  1. I want to give Sonic Youth a good shot, can anyone recommend a good "starter" album or an album that would best sum up Sonic Youth to someone who has very limited knowledge of the band and its songs?
  2. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:19 AM) hey, didnt I say it was "BITTERSWEET"? And I just read an article and Big Frank actually used the same words, "Bittersweet". The irony and reason were talking about Thomas is, well, he helped doom our playoff chances. Hows that for a hollywood ending? Couldnt have been scripted better Wow. Thats just special. You guys are like, meant to be. I mean, its just special, man.
  3. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) Sorry ...........I'm still a FRANK THOMAS FAN, if you couldnt smile watching the Best Sox Hitter ever ..... Hmmm, boston fans must smile every time Johnny Damon gets a hit against the Red Sox
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) Jason Avant YES!!!! Oh how I miss White Sox Josh....
  5. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 11:57 PM) also really happy to be able to play all those great nintendo, super nintendo, nintendo 64, sega, and turbo graphix games again fixed
  6. Isnt Scott Eyre in the same boat? Im fairly sure he has had to take A.D.H.D drugs to keep himself under control. Its a tough line to toe, because these guys have a serious problem and it is tough to let them get the help they need because it is considered cheating by the league.
  7. QUOTE(cgaudin @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) Word......... Thome is country strong, and he never gets cheated while taking his swings, which is exactly the problem. But taking him out of the lineup means Pods, Anderson, and Uribe will need to be replaced with more productive hitters. I've said all along that I didn't like the Sox reliance on the HR. They need a more fluid offense that can put pressure on the basepaths. I translate that into "Please let Kenny trade for Carl Crawford if possible"
  8. QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) I sometimes state I've given up on this team, but I'm shackled to them. I won't be liberated until their season ends. This is the first thing I think you have ever said that I completely agree with. Last year was the initial high, the good stuff. Now we are addicted and just want that feeling again, even though we arent getting it we still keep going back.......Its a sad addoctopm
  9. QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) I really have nothing against Indiana. This is huge for Kill and Co. I'm sure Indiana fans remember the Salukis beating the Hoosiers at SIU Arena a few years ago. SIU b-ball is going to be top notch. They should be ranked top 15, at least top 20. Go Dawgs!!! That was the team that went to the Sweet 16, that was the most exciting season in Saluki history. I will never forget watching the Salukis come back from being down 30-11 to Georgia in the second round of the tournament in Chicago. They spanked the Bulldogs that day, spanked Bobby Knights Texas Tech team two nights before, and gave Uconn a run for their money before bowing out against the Huskies(A team with Ben Gordon and Emeka Okafor on it, among others).
  10. SIU broke a 23 year and 20 game losing streak against division 1A opponents by defeating Indiana 35-28 today in Indiana. They also were the first Gateway conference team to ever defeat a Big Ten opponent. Needless to say, Carbondale is quite giddy about this, any sort of exposure for Saluki athletics is big for SIU. I know Indiana isnt much in the way of Big Ten teams, but this is a great start for the Football Salukis, who are looking to make the Division 1AA playoffs for the 4th year in a row. I know there are a few Saluki faithful around the site(Brian and Rowand44 to name a few), and one IU alum in particular(Aboz!) who might like to have a little discussion, especially since Chris Lowery and the mens basketball team is heading up to IU in a few months to take on Kelvin Sampson and the recruiting exceptions
  11. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) Nintendo once again making a great system. I didn't mind the Game Cube but I felt it was clearly inferior to other systems just because they didn't have a lot of the games that interest me besides sports ones. But this is great, I love the old Nintendo games, it'll be fun to play them again. You should check out some of their lesser known titles, they have a lot of "clever" games, for lack of a better word. Games like Chibi-Robo, Pikmin, Viewtiful Joe, and Harvest moon among others are just a bit different than games that PS and Xbox offer. Basically, Nintendo forgoes graphics and overall console power for innovation and intelligence in games. This is a tradeoff that I dont mind one bit.
  12. Well, if Dog somehow gets prosecuted for this, at least he got that scumbag Andrew Luster off the streets while doing it.
  13. QUOTE(beautox @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 07:13 AM) Funny, i mentioned Young, and a few posters here scoffed at that idea, even though on the rangers own website they've been hyping up Joaquin Arias, and as we all know pitching has always been there problem, i highly doubt Garcia + Uribe would be enough, but maybe someone like Broadway/Phillips who should be ready by mid '07 would, i think giving up Broadway would be way too much on our end, Phillips not so much. Pitching > all. The rangers have alot of players leaving via FA this offseason, Lee, Matthews, Padilla, i think Eaton and Wells and a few others if im not mistaken. There is a weak FA class this offseason, thats why i believe someone like Jose could bring us alot back. Who scoffed at that idea? Young is one of the best hitters in the league, and his defense is better than average, it would be a major upgrade if Young were to come to the Sox
  14. I wish Hafner could be healthy for the next 3 days.....
  15. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 01:31 AM) How do you not know there were two outs? The only reason i believe ozzie did not take him out is superstition... and i am serious. I doubt i could have in that situation. Im not pretending I know what the heck was going through Iguchi's mind in regards to how many outs there were, I have no freaking clue. And if this run (or lack thereof) would have been an important run in the scheme of the game(maybe the tying run or the go-ahead run) I could only hope that Ozzie would have taken Iguchi out for lack of hustle or lack of brain matter.
