QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) There's a lot to summarize. Point out the mistakes in booking by WWE and how Reigns doesn't deserve to be boo'd. He's not like Batista. He's been working on the road for almost 3 years. There's a lot more. I dont think Reigns was being booed as much as Creative was. People wanted refunds and were cancelling because of the decision making, not because of Reigns. He just happened to be the sacrificial lamb.

I dont think forcing a guy to speak in front of the media who clearly has problems with it is the right way to go. Some guys have anxiety disorders about things like this, and some of them thrive on it. Expecting Lynch to start talking like Sherman by forcing him to take questions isnt really a good way to handle business. -
White Sox and ticket sales, an inside look

QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) If they are really "all in" this season and want to draw some crowds, they can do a few things IMO. It's time to have a concert going on outside the stadium before games, all games. Doesn't need to be a huge band, or any specific genre, just a band or DJ who can play good music and give fans something else to do before a game. The better the bands, the better the draw. There are plenty of musicians and local bands who would love to play outside a White Sox game on game night. Then they can also go around handing out White Sox swag to fans in the tailgate lots. Send some White Sox alumni out there with the swag to give autographs and take pictures. Doesn't need to be Paul Konerko or Frank Thomas, I'd be plenty happy seeing Chris Widger or Hank Perry walking around talking with fans. Make it consistent so people go there expecting to run into White Sox alumni. They can also have ticket reps walking the grounds with White Sox Swag to give away and an IPad to help take orders on special Tailgate only ticket specials. Example - A ticket rep may have a special tailgate lot ticket package for you and 7 friends to go to any weekday game (minus blackout dates), lower level, for $100 total. Crazy deals that have to be bought on spot at that time. Sell some urgency and the good feeling of White Sox baseball during tailgate. Then they can team up with sponsors to make tickets worth something after a game. Get a % off good or services the next day after attending a White Sox game, depending on Runs scored. Example - If the White Sox score 5 runs, and win, that gives you 10% off at (Sponsor) on the date following the game with ticket stub shown. If they score 2% and lose,it's 2% off the following date. Something like that to give the ticket extra value. Just a few of my thoughts. Go Sox. Pretty sure they already have this. They show the band pretty frequently during games and in the pre game camera walk into the park. There is a little pop up band-shell near the outside concessions and t shirt vendors -
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) Good. I don't need to see his shlong anymore and feel depressed. lol. it was pretty funny when "Kiss by a Rose" by Seal played, though. I was talking with my wife the other day about how they ruined Karens character a bit too quick.

I think the actor that plays Jody is probably gone, given how busy he is with Black Sails at the moment. Maybe a part time spot here and there, but I dont think he would come back for good.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) Ugh, thanks, I was hoping it was something more material than this. I agree with your opinion. Law has very much become supportive of the Sox in a number of different ways since Hahn has taken the GM spot. I don't know if Law had a bias against KW or a bias towards the more "new school" front office types but he's definitely changed his tune. It's worth noting that our system was utter trash from '08-'12. Before Dick Allen comes at me, yes, he was conservative on Abreu but the media was almost uniformly tepid on Abreu. Side note - I hate how talking about Law objectively makes me seem like a Law fanboy because his fanboys are lame. "Keith how did your cinnamon, gluten-free scallops turn out? Hope you enjoy your lunch today!" his "scouting" of Chris Sale was embarrassing. I believe he said all of his offspeed pitches were average or below average, specifically his slider -
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 10:47 AM) His challenge is having a excellent wrestling promotion and not get lazy and keep a audience, which he has failed at. Pro wrestling was drawing a 9.0 rating combined during Monday Night war. Today RAW gets a 3.0 rating VKM is touting that as a great week. Where did all those fans go not to WWE, they quit watching wrestling period. So you are saying that Vince does his best work when there is a legitimate challenge from another promotion? Weird, thats what i was thinking and saying too
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 09:22 AM) VKM has had a challenge since WCW closed and failed badly overall. Ratings are half what they were in 2006 today. Authority angle running since 1997 it's 2015. VKM trying to force Reigns down fans throat like he did Cena no dice. The WWE Network interview with Stone Cold showed how out of touch he is with today's audience. VKM best days are long gone. I assume you mean he has NOT had a challenge since they bought WCW? Which is exactly my point
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) Amen..............truly is simple as that. VKM needs to go. I dont even totally agree with this. VKM needs a challenge

