QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) I kinda feel bad that I really don't feel sad about Prince dying. I felt kinda the same way when Bowie and MJ went. It just doesn't really affect me. Nothing wrong with that, if they werent your thing then it is what it is.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 09:21 PM) Another thread was necessary for real QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 08:52 AM) Sox missed their chances last off season. They could have had Dickerson, IMO. Boston, with its sxxtload of prospects, was ripe for a starting pitcher before they signed Price. yea, the Sox didnt do anything to upgrade the offense this offseason. Totally sat on their hands

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 03:32 PM) Hmmm, why do people suddenly pay attention to someone when they die rather than randomly espousing praise all the time? I wasnt aware that I had to randomly espouse praise for every musician i am a fan of in order to make my appreciation of these musicians "more real" when they pass away QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 03:21 PM) I'm not bitter. I'm just pointing out Twitter is annoying with fake praise. And yes, it's fake when it comes to media personalities giving their thoughts on famous people dying. Ric Bucher @RicBucher 51m51 minutes ago Sitting here thinking about the world without Prince, giving thanks we have his music to chase the sadness, hoping he knows how we feel. Because who has thought about Prince in the last 5 years? Anyone? edit: i'm coming from a place akin to what Bill Simmons often says - why don't we celebrate people before they die? Why does someone die and then we spend 3 days acting like they're the most important person ever when the day before they died no one was thinking or saying anything about them? Especially famous people who have been, by and large, out of the public eye for several years. If that dude touched your life and you were a fan, i'm not s***ting on you for saying RIP and it sucks he's gone. It's the over the top, prove to the world i'm more upset than you are, crap that i'm pointing out. And it's all over my Twitter feed right now. If I listen to a musician, am i not celebrating this person? If I watch an actor on TV/in movies, am I not appreciating this person? Does a RIP tweet have to be validated by constant previous praise?

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) Nah I think it's legit when you can make it personal. But the nonsense like this: "Bill Barnwell @billbarnwell 4m4 minutes ago Imagine being as talented at one little thing as Prince was at so many big things." is just feeding an online persona for followers to make yourself look cool and cultured. Barnwell is a white dude from the northeast. He was probably 10 when Prince was at his peak. who cares how old he was, where he was from, or what color his skin is? Just because you didnt grow up in the 70s means you cant appreciate Zeppelin or Floyd when they were peaking? If you arent black you cant appreciate NWA? This is just some of your typical nonsense when something happens and you just want to knock everyone down a peg for appreciating something

Brad Biggs was on the score this morning musing that the Browns will take Elliott at 8 if he is there, to keep the OSU star in state and try and drive up fan interest. Cardale makes sense too but if they take him at 8, well, that is the Browns for you

If i remember correctly, that pen was superterribadawful and going to the Pen was the nuclear option In other words, sticking with Sale was probably the best bet

The Offense
QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 19, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) A year or two ago, someone on this forum cited an article, which refuted the conventional wisdom regarding the importance of "protection" for the best hitters in a lineup. The assertion was that having a good hitter, following a given run producer had little effect on the performance of that hitter. The article provided statistical data to back up the assertion that the entire notion of "protection" for hitters is fallacious. I remember reacting with skepticism. On the one hand the data seemed to prove the hypothesis, but it just didn't make any sense. How could a lineup consisting of just one really dangerous hitter not be adversely affected? Why would opposing teams give that one good hitter anything to hit, when they could easily go around him, and elect to take their chances with the rest of the relatively easy outs, in the lineup? The makeup of this current Sox offense would seem to be a case in point. Why would you give Abreu anything to hit, when you can go around him to face Frazier? If Jose chases bad pitches, which he appears to be doing, you might get him out. If he takes his walk, isn't it better to gamble on getting out the likes of Frazier, Cabrera and Garcia? Melky has been hot, recently but he is not a big home run threat. Until Frazier and, or someone else gets hot, and garners some respect, the best Abreu might be able to do is get on base with a walk, only to be stranded there, as a result of the ineptitude of this pathetic offense. The front office counted on Frazier to be the clean up hitter, to provide protection to Abreu, as well as being a big run producer, in his own right. If he doesn't figure it out soon, this team is going to struggle mightily to score runs. Nobody is denying that if Frazier has a Dunn/Laroche-esque season that the Sox are in trouble. They are only saying its been two weeks so lets stop saying the Sox are in trouble if Frazier has a Dunn/Laroche-esque season over and over. We know
