QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 11:35 PM) It's been his unofficial board nickname since his rookie year. Kyyle and I concocted it. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...p;#entry2607049 Feathered Serpent*, Flying works as well. shack has been an integral part of the naming process as well. You guys ran with the penis blood That sounds bad, but there is really no other way to put it

Slow pitch softball thread
Softball Thursday woot woot QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) I am subbing in a pretty serious 16" league tonight for a double header. I have never played other than in gym class in high school which was a joke. I was a varsity high school baseball player so I am not worried about keeping up but is there any little nuances or rule differences that a beginner would miss? And as far as the swing, does your swing vary from the traditional baseball swing? Thanks in advance!! Just concentrate on hitting it square. Mis-hit 16" balls don't go very far

NCAA basketball 2014-15 thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 10:56 PM) No offense, but SIU was in such a shambles you have to wonder why Barry took that job. Is there any way in hell he can turn that program back around? You guys got any good players yet under Barry? You should look into his previous job at MSU. Barry took that job because he needed a job as much as the Salukis needed a coach QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 05:52 AM) He's already turning it around. Kyle, Rowand, and myself talk about it right here every year. In fact we are thinking about starting our own web based show or podcast with weekly staples such as "What else could Lowery screw up?" and "What job is Torres Roundtree holding this week?". Gonna be huge! I hate lowery so much

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) Some people really need to be careful what they post to their social media. https://www.facebook.com/hector.santiago.75...701237283245381 He seems like the last person who would post something like that

Instant Replay
QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 11:10 AM) I feel like I've seen just as many calls either changed or confirmed wrong with instant replay. I don't think the calls are more right at all. If anything, the calls they seem to be changing often are the neighborhood play calls. Do you really want those enforced? to be honest, the neighborhood play was getting beyond ridiculous. That doesnt bother me at all, guys were being called out when the defender wasnt within 3 steps of the bag

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 10:58 AM) Be prepared then for several more years of living in the depths of the AL Central Why, because Beckham is elevating the Sox above it?

Expectations: Jose Abreu
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 10:22 AM) The guy has pretty much hit or exceeded all of these predictions... at the All-Star break. Considering the contract that Miguel Cabrera has, Jose Abreu has to be joining Chris Sale as the biggest bargains in baseball. The crazy thing is that the mocking predictions have more or less become realistic.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 09:12 AM) I don't think it was about disagreeing with his politics, I think it was just him being so outspoken was becoming a "distraction" in their eyes. He plays one of the least important positions. He was getting older, his salary was increasing, which made him much easier to replace for football reasons. As he challenged politicans and spoke to every media outlet and was loud on social media, I think the team just said, enough, you are a punter, stop bringing all this extra attention to the team. We will bring someone in at half the salary and at least 90% of the production and they will be much quieter. And all of this is fine, this sort of thing happens, players get cut for being distractions and declining skills. The Priefer stuff is what is wrong and unnacceptable, though.

Expectations: Jose Abreu
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 07:55 AM) I still like my prediction . Optimistic about when the weather heats up tempered with the length of the season compared to the Cuban league. still like it?

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 08:16 AM) yes, but when you take into account the number of games played, the age of the player, and the trend lines. Which would you like more, a guy who plays 25 minutes for 50 games and is very effective or a guy who is a solid player who gives you 35/80? There is a lot more to his PT than just injuries. D'Antonio refused to play him correctly and tried to make him into a midrange shooter, and sat him a lot due to him not fitting into the system. I think Pau has plenty left in the tank. He isnt the same Pau that won championships with the Lakers, but he hasnt had that far of a drop off.

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 07:46 AM) If everything went right with one of those guys then I'd prefer them to Love. But...the reason why Love stands out is that as of recent years, things have gone wrong with those guys that haven't gone wrong for Love. Fair statement? Well, to be fair, 4th quarters and playoffs have not gone right for Love. Love is an odd case, he is tremendously talented of course, but he hasnt shown that he can raise the level of play around him. There was a lot of talk of stat padding this offseason. But it is hard to tell because of the team around him. I want to see him on a playoff chasing team. Just, not Cleveland.
