QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) How are you sacrificing defense? You don't think Voglebach can play 10 games a year at first? And Frazier can play some first so you can put Saladino at 3rd when that happens. And who says anything about getting rid of Saladino? And did see Sands at first the other day? Not good. The only question here is would you rather have the right handed hitting Sands on your roster or the left handed hitting Voglebach? Sands is very easily replaceable player on the roster. Because you are taking two players, Avi and Vogelbach, and using them both for one position, and removing any sort of flexibility that robin has with the bench because now he has TWO players that cant play defense, and MAYBE one of them can hit his weight. I am willing to bet Sands is better than Vogelbach and Avi combined playing the outfield, which means he knows what a glove is and how to use it. But you seem content to just throw him in there because....well i dont really know why because the guy hasnt really proved anything in the minors. Cool bat flip tho QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) Well if you want to see Avi and Sands at DH then i understand. If you want to give up one of our top 3 minor leaguers to get Cargo or Bruce then i understand. And you think we have to give up serious assets for a guy who hasn't seen a major league clubhouse and is ranked like 15th to 20th in their System? Wow they do have a AWESOME system Apprarently, lol. And Schwarber didnt see a major league clubhouse either and that turned out pretty good. I'm saying Voglebach is the 2nd coming but he is attainable without draining our minor leagues. Schwarber raked at every level he stopped at. Not even close to the same

QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) Voglebach is strictly a DH and not a good fielding backup ist baseman. That's all. And I'm not saying he is the answer but he has a good OBP and power and he will come a lot cheaper than any of the other guys like Bruce or Cargo. And HE WILL BE TRADED at some point in his career to a American League team so why not now and why not us? Believe me Theo doesn't care if its the Sox or whoever he just wants the best return. I think he would be great with us and we don't have to sacrifice defense and the minor leagues to acquire him. A Voglebach- Avi lefty/ righty DH combo doesn't sound half bad. With Eaton doing a great job in right Avi really doesn't have a position and i would take Voglebach over him as DH for sure. They are absolutely sacrificing defense with a Vogelbach-Avi DH platoon. Neither of those guys can field their positions competently, and you are removing a bench player like Saladino or Sands who can actually play their positions and hit competently. You act like Vogelbach is a sure thing, just plug and play. This guy hasnt proven anything

QUOTE (MEANS @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) I'm not saying Danks hasn't been crap this year but in his last start he gave up 2 runs.... The funny thing is i felt like last start they were hitting him much harder than the previous start. The offense didnt help at all though, he deserved better only giving up 2 -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) 861 vs. 729 career MILB OPS, Vogelbach vs. Garcia (693 MLB)...pretty appreciable difference You know what else is appreciable? Vogelbach hasnt played above AA except for his 17 games there this season. In fact, he has bounced between rookie ball and AA for the first three years of his minor league career, and really hasnt done anything that makes me say "OH MY GOD WE NEED THIS GUY AS OUR DH/BACKUP FIRST BASEMAN"

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 10:22 PM) Michael Brantley's back with the Indians... Michael Fulmer called up by the Tigers. Also, with the way Justin Upton's struggling with the Tigers, we just MIGHT want to find a DH who has a successful track record hitting in the AL. Jose Berrios got hit pretty hard by the Indians in his debut. But Byung Ho Park very quietly with 5 homers for the Twins (yet another DH candidate we had a shot at). lets see a full season from him before we start pining for him as the guy who got away. The Sox made him look terrible in the sweep up in Minnesota

Estrada goes into the clubhouse between innings twice with some sort of a back shoulder injury and they keep throwing him out there like this game is super important -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 11:26 AM) He very well may be clean. As we've seen too often over the last 20 years or so in MLB, usually when someone starts doing unprecedented things, suspicion has become reality. If you didn't know the situation and learned that a pitcher that flopped in the majors all of a sudden became the best pitcher in the history of the game with the body of a Greek god and was hitting 440 foot homers, I think everyone would start wondering. It's not like people weren't questioning it last season...it's just now it's come out his peers have questioned it also. That's perfectly fair, all I am saying is blaming the baseball media for burying this because OMG CUBS is super f***ing lame. ManRam, Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, Clemens all got rooted out and every one of them was much bigger to the majors at that time than the Cubs are right now. There are always skeptical reporters that start digging when they are suspicious, not all of them follow along like puppies on a leash

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 11:18 AM) This isnt just people, these are other MLB players who are in the same labor union Arrieta is in. You think these guys dont talk? You dont think what happens in the Cubs locker room necessarily stays there? The thing about office gossip is at its core there's almost always a truth, yet here we are with a Cubs-obsessed media willing to walk right past the obvious. Hey man, don't let anything get in the way of your crusade. rage on, fight the power, take the man down *raises fist*

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) It's amazing how many garbage teams the Cubs face on a regular basis. I'm pretty sure the baseball media makes the schedule

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) Just looking at the velocity data, if he was up to no good, it probably started taking place towards the end of the 2012 season. Some pretty big spikes across the board. It is amazing that he's throwing his slider 5-7 mph harder than when he first came into the majors. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/velo.php?pla...16&s_type=2 What has Arrietta said all along about Baltimore forcing him to throw the way they wanted to? All we ever talk about is how his delivery across the body is bad news and is the reason for his success and could be the reason for his downfall. People are gonna believe what they want. Could Arrietta be on the juice? Yea. Does his success indicate that he is on the juice? No
-
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) You mean the sports media that breathlessly fawns over the Cubs all day every day? Joe Maddon could be killing prostitutes in broad daylight in front of Tribune Tower and they'd burying the story. The same media that breathlessly fawned over Sosa until they didn't, yes
-
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) Why is it that when Jake Arrieta is accused of PED use by other players the media is more concerned with Arrieta blowing off those allegations than the fact those allegations were made in the first place. "Jake Arrieta says he's flattered by accusations of PED use" (http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/15388965/jake-arrieta-chicago-cubs-says-flattered-accusations-ped-use).... uhhhh burying the lede much ESPN? I think the bigger story here may that other players, who dont seem to hurl these accusatiosn around all willy nilly, think the reigning Cy Young award winner is on the juice. There isn't much you can do but take reactions and talk about them. JA hasn't tested positive, nothing is linked to him, the only thing we have is his crazy results to go on and make accusations with. I'm sure if there is anything worth investigating, someone is investigating it
