  1. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:21 PM) AL teams that win the first game are 12-14 in the ALDS. It's utterly bizzare, but true. Well, I'll be damned. Go Rays!
  2. Anyone know the number of teams that came back to win the ALDS after losing the first game? I've heard yesterday that NL teams won 24 of 27 series after winning the first game.
  3. Reynolds: "I think Vazquez is in trouble right now" Ya think? He's in trouble as soon he's out there to pitch.
  4. Probably wouldn't of got him but Jesus... did my heart stop on that play.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Shields is basically having the game Blackburn and the Twins pitcher who pitched the first game in the dome had, throwing average pitches and the Sox are basically letting him off the hook That is like every other game pitched against the Sox.
  6. Might be a while until we hit another homer to score a run.
  7. I hate Vazquez but I'd keep him around because he's a guy who can throw 200 innings. With two young guys coming off a career high in IP, I think we should keep him around. Unless there's someone else we can sign but I doubt there will be someone comparable available.
  8. Well, I was obviously wrong about the Twins winning this division. And the Sox won it in very impressive fashion, probably playing their best game of the season. But I am still going to stick with my main contention: that the Sox aren't on the same level as the other AL playoff teams. I would like nothing better than to be horribly wrong again...
  9. I've received this message: Tickets are currently not available online for one of the following reasons. Please check back for availability. Tickets may not be on sale yet. Tickets may not be available at this time. More tickets may become available later. Tickets may not be available online just hours before an event occurs. On rare occasions, tickets may only be available at ticket outlets or the box office.
  10. I was flamed for suggesting this earlier in the year, but I'd take Freddy Garcia over Vazquez pretty easily. Granted, he was facing the White Sox but still...
  11. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) From Jason Stark: My question would be how many of those teams were still involved in pennant races? I'd guess that most of them were probably resting players and didn't care about winning their remaining games. Could be wrong, of course.
  12. The only people I see gone are Cabrera, Crede, and Griffey. Then possibly Anderson. I don't see where or how we could trade Konerko, Thome, Vazquez, or Dye (i.e. the most logical guys you'd like to dump from the roster). The combination of big money, no trade clauses, and crappy performances means they'll be difficult to move. Swisher is a guy who would be easy to trade, but then KW's ego won't let him dump Swisher so quickly and for a much smaller return than what Williams gave the A's. I think this team won't change much. 2009 might get ugly.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 08:06 PM) I think he will finally realize, like he did with spending money on the bullpen last offseason, that there is a reason for prototypical lead off guys. He knows how important they are. I don't think there is any way possible he tries to stick a guy that doesn't belong there in that position again. The problem isn't him realizing the importance of the lead-off hitter, it's having the resources to acquire one. I'm having a hard time thinking of anyone that will be available.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) The White Sox have to get more speed next year, and will need a lead off guy. They need to keep power. You need power at USCF. It seems like we've been talking about adding a lead off guy every year. Other than Pods in 05, we've never had a lead off guy. My guess we won't end up with anybody good at that position. I don't think Williams has much flexibility in improving this team.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) I disagree...we'll see at least 3 new offensive starters. Yeah, but you're going to have 2 new guys replacing Crede and Cabrera. I don't think any of Konerko/Thome/Dye/Swisher are getting traded.
  16. I'd bet there won't be that many changes other than the free agents being gone. The core of this team is still going to be our crappy, aging power hitters.
  17. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 06:37 PM) You're crazy... This team doesn't deserve to go to the playoffs. If they happen to back in, it's just 3 more days of embarrassment.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) Whether we win or not. These things need to happen... 1. Vazquez - traded 2. Cabrera - let go of 3. Swisher - traded 4. Thome - bought out Put Dye at DH and sign some guy from free agency. Trade for a pitcher or sign somebody not named Garland. Hope Linebrink can pitch next year. I'd bet only 1 of those is going to happen.
  19. I don't really see why people are still getting mad at this point. This team making the playoffs isn't going to make me feel better about their season. It's actually a little embarassing if they do.
  20. Maybe one of our resident soxtalk experts can call me out again for being too negative about this team all season. Just goes to show what a s***ty team it's been all along.
  21. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) The Baltimore makeup game hurts like hell. Really, Ozzie, Horaico Ramirez to pitch a third inning? Everyone and their mother knew he was going to give up runs. How many games did we blow against Tampa this season? Was it 4? I know we lost 2 games @Tampa where we had numerous chances to get guys in from 3rd with less than 2 out. Couldn't do s*** and ended up losing on walkoffs. Couple of those games @Toronto were like that too.
  22. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) We gave away so many games this year. And each time it happened, we were told it was just one game. It's biting us in the ass now, isn't it? Yup, and it's usually the same brigade of people. Same s*** happened in 2006.
  23. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) I disagree. We're just getting older and s***tier, and there's no way the other teams in the Central are going to fall apart in another fluke fashion next season. If we were going to go down to the very last game of the season to lose it, I'd rather have just done terrible the entire year. That way, we'd get a good draft pick and we'd turn to rebuilding (which we should). I agree with you on a lot. When bringing up our 4 guys, do people realize how many guys the Twins have who are good and under 27? It's basically a full roster. I will disagree about the Central. I'm not too concerned with Detroit and Cleveland. So the Sox can still be competitive in this division next season. However, this division sucks ass. I want the Sox to compete against Boston, New York, Tampa, and the Angels. I think we're long ways away from doing that.
