Jerry Reinsdirf rips Moronotti
If some of the sentences are strange, thats because they are hotlinks. for example: But Sam has come after Skiles, most recently here and here.

Jerry Reinsdirf rips Moronotti
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) can you post the story, I cant see it cause im not a member. Heavyweight fight … or is that lightweight? This whole hissing match between Jerry Reinsdorf and Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti brought this thought to mind: Maybe these two should be headlining for the next big boxing card in town. We're thinking maybe the Tribune's Sam Smith and Mariotti might make a good bout as well. Not to mention Sox broadcaster Hawk Harrelson and Mariotti, who almost went at it last year in the press box at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. Things got heated this week with the Scott Skiles story - Will he stay or will he go? Mariotti, who generally doesn't have much nice to say about Reinsdorf, wrote a column in the Tuesday Sun-Times ripping Jerry for not giving Skiles what Scott wanted. In that same column, he said this: "To hear Skiles, the final blow of a contentious period came when he read a column in the Chicago Tribune. Basketball writer Sam Smith, generally known as a Reinsdorf supporter, wrote a column describing Skiles as 'greedy' for not accepting the offer. Normally, a tough piece wouldn't be the breaking point in a negotiation, but in this case, Skiles assumed what Smith wrote was straight from the mouth of Reinsdorf." Couldn't find the Smith column. A search of the Tribune database for 2005 shows that Smith hasn't used the word greedy all year. But Sam has come after Skiles, most recently here and here. On Wednesday, after Skiles had decided he would stick with the Bulls, Mariotti wrote again, this time saying that Skiles got the better of Reinsdorf in the negotiations for a contract extension, asking for and getting a "meeting downtown with Reinsdorf, face to face, without his agent." Then Mariotti said, "I know big-shot business executives who have quivered in the presence of a poker-playing Reinsdorf. But Skiles stared him down, stated his case, played his hand and won the game." The final line of the column said it all: "He actually made The Chairman cry uncle." Mariotti also appeared to take another shot at Smith, and the Tribune (like Reinsdorf, a favorite Mariotti target), with this: "When Skiles and agent Keith Glass spent the last few days portraying J.R. as a tyrant, even accusing him of sending an ink-stained 'henchman' after Skiles with a rip-job column in the sleepy newspaper…" Then, Wednesday night, Reinsdorf went on Comcast SportsNet and slipped no punches, saying the Wednesday Mariotti column was "totally full of lies, which is consistent with what Jay Mariotti likes to do." The Tribune's Teddy Greenstein related those remarks to Mariotti, who said he used information "provided by my newspaper" and that Reinsdorf will "be hearing from my lawyer." Mariotti didn't write in Thursday's Sun-Times, but there was a story that mentioned Reinsdorf's appearance on Comcast and some of what he said. Not the "full of lies" part though. That wasn't all. At the bottom of page 2 of the Sun-Times was a correction regarding the Wednesday Mariotti column. Couldn't find the correction online (and the column we linked to above doesn't have the corrections in it at this writing). Here's what the correction said: "A Jay Mariotti column and a news story that appeared in the June 8 edition of the Chicago Sun-Times should have said that the Bulls' contract with coach Scott Skiles was agreed on at $16 million guaranteed over four years, including the option year. The Mariotti column should have said the deal was made in a telephone conversation with Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and Skiles. The Bulls' offer did not change from the day before. After that phone deal, Bulls general manager John Paxson and Reinsdorf also agreed to give Skiles a $500,000 bonus for his recent success with the team. That Mariotti column also should have said that Ozzie Guillen's two-year contract extension was for $2.5 million." You can decide who was bloodied in this one. Knowing Mariotti's consistent disdain for all things Reinsdorf, he'll be throwing a few more punches soon.

Twins cryin about the Sox Schedule
QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Really miss the Rockies BY JASON WILLIAMS Pioneer Press PHOENIX — The unbalanced schedule has been a hot topic since interleague play began in 1997. And the argument probably never will end, especially if it determines the American League Central Division race this year. The Twins' chief divisional rival, Chicago, had lowly Colorado on its interleague schedule, while Minnesota does not play the National League's worst team. The White Sox entered Wednesday's game in Denver looking for a three-game sweep of the Rockies, who had a 19-38 record — second-worst in the majors. Those games ultimately could decide what is shaping up to be a neck-and-neck race in the Central, with the first-place White Sox entering Wednesday with a four-game lead over second-place Minnesota. "I've heard people argue about that," Twins pitcher Kyle Lohse said of the unbalanced schedule. "It is kind of unfair when teams within in the division are playing different schedules and things within the division are so tight. But the bottom line, I think, is you've just got to beat the teams you're supposed to beat. And if you take care of your own business, you'll end up there at the end." Are you kidding? Somebody post the Waaaaaahmbulance again, I think Lohse needs a trip to his mommy.

Mike Cameron again?
QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) What do you think about Mike Cameron playing for the South Siders again? He wasn't that bad when he played here, but where would he play if they did get him. No rhyme or reason to it. Sorry, but Cameron would be squawking for playing time as soon as he stepped into town. He is paid like a starter, and I dont think the Sox want to pay a starter salary for a 4th OFer.