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) It certainly could have been done differently but I don't think as a result of a poorly put together match that everyone should hate and boo Reigns. I think you are missing the point here, which is that Reigns is not ready and the fans know it. This is two years in a row that he has been annointed through the rumble, and the second time around the magic is gone. He is no longer the Shield powerhouse, the anti hero. Now everyone sees him as the guy that WWE is obviously trying to put on top, and there are more worthy names for that title. Reigns may take the next step sometime in the next couple years and round out his mic game, but it is not there right now. What does it say when the Rock cant even put you over?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 02:48 PM) How much do ticket sales ultimately drive the payroll these days (after you back out the lease costs, vendor costs, etc)? I don't know the answer, but actual ticket sales are becoming a much smaller component of the revenue equation, right? I'd be curious on the percentage. Bruce Levine was hosting hit and run last weekend and he was talking about how each team gets 78 million dollars from the league TV deal, before anything else(local sponsorships, local TV deals, ticket and merchandise revenue). So if that's true, you would think that they should be ok even in down years
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) It didn't matter how strong Reigns looked, he was getting booed to hell. So the solution is to put him in a situation where it is painfully obvious that he was winning and generate bad heat? Come on, it's ok to call a spade a spade here. That was a s*** ending to further a terrible storyline that they are death marching to the finish
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) I have to fully disagree with this. Reigns eliminating a top baby face would have been nuclear heat on him. WWE did the best they could, they threw in 2 guys not even smarks could cheer for over Reigns (Kane and Show) and an anti American. It still didn't work. We'd rather side with Vladimir Putin than Roman Reigns. No way, if Bryan makes it to top four and the finale is good, reigns comes out looking strong. They eliminated the best possible contestant before he even got a chance I certainly don't feel that it was the best they could do, not even close

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 11:59 PM) How does a failed drug test include alcohol? Makes no damn sense. Outside of his problems with weed, hasn't he had at least 2 DUIs? -
QUOTE (South Sider @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) This idea is going to be very unpopular, but i actually appreciate that its been brought up. Im going to play devils advocate here, but ive actually thought of this myself... Extreme defensive shifts to me seem ridiculous. To me, the whole idea of a 3rd basemen is that hes covering the area around 3rd base. To see a 3rd basemen literally playing 2nd base, and a short stop playing.... 1st and 1/2 base and your 2nd basemen playing right field... when theres already someoene playing right field just seems ridiculous to me. I appreciate the strategic aspect of shifts and since theyre legal i expect them to be deployed... but let me just say i dont hate this idea as much as everyone else will. You fill out your lineup card for the umpires to inform them that such and such player is playing 3rd base. To me, having that player literally play 2nd base seems like it should be illegal and warrant a lineup switch. I mean, if a manager really wanted to, he could place any player in any part of the field. Need your right fielder around 3rd base? Ok go for it. Need your 1st basemen to cover 3rd for some reason? Ok. Not that those things would ever happen... but the point is that they can legally move players into other fielding positions without having to change your lineup. That just doesnt seem right. Excited to read some responses. If a player like Ortiz or Dunn hits a ball regularly to a very defined part of the infield and outfield, why shouldn't the team be allowed to defend that? I just don't get it. Sometimes those extreme shifts get burned by good hitters that go the other way or even weak ground balls that go where the 3b used to be, and turn into doubles. Forcing teams to play defense a certain way is pretty crappy if you ask me

A good thing about this is that this is a real, money reaction to a show that really crashed hard after an excellent triple threat match. In the past WWE could just laugh and say "well, they will buy the next PPV because they want to see what happens next. ". But it doesn't work that way anymore. Fans are outraged, and if they really cancelled a large portion of subscriptions, that kind of s*** shakes things up almost as much as a wcw type competitor in a Monday night wars. If anything, the writers will have to step up their game in the next two months and try and patch this thing together until Mania
