  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 01:07 AM) This is one of the most ridiculous posts I have seen on here in a good long while. F*** it, let's just miss the playoffs because we'll probably get swept anyways, right? Well, I was never one to buy lottery tickets. I've barely posted over the last 2.5 weeks, a stretch in which the Sox have gone 7-11 and won only 1 out of their last 6 series. I guess I should have posted during that non-existant 10 game winning streak. Yup, damn good ball. 1 series win in their last 6. I never made any specific predictions, only said the Twins would beat the White Sox for the division. And you weren't more right about anything. Hopefully you have some more amusing predictions you'll share with us.
  2. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:02 PM) What a naive post. Do you have any idea the ramifications making the playoffs has on a team? Merchandise sales, hanging a division banner, media coverage, ect. Ask Boyer how much easier his job would be in the off-season if the Sox made the playoffs and got their ass kicked. It may not matter to you, because you chose not to care, but to a franchise, it's incredibly important, and would be celebrated by the organization, just like it would for the other 29 teams. I think you are confusing a World Series with a division title. How many division titles have the Twins won? What about the Indians last season? Neither team did much to increase payroll after those division titles and I wouldn't say their attendance improved significantly. Sure, there are benefits to winning the division but it's hyperbole to say it's "incredibly important." I think the fact the White Sox were competetive throughout the season is enough for them in terms of merchandise sales and media coverage.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:16 PM) It would be nice to see this team make the playoffs. Making the playoffs and losing 30-0 in 3 games is better than any scenario in which the team doesn't make the playoffs. You also never know when ownership will decide to slash payroll in the offseason. I guess that's where we differ. It makes no difference to me if we make the postseason and get routed or not make it at all. As far as the payroll stuff, making the playoffs and having revenue from one game won't make a difference if ownership really wants to cut payroll.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) I sure sleep a lot better at night when the Sox have a 1 game lead compared to being out a game and trying to figure out where they'll make the game up. From my perspective, this team isn't winning the World Series so I could give a s*** what their record is in relation to the Twins. You've said yourself the Sox don't have a shot at winning the World Series without CQ. What's the point of worrying about the standings when you know it doesn't matter in the end?
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:02 PM) Think on the bright side...we're still up 1 game! A week ago, that seemed to be a huge lead. I don't even want to think of how we'd be if the Sox were 1 game out. It'd be the exact same. WTF is the difference? Who cares if we're up 1 or down 1 now? Are you excited about this team's prospects going forward?
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) Wait until Tony sees this one. I just want this team to make the playoffs. Not for one second has it seemed like this is the White Sox's year to win the World Series. With Quentin, I would have felt they were capable of getting hot at the right time (see 2006 Cards team). I still thought they were below the 3 other AL playoff teams with Quentin. Without Quentin, they're probably 7th best AL team. I don't think this team can beat good pitching without Q.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:47 PM) Not until the Twins are ahead of us in the standings. However, I felt like the season ended with Konerko's injury from a psyche standpoint. What? The season ended with CQ's injury assuming you had winning the World Series as your goal. Backing into the playoffs isn't anything to write home about.
  8. So AL teams better than the White Sox: Boston Tampa NYY Toronto Minnesota LAA
  9. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 07:58 PM) A four man rotation would potentially kill Danks and maybe Floyd. I agree. There's no sense in doing that. This team's chances at winning anything meaningful went out the window with Quentin's injury. Even with Konerko, this would be a horrible idea.
  10. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) Who said we'd be fine without Quentin. I think everybody know that it woudl be really tough to win without him. Not what I read in the Sunday game thread.
  11. Yup, we'll be just fine without Quentin. This team is brutal. It would probably get its ass kicked by the NL playoff teams.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 7, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) The other top AL teams aren't anything special. Then what does that make the Sox? All those teams are better.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 7, 2008 -> 03:51 PM) Bad loss....no more of these joke lineups. Fields is just terrible at baseball now, I don't think his heart is actually in it. I really don't think this team is doing anything without Quentin. I guess they can luck out by backing into the playoffs if Minnesota plays as poorly as they have. They are outclassed against the other top AL teams.
  14. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 7, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) I'm going to let it slide. He only comes around when the Sox are down, and I don't expect that to happen very often down the stretch, so he shouldn't be around much. Yeah, I've been posting a lot during our very successful 2 week stretch on the road.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 7, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) That's got to be a yellow flag and a personal foul. They always catch the second guy.
  16. QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 7, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) his stuff may not be 100% but hes painting corners at 91...ill gladly take that It's fine if you're looking for another decent bullpen arm. But we're looking to get back our main 8th inning setup guy. I don't think you can count on him to be that dominant pitcher from earlier in the season.
  17. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 7, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) Hey, Frankensteiner is here! Hey, and I hope you leave.
  18. So much for "losing Quentin won't be so bad if get Linebrink back" because Linebrink looks like trash with his floating 90mph fastball.
  19. Could you imagine where we'd be right now without that 4.5 game lead at the end of August?
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 10:34 PM) With Boston looking like dung lately and their best players playing with injuries, that WC very well could come out of the AL Central. I agree although I wouldn't say they're playing like dung. 7-3 over their last 10 isn't bad at all. Ortiz seems to be getting back to form. They do have a difficult schedule so it's very possible. Our Fenway series against them will loom large in this discussion.
  21. I don't know about Uribe > Crede. Joe Crede from Apr-May-Jun was pretty good, even with the errors. He was really bad in July but the back problems might have already started at that point. If he's close to his early season form upon his return (pretty big IF), I'd take Crede over Uribe. Not a huge fan of Crede, but I'll take the better offensive player at a corner position.
  22. Swisher with an .779 OPS right now. Might even finish at .800+ which would be impressive given his general suckiness for much of the season.
  23. I am trying to decide what was more impressive, the Sox pounding Felix or Richard shutting down the Mariners? I'd go with Richard... didn't see that coming at all.
  24. CQ's OPS after the ASB has to be pretty insane. HBP count towards one's OBP, correct?
  25. Very nice day of baseball, indeed. Was glad to see us take care of business in a game we had to get given tomorrow's pitching matchup. BTW, Clayton Richard has no f'n business starting a game for the White Sox this season. It's ridiculous starting him tomorrow in a tight pennant race against Felix Hernandez. At least Broadway has been competent in his start, even if it was just smoke and mirrors.
