  1. Can someone explain what Dye did? With as much disdain as possible plz...
  2. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 01:48 PM) What would you guys think of an offseason that brought back Pods or Thome super cheap.....brought in Holliday...and addressed the pen in no way at all? With Rios here, we are not going to tie up that much money with Holliday imo.
  3. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) I will say this...if Pods keeps being THIS bad in OF, you will see Dye and Thome both back. The FA market sucks this yr so maybe we try to just go one more year with each. Obviously Dye's option is huge but if there's really nothing else they want to spend on, it's conceivable. And then you can cash in with a trade later on. Also, thatd be the kind of offseason that, sadly, is fanbase friendly. You open up the possibility that way of the enticing 1.Bacon 2.AR 3.Thome 4.Quentin 5. Dye 6.AJP 7.Konerko 8. Rios 9. Getz Your best hitter gets the most atbats and Alexei gets his fastballs again. When you break everything down and look at all possibilities, bringing back the geriatrics brigade is probably the best option. But it still doesn't make it hurt any less looking at that lineup for another season. Also, Alex Rios is one expensive #8 hitter...
  4. QUOTE (SnB @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) without looking it up, i'm pretty sure the sox have done fairly well in oakland since about '04. When was the mags fog game? You are probably right but there seems to be at least one game a year in Oakland where we either lose late or in some boneheaded fashion. I remember Kurt Suzuki walk-off game last year, for example. And who can forget Dye at SS? That was probably during '05.
  5. The Metrodome West. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we win more than one game.
  6. BTW, I think those Petco home vs away splits are a bunch of crap. I believe most pitchers are better at home than on the road anyway, regardless of the park (save maybe Coors). Look at Buehrle, Danks, and Floyd this season.
  7. Is this the first time AJ's catching Contreras since Jose came up from the minors?
  8. Our attempts at re-arranging the rotation are always comical. How I wish it were Jose starting this game.
  9. Baker has been hit around this year so we can still come back. We have to get some good ABs from the middle of the lineup.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) Yep, 3.5 back at the ASB with Quentin supposed to join the team next week. Yeah, I'm so happy right now I can't believe it!!!
  11. I am still pissed with Ozzie's rotation juggling. We could have won Thursday's game against a crappy Cleveland pitcher with Danks pitching. A bird in-hand is better than two in the bush. Instead we got nothing. Danks has struggled against the Twins, especially in Minnesota (6.19 ERA), so it wasn't as if we were really giving ourselves some favorable matchup. Richard would have been fine pitching in our regularly scheduled Metrodome losses to the Twins.
  12. Why wouldn't we just start Danks on regular rest? Might as well try and go for the easier win today. Danks wasn't very good against Minny last season anyway.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:34 AM) Last I checked you pretty much always have to play great to get in to the postseason. Not last year. We played well the last two games of the season, but otherwise we basically managed to stay at the top of the division because Minny was even worse than we were down the stretch.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) There is no way I'd give up anything close to that package for Halladay. We're better off with the kids and the money to go spend on FA's. What FAs do you want to buy? Because the upcoming free agent market looks terrible. Give me Halladay any day of the week.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 11:24 PM) Anybody counting on anything from Podsednik beyond this year is foolish. I think even the front office knows that. I could still see him being brought back, but they better have a good alternative in mind if they do. Also, this team is starting to turn into something fun. I'm happy. And Gavin Floyd's ERA down to 4.12, and I was never worried. Gavin's good. The alternative is giving Figgins a truck load of money. I don't know if that's a good alternative, but it's the only alternative I can see.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 09:13 AM) KC has had our number this year, especially Greinke. Time for some payback...although they can be a tough team for us to beat since 2006, especially playing in KC. Sox already beat Greinke this season. His first loss on the year.
  17. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) We could have one of those rare perfect storms where we have an excellent farm system plus great longterm FA acquisitions in 2010. And yet on the other side, we can stay content with our 33 yr old leadoff hitter with history of injury. And we can enjoy our aging DH who has started to experience a dip in average (which usually leaguewide leads to a later downturn in OBP when yr at his age) The thing is, I don't see any "great longterm FA acquisitions in 2010." Free agency is really weak this year. Jason Bay and Matt Holliday are the two best players. I can't imagine Boston letting Bay go, and it's doubtful the Sox would deal with Holliday and Boras. Figgins and Orlando Hudson are the other possibilities but I wouldn't really classify these guys as anything more than good players. As sad is it sounds, our best bet might be to try to stick it out with our old codgers on short-term deals and wait until 2011.
  18. There's really no use in trading Pods. No one is going to give us an A prospect for him, so the return of any potential prospects we receive pales in comparison to the benefit of having a true lead-off hitter. It's obviously far from a sure thing whether or not Pods can keep this up, but I'll take the risk instead of selling high.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 11:22 PM) Mark Teahan. Good call on Teahen. After DeRosa got traded, I started thinking how much the Sox could have used a player like that. Teahen is similar, only younger and probably harder to acquire. But he can play corner OF, 3b, and maybe a little 2b (or you can just play him at 3B and move Beckham to 2b). He would be a huge upgrade in the lineup over the Anderson/Wise platoon or Getz.
  20. I think Richard could be a good #4/#5 starter in the AL. With that said, people here are seriously overrating him if they wouldn't include him in a trade for an All-Star pitcher in his prime.
  21. I really don't want to deal with another "will he or won't he" couple of days where a guy decides if he wants to waive his NTC.
  22. Why would the Astros take less for Oswalt than the Padres would for Peavy? My understanding is they're not as financially screwed as the Padres, and hence, wouldn't be as desperate to dump Oswalt's contract. In fact, I don't really see why Houston trades Oswalt at all. I mean, when people were discussing fire sales two weeks ago, I doubt anyone here thought we should trade Buehrle. It's the same situation for Houston.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 28, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) Josh Beckett - $12MM club option with a $2MM buyout Erik Bedard Justin Duchscherer Rich Harden Tim Hudson - $12MM mutual option with a $1MM buyout John Lackey Cliff Lee - $8MM club option with a $1MM buyout Brett Myers Brandon Webb - $8.5MM club option with a $500K+ buyout Todd Wellemeyer The guys with options will have them picked up. I don't see how the Angels don't re-sign Lackey, or if they actually don't, how he doesn't end up with one of the east coast teams. We always lose bidding wars. Bedard is OK, but nowhere near as good as Peavy. Underwhelming list of players.
