture up there. True that the blurry show shows more faith, so I figure he goes through numerous changes. But back to Batman, it's all in what you feel is the true Bat. Question: How many of the people wanting a "true Batman" have actually read the books? How many have read the ORIGINAL books? How many are only familiar with the graphic novels Dark Knight Returns and Killing Joke? I am betting more are not familiar with the original books at all. I think the Batman show was more of a product of what could be shown on TV at that time. It was a way to cross over the character to a more broad and family based audience. It was campy for sure, but at that time they had to lighten the mood of the Batman character to put it on the air. Schumacher definitely drew from that genre, but I think the problem was that he was carrying the torch of the franchise that was handed off as a more dark and brooding Tim Burton version, and towards the end he completely eliminated all reality of the show. Thats where I started to dislike what Schumacher offered. Well, that and the fact that he changed the Batsuit and Robins suit into bondage outfits. Im sure there are people who can really appreciate what Schumacher did with the films, but I really thought they were poorly written and all about delivering the "BAM" "POOF" and "POP" instead of presenting a palpable crime investigation by Batman. Like i said earlier, I liked Batman Forever. I think Two-Face was completely unnecassary, but I thought the Riddler was great. But Batman and Robin was nothing but crap, top to bottom. When Batman was chasing Iceman on the top of the buildings, I stopped paying attention. I know that there are different versions of Batman. I have read a lot of Batman comics, and my brother had a great book about Batman through the years that I read from top to bottom. I have read a few graphic novels about him, and I just appreciate the Dark Knight version of him much better than the campy version.
