  1. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 06:58 PM) new word? It is a pill developed by Novartis for shortage of pitching
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) Dan Bernstein was talking about Buehrle yesterday, saying that he's having a typical Buehrle season so far. He's just getting run support so the Wins are coming. Forget about wins, he has 10 quality starts in which he's averaged 7 innings and a 1.53 ERA, That's not typical. Now he could have a Verlander type month where he can't get anyone out, but for now, anyone who doesn't think Buehrle is a top-2 or 3 Cy this season, is an idiot. And don't get me started on Pitching WAR. Complete nonsense. I was listening to this discussion yesterday as well, did you hear the guy who called in and pointed out Tulo's (RIDONKULOUS) home and away splits when Bernstein was talking about how Tulo is having a way better season than Alexei? It was quite funny to hear the wind get taken out of Bernsteins sails. Hard for him to argue Tulo when he is so bad on the road, even when he is so insane at home(cough*coors field*cough)
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:10 PM) I'm just sick of people acting like there's something wrong with Buerhle cause he's "not an ace" when there are VERY FEW aces in baseball year in and out. This is true, but it is funny that when you make that previous statement, that you pointed out someone who IS an ace year in year out. Cliff Lee is a stud
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) I'm getting closer to buying a wii u over a ps4 with all of these mario kart reviews. But I know in the end it's going to be a waste of money. For my gaming habits, which are limited these days, it's basically 2 mario games, mario kart, and maybe, maybe the zelda game if it's amazing (which the reviews will all say it is, despite the last couple being lame and boring). I'm torn. Obviously I enjoy MK8 and most Mario offerings, but I am hoping this E3 brings some big announcements. A few rumors have Retro announcing a new Metroid, some more new Zelda gameplay, and some possibilities like Starfox and whatever solo Mario project is in the works. They are gonna livestream a Smash Bros competition with the top 20 players in the world during E3, I am gonna drop in and watch a little bit. Im not much of a fighter game guy, but it is fun to watch those who know what they are doing. I think there will be some news on Yoshis Yarn and Monoliths "X" project as well.
  5. I think they go BPA, it will be whichever of Aiken, Kolek, and Rodon is on the board. Nola would be the safe pick, but i dont think they go safe
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 08:15 AM) Well that and apparently his strikeout rate is the same as Courtney Hawkins's. lol, he seems like his homerun rate matches his strikeout rate though
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 08:12 AM) Fair enough. I'm sure Balta got a kick out of it, though. It was not pleasant to watch. I even felt bad when the challenge was won
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 08:09 AM) The MLB.com highlight picks up at the time that Abreu first has the ball, and before Ramirez ends up throwing to 3B to try to pick off Gonzalez (and that's only because the initial call was reversed that it was a highlight in the first place). So all I'm seeing is a very hesitant Abreu running the baserunner a long ways in the wrong direction and seeming very indecisive about how long to hold onto the ball....hot potato feeling. So you missed the beginning of the play, where it got messed up to begin with. Beckham put Abreu in a bad spot, he didnt really force the runner back, and gave it to Abreu and forced him to come up the line after the runner. Of course he was hesitant, he shouldnt have been there to begin with
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 11:24 PM) Who is an ace and how many teams have had them?? Shields, for example, is no more an ace than Buehrle. How many teams have aces? I guarantee you not many, or you could argue that many guys you might pick are not aces. Remember Cliff Lee? Some years he was an ace; some years he sucked. I contend there are not many clear cut aces in baseball since Buehrle emerged as a stellar pitcher. Which years were these? After he came up for good and had his 22-3 season, he was pretty damn good
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 07:53 AM) Well, yeah. Baseball 101. Run the baserunner back towards the base he came from, and don't give it up too early. And simultaneously watch the runner at 3rd from the corner of your eye and make sure he doesn't break for home. Should always be no more than 2 throws and a tag. Abreu shouldn't have kept following the runner while meandering in slow motion towards 2B, but Beckham and Ramirez are veterans and need to set the example for the rest of the team to follow. Did you actually see the play? Because Abreu really wasnt at fault for what happened. The runner froze in front of Gordon and forced Abreu to chase him to begin the rundown after Gordon threw the ball
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 04:41 AM) Might want to have a refresher course on those rundown plays again. Abreu looks really shaky out there. Abreu? Everyone looked shaky there, starting with Beckham and ending with Alexei inexplicably throwing to third
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 10:32 PM) The idea is to get deep in the count so the pitcher throws you a good hitter's pitch. You're a lot more likely to get a good pitch 3-1 than on 1-1. I have always been aggressive. The longer I am up, the more I overthink it. It works for me though
  13. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 05:55 PM) The real question is: where will the Sox hang out tomorrow? My goal is to find Gordon Beckham, steal a lock of his hair, and start a cult. Baconation
  14. i think I walk maybe once or twice a season. Hell, i would bet i am a first pitch swinger more than 80% of the time
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 12:31 PM) I think if you went back to that thread, you would see Marty's thinking isn't unique. Many figured the more money the Sox threw in, the better prospect coming back. They took all of Rios' money. IMO, I doubt they had a prospect $5 million or more better than Leury that they would have been willing to kick in if the Sox had agreed to pay part of the contract. Paying several million for someone maybe a tad better prospect than Leury seems like a waste to me. There were a lot of people who thought Rios was going to bring back a top prospect. No, because he went after the trade deadline. Any player he was traded for was going to have to clear waivers, and top prospects arent gonna clear waivers. Once Rios didnt go before the July deadline, we knew that he wasnt going to command a big haul
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) It's all speculation. What is taken for a fact around here is that dealing Rios and his contract enabled the Sox to sign Abreu. by you. You just intimated that if the Sox kicked in more money, than a bigger prospect/player than Eaton could have been acquired.
  17. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 11:29 AM) If the Sox had kicked in more money . . . If the Sox kicked in more money? What does this even mean? You have no idea what any offer or counter offer was.
  18. Alright. whatevs. I dont feel that the university image is disrespectful of my heritage as much as the Redskins are to Native Americans. I dont feel the Fighting Sioux are either, but that isnt my heritage and I certainly couldnt speak for any Sioux
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) There really isn't any difference between the Fighting Sioux and the Fightin' Irish. Did the Sioux start the University? Because ND was founded by the Irish Catholic, whom I assume chose the name.
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 09:15 AM) As a fat person I find that offensive. Time to start a petition. As an irishman, i am starting my own so i can take down Notre Dame.
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 08:36 AM) But there wasn't because it's ridiculous, like that analogy. Changing from the Bullets to the Wizards to get away from a violent ideology would've been more suitable. If every school or team changes their Indian mascot names, fine, but why is Washington being singled out? Pretty much all of the HS level teams and a good portion of the college level teams have changed their names, with exceptions being like Florida State because of their relationship with the Seminole tribe. Washington is being singled out because they are resisting and saying nothing is wrong with is because it has been around a long time, which as previously stated is a terrible reason. Plus, Dan Snyder is as subtle as a tack hammer and has handled this situation terribly at every turn. I mean, he basically has used the "I have black friends" defense.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 08:12 AM) Using the phrase "lesser talented" is a bit dangerous. Moss is 8th in the majors in OPS, Seth Smith (the quintessential A's player, even though he's now on the Padres) is 9th and Donaldson is 16th but 2nd in WAR to Tulowitzki. He spent a majority of his career in Colorado
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 07:58 AM) For now. I think the writing is on the wall for the Sox to be elsewhere after 2015 with the Cubs going to 670. The musical chair dance back to ESPN1000
