  1. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 09:28 AM) The last 2 offseasons combined the Astros have added ONE so-so free agent.. and that was Preston Wilson They havent really done much the past few years, its really dissapointing living here and wanting them to actually DO something and they dont sign a damn person worth anything for the second year in a row Well what should they do? They made the world series last year, its not like they had a bad team.
  2. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) Aboz gets the jump on the gamethread! Lets Rip Em! Hasnt 8 games been a high water mark for the White Sox win streaks for quite some time now? I cannot remember them going past 8 games in a row for some time now.
  3. QUOTE(Beltin'Bill @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) The Astros have been one of the most consistently successful franchises in the Major Leagues over the past ten years. They have made several playoff appearances, advanced to a few LCS and made their first WS appearance last year. They are a well run organization that continues to have success. I would say they are the best run franchise in the majors after the Braves (and possibly the Cardinals). I mean no disrespect to the Yankees and Red Sox, but while their runs of success have been impressive in their own right, the Astros have done it without spending excessive $$$ on multiple superstars and have also done an exceptional job of promoting from within the organization. Their continued success does not surprise me in the least bit. I disagree with that, in the last two years they have had some big contracts for multiple superstars. Clemens, Bagwell, Petitte, Oswalt, Berkman, all have salaries that exceed 11 million a year. I dont remember what Kent was making 2 years ago, but I know he wasnt cheap either. Than you have their second tier of players that make 4 million a year in Preston Wilson, Biggio, Ensberg, Lidge. The team has thrown the money around at their big names, no doubt. The thing they have done well is promote from within, they havent had to go outside of their own organization very much to fortify their roster. And thats the way it should be if you ask me, if your players come up and perform, you pay them.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 07:21 AM) The problem with this article is that the author is taking all the expressions literally. When a coach tells you to keep you eye on the ball while hitting, what he is actually wanting you to do is keep your eye on it as long as possible. When he says 'get under the ball' in the outfield, he wants you get to the general area in time to make necessary adjustments. The expressions get the point across a lot better than the alternative suggested by this guy and therefore are more effective from a coaching standpoint. I also think the author is wrong about coaching little leaguers. You cannot compare keeping your eye on the ball in the major leagues to keeping your eye on the ball in little league Why is that impossible for a child? He is facing lob pitches, I dont think its impossible for a kid to track the ball to his bat.
  5. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 08:54 AM) You know it's almost to the point where people take the White Sox winning for granted. This team is playing pretty well right now and should get even better if/once BA and Pods get cruising. I think Pods looks 10X better. Right now I think it is BA and Uribe who need to get going, particularly Uribe because Cintron keeps coming in and killing the ball.
  6. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 08:47 AM) There's no way that guy was serious. I certainly hope not, but he looked pissed. I know people like that though, so it wouldnt surprise me. Some people just dont have a sense of humor when they are the butt of a joke, even one as harmless as filling your office with balloons.
  7. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) Twins 0-5 vs the central this year. They have the Royals and Tigers coming up, I think that might change.
  8. I wish it wasnt so interesting to everyone that Bonds hit his first homerun of the year yesterday. Its the lead story on all of the major sports networks(in the MLB sections, of course).
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 10:53 PM) Every other word Garcia says is "you know". It's his transition from one period to another. It's quite comical to listen to if you focus on it. Ozzies transitions are pretty funny too "This kid here...(Dees Keed here)"
  10. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) I, ah, only asked because my friend, who is from Seattle and a Mariners fan, is always teasing me about how Freddy will "always be a Mariner to me." She told me that she'd curl up with him and make him soup and chat with him for awhile. I said, "He doesn't speak English!" and she said, "Really?" I told her that I know he doesn't speak it well (from what I've heard of him introducing himself in the Opening Ceremonies before each Sox game that he pitches, when they introduce the lineups and stuff) and then I said, "Actually, he might speak some, like Ozzie," and what better place to ask than here? Ummmmmmwhat? Was she hooking up with him?
  11. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 10:36 PM) So.....this guy lost his spot on the team after two walks.... he is awful and should be traded. Long live Javy Lopez! ps. This discussion sounds eerily similar to people banging on the drums to get Podsednik outta the lineup after a slow start.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) I think we can give BLogan a little more time.... Blow-gun?
  13. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) Does that, at least, mean he understands/speaks it reasonably well, all things considered or...? I have no idea how much he comprehends, I guess you would have to ask him. I have only caught a few interviews of his, and I was less than impressed afterwards. But the Sox arent paying him to speak, they are paying him to pitch. As long as he keeps the Sox in games, he can speak a dead language for all I care.
  14. I think he sounds like the spanish version of Ali G when he talks. And I am completely serious too, he throws "Aiieet" in the middle of his sentences and pauses, its really strange. He never seems like he is paying attention when he is getting interviewed either.
  15. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 10:04 PM) great game. You better be shaving every day buddy. The Sox are undefeated since you sacrificed that peach fuzz
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) All I have to say is that the words coming out of the mouth of the 2nd stripper are pathetic! I hope she gets just torn apart in the media. Which can also be read as "Why shouldnt I profit from my friend getting raped?" I hope that this isnt the prosecutions star witness, the defense is going to tear apart her credibility from her little $25,000 embezzling problem.
  17. The defense attorneys are seeking to file a motion to suppress the identification of Seligmann and Finnerty because no pictures of non-team members were included in the presentation. Also, here is the timeline of events that supposedly clear Seligmann.
  18. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 11:47 PM) Hm. I didn't watch the show much, except for Next Gen, which I watched some in college when it came out. But as far as the movies go, I liked #6 (The Undiscovered Country, the last one with just the old cast) better than any other than Khan (#2). The eight one, I think, was First Contact, which was passable. I didn't see any after that (9 or 10), so I have no idea on those. I got pretty dissapointed after the crew of the Enterprise was reduced to saving humpback whales in order to save the universe. Although it was kind of neat to see Spock using his pinch grip as a Sonogram. The Next Gen movies never really seemed to stray from the show too much, and i think that bothered me.
  19. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) all you dorks said santana over buehrle... i said hell no you f***s... but you said oh s***, santana will win WELL buehrle won and i laughed my ass he owned you all and i love it so much... Thats funny, I went to the gamethread to look for some "f***s" and "dorks", but this is all I could find in the way of predictions(with the rest of it being "Lets go Sox! Rip em!"): Couldnt find anyone that said Santana was going to win, though
  20. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 12:21 AM) What an absolute biatch. You could tell that guy had absolutely no sense of humor when they told him they paid for the balloons out of pocket and he responds with "Who paid for the air?"
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 01:20 AM) On a related note, most of the people in his row were mighty perturbed after numerous incidents regarding food and beer at the ballpark. Apparently, once the vendor handed the food to Orton, the Bears QB subsequently passed the hot dogs and nachos and missed the lady down the row by two rows. This drops Orton's hot dog rating to 37.4. LMAO. Shortly thereafter he poured the entire contents of his beer on his stomach, for reasons unknown.
  22. This offense is confident, and the defense and pitching are almost as confident. I have to say, Jim Thome puts the biggest smile on my face EVERY time he gets up to bat.
  23. Just so everyone knows, we are undefeated since the removal of Iwin4Prep's moustache.
  24. Average Homeboy Just another white rapper.....ok, maybe not.
  25. QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) At the top of the thread on the right, click "standard" instead of "outline" (maybe not, I don't know ) Felix, if I knew you, and you were right here, and you were cool with it, I would kiss you right now. That was pissing me off something fierce. I have no idea how I ended up clicking Outline, but I will remember that next time.