  16. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 12:41 AM) Actually, the topic of this thread is "Will the Sox make the playoffs?" The subquestion is only for those who think the Sox won't make the playoffs. So a good fan doesn't question whether or not the Sox will make the playoffs? A good fan just closes his eyes and assumes everything will be fine? A guess a good fan just doesn't analyze anything. Actually, a good fan doesnt predict the date the Sox will be eliminated from the playoffs in as many threads as possible. Kap summed it up pretty well in the other thread exactly like this one. Im sure you have read it.
  17. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) You just have a feeling that everything will turn out ok for the Sox? I can't believe you feel this way. Yet, I somehow manage to stay conversational without trashing my favorite team every chance I get. Shouldnt you be creating a thread about how you dont like the site banner and asking for predictions on when it will be taken down?
  18. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) Personally, I think the inconsistent play means they won't make the playoffs. For every great game like Freddy's gem today, there is a lackluster performance and a loss. That isn't going to cut it. I don't see the Sox overtaking the Twins or Tigers. I'm going to guess that the Sox get eliminated in the second game of the Twins series, September 30. No way. I cant believe you feel this way. in regards to the question at hand, I believe the Sox are going to pull it out one way or another. I dont know how, but I just have a feeling that they will. I am pretty happy with the starting pitching recently, but now the bullpen is throwing games away left and right(handed). The offense is still pretty damned good, despite some recent problems. Hopefully the Sox can do something so it doesnt come down to having to sweep Minnesota in the final week of the season.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 09:03 PM) The first one by Iguchi was brought on by a total lack of hustle the second one on the other hand is still a mystery to us all. If Ozzie really wanted to get the point across he would have benched Iguchi immediately. You know for a manager who preaches hustle and playing the game the right way, his players sure seem to lack both. you know, a month ago I would have agreed with you wholeheartedly. But now with 16 games remaining I dont feel is a good time to be sending messages for lack of hustle(even as bizarre as that play was. The only thing I can think is that Iguchi thought the ball was caught and he was gonna be doubled up), especially when iguchi has been hitting pretty well. I just want an explanation from Iguchi of what was going through his mind.
  20. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) Awesome. http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/articl...t_id=1003121382 Here are my suggestions for their band's name now: SuperNoOne SuperNothing Tommy Lee's Latest Failure That Band With Tommy Lee And A Couple Other Guys Who Had That Reality Show But Didn't Check To See If The Name They Wanted Was Ever Existed Before Or Appeared On The Soundtrack To The Movie "Clerks" Or Anything Gilby Clarke and Jason Newstead are in the "band" too, so it isnt as if it is Tommy Lee and a bunch of nobodies. I wish CBS would have some sort of a battle of the bands other than this "I need a lead singer" garbage that is going on right now. Although I understand why INXS did it, their lead singer offed himself. But Supernova is just a corporate excuse to put out a crappy record with proven musicians that will be gobbled up by MTV viewers everywhere.
  21. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 09:42 PM) The wellness policy got changed -- failed tests mean that they just get docked pay and don't get taken off the road. And dear god, that main event from Raw -- botches galore. Backcracker, the plancha off Carlito's back by Hardy, Carlito falling through the ropes trying the springboard elbow...::shudder:: It was a bad main event, no doubt. I tried to stay interested, but 6 man tag matches with nothing on the line just doesnt cut it. I wish Vince would move a title or two during RAW or Smackdown! every once in a while. I know that the money is in the PPVs, but come on, the storylines are all washed together and anyone will team with anyone else anymore. The tag team division is a mess, they have good tag teams with nothing to fight for and no push. I dont think that anyone, anywhere, likes Cena and Edge. I kind of feel bad for Cena, he really isnt as bad as the WWe faithful think he is, but he needs to take a step back and try something different IMO. Edge just loves himself too much. I think after Unforgiven there is gonna be a roster trade with Batista and Cena.
  22. QUOTE(Wanne @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 04:58 AM) One of the things the Count did tonight...and hopefully getting back into the routine of doing is sticking with the splitter. Last year, in the entire second half...his splitter was the out pitch...and for some reason after the all star break he seemed to get away from it. As Count's splitter goes...so does his success. He needs to stick with it. Contreras seemed to have lost his good release point with his splitter, especially in the games where he got lit up. When Jose can throw the splitter, keep it mid to low and have it dance like he did last night, you can almost always pencil him in for 6-9 Ks and 1-3 ER, and he is almost unhittable. It was a good thing that he was on his game last night, who knows how the night would have gone if Lackey had gotten a few runs of support first.
  23. i have flipped back and forth between the Sox and the Chargers/Raiders game tonite, and I have yet to see the Raiders have an offensive possession.
  24. QUOTE(G&T @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) That's a real story and, last I saw of it, he has a pretty good case. hence the green text
  25. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) Don't his lawyers believe otherwise? EDIT: http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?p=922376 Is the Sporting News a Hangar18 approved media outlet? I dont know if I can trust this shoddy piece of news, it might be an east coast bias or a Tribune coverup.
