  1. QUOTE(The Critic @ May 1, 2006 -> 01:47 AM) I wouldn't take Fielder for the sole reason that I can see him ballooning to gigantic proportions in no time. He's gonna make late-era Tony Gwynn look like an anorexic dwarf. Dude's gonna eat himself outta the game if he ain't careful. He's already got the bouncin' titties when he runs. He uses those bouncin titties like Homer does to hit a ball. Bouncin titties are VITAL to his swing. How dare you knock those bouncin titties
  2. QUOTE(Chopper2Hopper @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) My wife, after less than a week of getting them for me while I work in a town that isn't considered the Chicagoland area, got tired of doing it and was able to persuade the 7-11 worker to sell her the rest of the set that I needed, so I proudly am displaying the whole set now. It looks real nice! Who's today's ball, does anyone know? I put them in a random order, but want to see how accurate I was. Thome I think
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) I still think he called a pretty s***ty game behind the plate at times today, but he made up for it at the plate. He wanted to pound the outside half of the plate it seemed, and as DJ and Hawk kept mentioning Garland was at his best last year when he was pounding the inside half of the plate. Hopefully this changes throughout the year
  4. QUOTE(bmags @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 05:44 PM) i went to three 6 mafia last night. it was awesome. did you drink syrup before you went in?
  5. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 02:10 PM) The only conclusion that I can come up with is that maybe the vet didn't think it was neccesary to put the dog down, but they insisted on doing it. Just because it ended up being put down eventually doesn't mean it was neccessary back when the family requested it. it was euthanized 10 months later, its not like this dog lived for years after this happened. You would think the Vet would be able to tell that this dogs illness was not going to get better. Not to mention that he/she deliberately decieved the family.
  6. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) Imagine how the tigers think. They destroy the twins, and make up no ground. Eventually, they will settle down and will start to lose ground. I bet the Tigers are still wondering how they got swept in Comerica by the Sox.
  7. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) How bout some props for Pablo! Another Pablo stolen base comes back to haunt the Halos! No s***, Scioscia must have nightmares about him getting on base
  8. Our West Coast woes wont be completely solved until we march into Oakland and take 2 out of 3 or sweep, but with this team i think it is possible. Judy Garland made another appearance, but the team hung in there. The Widgenator with a big game! Crede is crushing the ball as usual, I am really excited for him this year. 7 straight against anaheim, 6 straight IN anaheim. Who'd a thunk it?
  9. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) Here's where I'm confused. I assume the vet recommended the dog be put down, or can you just walk into a vet's office and have a pet killed on request, even against that vet's advice ?? I think you have to have good reason to put an animal down, but i am not positive. The animal in question had debilitating epilepsy, and even after it was given away to another family eventually had to be put down because the siezures were so bad. Basically, this Vet put the animal through more suffering because he/she decided that the family were bad owners(how he/she came to that conclusion I have no idea).
  10. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) Van Halen - not a Hair Band (although I prefer the term Cock Rock). Van Hagar - most definitely Power Ballad central. Quiet Riot anyone? And what about Night Ranger? LOL, of course you do. Damn Yankees anyone? Jackyl? Was Europe, Whitesnake or White Lion considered in this genre? I dont know if this happens to anyone else, but when I read this thread I start singing "Cherry Pie" to myself. It is maddening.
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 09:58 AM) Please don't start implying that I'm some bandwagon fan. That's bulls***. :rolly All I'm saying is that I don't think Guillen would gain amnesia about the story of his baseball team and forget that, for instance, Carlos Lee treated Damaso Marte like s*** and thus Marte beaned him. He wouldn't say, "I ordered it" or even condone it, but all I'm saying is that I don't think he'd pretend that nothing had ever happened like Scioscia. I wasn't aware that I'd declared Geoff Blum the best hitter in White Sox history. Well, he is the best hitter in White Sox World Series extra inning history.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 09:53 AM) That, coupled with a desire for some leadoff man, was what led to Lee being labeled one of the "selfish" players and being sent off. this is between players, so the heat generated isnt quite the same as it would be if Guillen had a player plunk Lee
  13. Damaso Marte and Carlos Lee have a past history? Or are you referring to history between Guillen and Lee, because thats not quite the same
  14. The warning system IS bulls***. It changes the way the game is pitched, pitchers have to become less aggressive with the inside half of the plate and it sets hitters up to look outside. I just dont understand why both teams have to be warned, if one of Contreras' forkballs ran way inside on a righty, then the Sox would have been punished for something that they didnt even retaliate from. If the umps had "well documented info" about this situation, then maybe before the first pitch is even thrown he should have said something to Escobar, Guillen, and Scioscia about keeping the game under control, instead of waiting until he hit someone.
