RIP Muhammad Ali
QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 07:15 AM) Was he the start of the polarizing, made for TV, sports celebrity who managed his career with a knack for publicity or did he just perfect it? I was a big fan even though I never was a huge boxing fan. He transcended the sports world like few athletes have. I would say all of the above.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:59 AM) Well played sir! Mark Its extremely well played. The yankees, who won what, 5 titles in 6 season? Yea, totally the same thing. What has happened to the Braves since that playoff success ended? oh s***, nobody comes to games anymore and they are screwing over cobb county for a new stadium they dont need, and currently have the worst team in the league. What happened to the Indians since their sellout string ended? Oh man, nobody comes to their park anymore either and have had 2 playoff appearances since 2001. None of these teams are capitalizing on this tremendous success that you are touting, and now you want to act like the Sox WS is some sort of an embarrassing burden because it was a fluke. well played indeed QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) By definition, wouldn't Mr. Ozzie Guillen then be a better manager (even while "stone cold" drunk) than Robin Ventura because he's at least shown the ability to win a World Series, which is one more than Robin Ventura has ever won. Following along with this line of logic, Guillen took two teams to the playoffs in the span of five seasons, something you'd have to go back many decades in Sox history to match. Ventura is 0 for 4 and closing in on 0 for 5. Ergo...contract extension? Greg wins! Logic isnt exactly your strong suit. At least, 9 out of 10 times it isnt.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) Great! Eleven years ago. Three World Series appearances in the last 100 YEARS. Hey we're TOTALLY successful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's put it another way, the Miami Marlins have won two World Series in a shorter period of time. Mark Ok, but again the Indians havent won in like 60 plus years, Twins havent won since 91, Detroit since what, 84? Dont come in stumping success for these teams when they havent even grabbed the brass ring in decades. We all want consistent success. Can you read that? WE ALL WANT CONSISTENT SUCCESS. As white sox fans, we all know consistent success has been nonexistent and want it to change. But thanks for pointing out every chance you get that they dont have consistent success. Without you telling me every chance you get, I dont think i would know. Kyle

**SPOILER THREAD** GAME OF THRONES ** SPOILER THREAD **
I have no idea. Didnt really seem to me that would be the brotherhoods style to be marauders like that, they seemed (to me at least) to be the type that would be stealing from kingdoms as opposed to murdering peaceful settlers. But anything i know about them is based on the short couple episodes that they have been in

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:27 AM) I also wonder if Sandor is going to lead us to Catelyn Stark (since their are rumors of her return)...not sure, but wonder if some in his upcoming battle with the brotherhood without banners (I didn't see the preview for next week so I presume he's about to go and fight them all) leads to that. Or if Catelyn will emerge to her brother or Sansa. Wait, that was the brotherhood without banners that killed Brother Ray and that establishment?

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) And by "gutting" their farm system it appears they went to the World Series twice and the playoffs what four times in the last eight years? I'd take that in a New York minute. They took their turn dominating the division much like the Indians in the 90's and the Twins in the 00's and maybe the Royals right now. Geez...I wonder who is missing from that group? Mark How many world series titles do the Twins and Indians and Tigers have? My point was, Caulfield is acting like Detroit only spent money to win, when they didnt spend money until they traded for a transcendent hitter that they could build around, which they did. Your point is, the white sox suck. So thanks for that.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:23 AM) Umm...they traded two, Miller and Cameron Maybin. Drafted Verlander. Traded for Scherzer, that was a huge move. But, just as importantly, Ilitch became willing to spend money on guys like Victor Martinez, Cecil Fielder (turned into Ian Kinsler), Magglio Ordonez, Juan Gonzalez (turned down), Pudge Rodriguez, Carlos Guillen, Fister, overspent to draft Porcello, etc. Authorized more spending on Verlander/Cabrera (perhaps foolishly), Jordan Zimmermann, Upton, etc. Ummm they traded 6. None of the above crazy spending happens without Cabrera, which necessitated gutting their system at the time

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:12 AM) Then how did it happen in Detroit? Ilitch spent the money, built a winner...and then the fans started showing up and became loyal customers. They didn't come out first and buy season ticket packages after having historically some of the worst seasons in franchise history, THEN he authorized spending the money. So we should say it could never happen with the Reinsdorf family still in charge of the team. That's all fine and good, maybe 17-18 franchises work in that same fashion. The other teams prioritize winning first, budgets second. They traded away their top 5 prospects for a once in a generation hitting talent.

QUOTE (Coach @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 06:11 AM) Over the weekend, a Sox reporter stated Erik Johnson will someday be a good pitcher but just not on the White Sox. I asked him why. I am still waiting for an answer. Anyone want to comment? Please feel free. I dont agree with the reporter, but i suppose the reasoning would be that he gets a clean slate with a new team that believes in him. My problem with him is the Sox believed in him and gave him multiple chances that he just couldnt do anything with, and his stuff just disappeared. If he finds his velocity again, maybe he will be a good pitcher. But if he is still throwing his flat fastball 89-91, with mediocre control, he isnt gonna be much of anything.

6/5 - White Sox @ Tigers Game Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) With the sheer amount of wear and tear on his body since 2006, it's remarkable both Verlander and Felix Hernandez are still as effective as they are at this point. The same thing is happening with James Shields. When you throw over 200 innings (unless you're Mark Buehrle) for 9 consecutive seasons, it's going to keep eroding your stuff. It was inevitable physically, except almost no pitcher can make adjustments in their mid to late 30's and emulate Bartolo Colon in reinventing themselves, especially not keeping themselves in tip top physical condition. A gradual decline, sure, but that core muscle injury was a workout injury. That isn't something you can count on as inevitable

6/5 - White Sox @ Tigers Game Thread
I wonder where Verlander would be right now had he not injured his core muscle(s?) a few years ago. It very obviously changed things, it still is a mystery exactly what happened but I bet calisthenics with Kate was the cause.