The Erstad collision compared to the Burke one.
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) I'm neither an Angels or Braves fan in any sense. However, I do consider myself a baseball fan in every sense of the term. Looking at the Erstad play from a completely unbiased point of view, that was good baseball. Period. I feel the same way about myself, and honestly I think I would be cheering if the situation were reversed and a White Sox player plowed into a Twins catcher the same way. Burke was near the plate, even though he wasnt blocking it. Hunter went to send a message, and dammit if everyone didnt hear and see the message. The Twins took off from there and went on to the playoffs. Hunter did his job, I cannot fault him for doing it. proceed with the flaming.

El Duque argument
QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) El Duque MUST start in the playoffs if we go (I aint jinxing nobody.) Do you really want Garland pitching in the playoffs steadily? Buehrle, Garcia, El Duque and Count. Garland will hopefully get his playoff starts some time or another. But if we go this year, we gotta grab the bull by the horns and win it all.. we cant make dumb mistakes by giving reps to Garland just so he knows what it's like to start a playoff game. Big Jon will be huge in relief for us hopefully. I completely disagree with this. At this point I would have Garland going #3. The way things stand right now, I see Hernandez being the one going to the pen unless he regains his control by playoff time.

Feliz to the Sox?
If he is taking at-bats away from JT Snow, then it would seem that Snow would be the one they would be trying to move. I wouldnt mind having Snow backup Konerko. A slick fielding first baseman cannot hurt.

seriously, mods I don't get it.
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) Most here live in the MVP 2005 world..Its a sad state... Thats funny coming from the guy who constantly proclaims "If KW would have signed the guy I would have signed...." It isnt really what you say, more how you say it.

Need- Official Scorer
On a side note, Ozuna had a very rough go at third base yesterday. It made me appreciate crede's defense. In the first two innings, Ozuna was thrown out twice, and made two throwing errors. Thats a tough game. Yet he still came out of the game 3/5 with a run scored. Not too bad, but not too good.

Need- Official Scorer
QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) Baseball gods I need some help here for my 77 year old uncle. Last nights game there were two errors which led to Rockies runs in the first and second. Why were those runs earned. In every newspaper and every box score on the net claimed the runs were earned. I need to better understand why. I know there are soem very smart kids out there. So have at it. damn, Hawk explained it too, and I cant remember. Do you remember the situations with the errors? Maybe that would help stimulate my memory.

McCarthy..is he really "insurance" for Duque et al
Plus, during Spring Training there was really only one team that gave BMac problems, and that was Texas. I thought it was unfair that the Sox ran bmac out against a team as hot as Texas, but what are you gonna do? Those guys can hit anything.

I love the topic this was moved under, LOL

Damaso Marte
QUOTE(thelatinoheat_30 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) i guess that could be why his fastball wasn't so fast last nite. i also have seen him shaking his arm. i really hope he's healthy and gets back to old form. even w/ cotts pitching good, not so sure i'd want him as the top lefty in the pen. might need to look for another. I also think the radar gun was sketchy. Polittes first couple pitches never reached past 91 MPH, then he threw a 94 MPH fastball, then back down. I dont believe the numbers they put on TV much anyways.

Casey Rogowski
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) He didn't say that Rogo would start over Konerko he said Rogo would serve as Konerko's backup. He just forgot the s at the end of Konerko. observe my edit.
-
Casey Rogowski
LOL, a 8 million dollar backup. Lets just try it out! What a great plan. Maybe Garcia should go to the bullpen so the Sox can try Gio as the third starter. Its worth a shot! edit: I read that wrong. I still dont agree with the move. But remove above said "smartass-ness"

Steve Phillips
QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:28 AM) Don't forget he can also play all the infield spots except for SS. Something happened to Wilson over the offseason. I think he got either a virus, or some sort of surgery that caused him to lose weight and muscle. I dont think it was a sports related injury though.

El Duque argument
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) I love this team. Some random Raines related note does anyone else love when he starts running down the line before innings then turns it on right before 1st as if to beat the throw? Raines is awesome. he is a magnet for foul balls too. Hawk and DJ are always laughing at him ducking and falling out of the way.
-
Where are the Jermaine Dye haters now?
What can you say, he has raised his BA 80 points in a month. It doesnt get much better than that.
-
El Duque argument
It looked like an argument, but noone looked angry really. Duque just looked like he was trying to stay in the game. Everytime I see shots of the dugout during the game, those guys look like they are having the greatest time with each other. Thats part of what I really love about this team.

Steve Phillips
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) Now they are suggesting the Sox trade for Jack Wilson and move him to 3rd or put Uribe at 3rd. Silvy is so funny, he is trying so hard to stay true to his cub roots and bash the Sox, but he just cant. He spent 20 minutes today complaining that Ozuna didnt know the count when he got thrown out and Iguchi didnt know how many outs there were the day before when he failed to turn a double play. Now when he compliments them, he is "throwing them bouquets". He also is not sold on Uribe, he talked about it for a few minutes.

Steve Phillips
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) He is not coming back on today, rescheduled for tomorrow. Maybe he realized he was going to take a PR hit and conveniently drove through a tunnel. What an Ass-half.

Steve Phillips
What did Farmer say yesterday? It had to have been good if Carmen and Silvy were talking about it.
-
Steve Phillips
If anyone listens to this show and interview and hears some good clips, please let me know here. Im at work and cannot listen to the interview. Carmen and Silvy are planning on running the tape of Ed Farmer ripping on Phillips, and asking his response. then they plan on having him detail why he thinks the Sox arent very good. Should be some good stuff. For one time only, I wish i didnt share an office with a hot girl. :banghead