  15. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) There's obvious dishonesty and intellectually dishonesty that isn't dishonest, per se -- it's all the difference between saying "I'm not aware of any recent history" about something that happened a hundred years ago and saying, "I did not have sexual relations with that HBP." He's being so blatantly dishonest that it tarnishes any integrity he might be accused of having. Escobar, too. "I overthrew it." Yeah, okay. That doesnt change the fact that he cant play that up to the press. I agree with you, but i know why he isnt admitting prior knowledge
  16. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 09:28 AM) -------------------------------------------------------- Their manager is full of s*** and a liar. He cant play that up to the press, any prior knowledge of something like that would get Escobar in trouble. He has to play dumb
  17. you didnt look hard enough http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=49416&st=0
  18. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 08:25 AM) Same. Not many of us we're fond of Loaiza that year. I remember he was giving up a lot of runs, but the Sox were scoring plenty for him. Yet, when he left, he said he was glad to be pitching behind a real lineup in NY that would give him support. Oh well. KW couldn't have bought low and sold high any better. I will have to say this about KW, he took his lumps early and often as a GM, and there were some bad deals mixed in there, but he has tremendous focus and guile now. I bet you if he calls a GM on a player, most GMs take drastic pause to figure out exactly why he wants that player now. I really dont think he overpays anyone, and he squeezes as much value out as he can.
  19. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 02:11 AM) I was at a bar the night Pauly hit the slam and the place was up for grabs. It wasn't until months later that I heard Farmer's radio call of: "IT'S A SLAM, LIGHT IT UP!" That call still geeks me when I hear it and that's saying a lot cuz I hate Farmer. Pauly's was better. I get goosebumps during every Grinder rules commercials this year. Especially Pauly's slam. I cant wait until I have the cheddar to buy the 5 disc WS set, im going to watch every game again.
  20. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 08:17 AM) Loaiza was one of the best things to ever happen to KW. He signs ELo to a very cheap contract, and he ends up finishing 2nd in the Cy-Young race. He comes back and struggles a bit. We're able to push him off for Jose Contreras. I remember how all the baseball critics were praising Cashman for getting rid of Contreras, to get a starter such as Loaiza. And the rest is history. I was ecstatic to see Elo go, even at the time. He was dogging it the entire year, and it was pissing me off. Now the Sox have the pleasure of watching Contreras for at least 3 more years after 2006. It puts a smile on my face.

  22. The count was simply masterful last night, his pitches were dancing all over the plate. I love this quote: What isnt in Contreras' arsenal? With the different angles and speeds he throws at, its no wonder he is on such a streak. He is truly fun to watch, unbelieveably dominant right now. Last year I used to get butterflies everytime he came up to pitch, because I didnt know which Count we would get and I couldnt believe that he had actually solved his problems, but not anymore. Now I know he is going to compete every time. There has to be some fun quotes on Yankee messageboards complaining about Contreras' success, lol.
  23. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 11:45 PM) This worked last year. No need to change. I agree. its a nice shout out to rooney
  24. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) What does it mean that he was "pitching from the stretch"? Pitching from the windup usually has the pitcher facing homeplate straight on, both feet pointing towards homeplate. Pitchers can usually achieve higher velocity with the windup, because they have motions that bring more momentum home. Pitching from the stretch is usually when a runner is on base. A righty would pitch with one foot on the rubber, with his back to 1st base, and toes pointing towards third base. A lefty pitches from the stretch with his back facing third base and toes pointing towards first base(making it tought for runners to get good leads and take off on lefties, because they are facing the pitcher). The stretch is meant for a quicker delivery to home plate, to keep the runner on base, and generally takes a little off the velocity(not always though). Most relievers pitch from the stretch exclusively because they have to be used to runners being on base, and there is really no point in getting comfortable with the windup.
  25. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) No, right. "Neither of us has asked that question to the Packers," agent Jordan Woy wrote The Associated Press in an e-mail. "We have had discussions with the team about his contract." If rotoworld told you the earth was flat would you believe them? If an agent told you the earth was flat would you believe them?
