  1. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) Byrd was claimed before Jose went down. There was no way the Sox were going to claim Byrd when Contreras was coming back. On top of it, Contreras has been the better pitcher this year anyway. I thought Byrd passed through waivers. Maybe I'm getting some bad information.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) It feels like we're simply just giving this game away in order to keep Carrasco in the bullpen. That or we're just cheap and/or stubborn.
  3. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) Stop bringing up Byrd. It didn't make any sense at the time. Say what?
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) What a joke....the problem is that Carrasco's going to end up throwing 4 innings anyways today. The joke is KW saying Broadway is better than Byrd or Washburn.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) That statement has nothing to fall back on. Except a short attention span.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 12:39 AM) I don't think anyone foresaw Crede's back injury lingering as long as it has nor Contreras blowing out his achilles (but if you did see that, you should have let him know about it...maybe just give him a shove and a nod about not covering first on that particular play). No, no. The predictions were made after it became clear Crede had more back pain following his rehab start and would be out indefinately. In regards to Contreras, if you're were basing this team's chances on an ancient pitcher with an injury history, a sore elbow, and batting practice stuff over his last 2 months of pitching, you are even more insane than I thought.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) It woulda been nice to take 3-4 versus Boston Frankenstein but that's no easy task. We really need to sweep KC. I don't think it's easy to sweep anybody though, especially a team we've played so much of late. Royals certainly don't fear us. We need to keep Butler quiet. He's hit a few bombs the second half and is hitting much better aside from an oh for 5 the other day. I know winning a 4 game series against Boston was no easy task but people here were predicting us blazing through this home stretch like it's no problem: 4.5 game leads at the end of the month, expecting an 8-2 homestand record, etc. This just isn't a very good team right now.
  8. So through our 7 game homestand, we're 4-3. The Twins play 6 of 7 on the road and go 4-3 in that same stretch. Wasn't this supposed to be our magical stretch of home games where we blow the Twins out of the water? So yeah, 4.5 game lead here we come!
  9. Dotel not wasting time that inning. Very nice. Please get some insurance.
  10. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Does anybody remember the last time we won a game comfortably? It seems forever since we have had an "easy" win. Floyd's start in Minny?
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) BTW, how old is that girl who was singing? She does the National Anthem often, and I have a comment to make, but want to make sure she's 18. Didn't see her singing but a preface like that is always a winner.
  12. Thank you. I am going to keep this game turned off because nothing good happens when I'm watching. Seriously, when I've had it on the Red Sox outscored us 5-1.
  13. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:34 PM) nice left handed relief out of the pen the last two days. But hey Kenny, we got junior, so it's all good. And we're home now!
  14. I am turning this game off. No need to take 5 years off my life.
  15. Varitek much better against LHP than RHP.
  16. Not having those extra runs is going to hurt.
  17. Nasty. White Sox-like AB from Lowell there.
  18. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:01 PM) I'd much rather have my .313 hitter swing away then give himself up in the 5th inning. You don't have unlimited outs. You have 27. Why are you throwing them away in the 5th inning for the possibility to score 1 run? Wait, we have a .313 hitter in our lineup?
  19. Another AB where we fail w/ runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs. Jesus.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) Bunting prior to the 7th inning in the AL is just ignorant, in my humble opinion. It depends on the pitching matchup, teams involved, who the hitter is, etc. I don't think you can make a blanket statement like that. I didn't have a problem with the bunt in that situation. AJP has been really bad lately. It got us to Dye with the bases juiced and 1 out. I will take that everytime.
