  1. QUOTE(fathom @ May 30, 2005 -> 04:16 PM) We haven't had a throw as good from the outfield as Finley's throw this entire year. I liked Timo's throw in Anaheim last week. But you know who f***ed that up.
  2. QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 29, 2005 -> 05:04 PM) Garland had two ducksnorts that fell in. Nothing was hit hard except the Mench pitch. What about the 3 line drives by Dellucci, Young, and Blalock? Yes, the last one was caught, but the Rangers were certainly hitting the ball hard that inning.
  3. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ May 29, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) I see the Giants designated Matt Herges for assignment....he was decent last season but not so much this year...maybe he would be worth taking a flyer on if someone else doesn't nab him.... Given that description, how is Matt Herges any different than Vizcaino? My solution would be to try Bajenaru before going out to make any other moves (although he was terrible in his call-up last year). Still, Scott Sullivan type relievers will be available once teams start to sell off, we should be fine without having to give up too much.
  4. QUOTE(JimH @ May 29, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) Did I mention it's more likely they add a bullpen arm before they add a hitter? Just saying. Either would help at this point. Although in 2003, Kenny went with Rick White and Koch (that year's version of Vizcaino and Shingo, respectively) for quite a while. IIRC, Schoeneweis and Sullivan weren't picked up until sometime in August, while Robbie and Carl were brought in early July. Could be wrong on Schoeneweis...
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 29, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) I just cannot stand this doom and gloom attitude around here anymore, its ridiculous. And no one seemed to respond to my post about the Sox playing at the .750 clip all season. Our pitching is catching up to our hitting unfortunately, and not the other way around. We've lost 3 in a row, and are just 9-10 in our last 19 games. The offense has been dreadful, and the only way we've been able to win is through superhuman efforts from our starting pitching. Out of the last 9 wins, only once did a starting pitcher allow more than 2 ER and been able to win (Buehrle w/ 3 ER against Baltimore). Tell me why I should be optimistic.
  6. QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ May 29, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) The season isn't over, it's May. That's what most of us are afraid of. The Twins have plenty of time to beat our brains in again.
  7. I would personally be leery of any power hitters whose struggles seem to coincide with the newly implemented forms of steroid testing. That goes for Aubrey Huff, Eric Chavez, etc. If we're going to trade for any them, I would at least continue to evaluate them until July to see their offense improve.
  8. I'd be open to trading him. At the start of the season, he looked like a valuable pitcher for depth purposes in case of injury to one of our other starters. But his AAA numbers and performance in the big leagues indicate he needs some more time before starting at this level. So, if he's not going to help us much this year anyway, I would have no problem trading him for a veteran who can help us win now.
  9. I'm not so much upset about tonight's loss as we were never in a position to win. It happens. But you absolutely can't have games like last night's performance, where the team just completely gives the game away.
  10. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 27, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) Wow, BMac just got raped hardcore. Sox with a 4 game lead in the divison, and reeling. It's still all good though because we have the best record in baseball.
  11. QUOTE(BobDylan @ May 27, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) Different team, different year. ...same result.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ May 27, 2005 -> 08:04 AM) A great team...?? Uhhh, no. A great set of pitchers... yes. What do we need.....? Oh.. how about 6 guys that can hit the ball instead of wetting themselves at the plate. Totally agree with you there. The suggestion that our hitting is fine based on the quality of our record is insane. We have 3 regulars (Pods, Iguchi, AJ) who have lived up to or exceeded expectations. The rest have all had dissappointing seasons (to put it mildly); I don't see how they could be defended. Here's the batting averages from yesterday's boxscore after the first 2 spots in the order: .262 .237 .237 .264 .232 .212 .234 .273 .257 .189 :puke The semi-respectable .273 belongs to Willie Harris, BTW. It's really a miracle we're in first place with that type of lineup. EDIT: We're LAST in all of baseball with a .234 BA against right handed pitchers.
  13. I know it was a tough play, but that easily could have been an error on Juan.
  14. QUOTE(Spiff @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) People just need to get over themselves and stop being so goddamned short-sighted. We have two regulars hitting above .270. I think there's some room for criticsm, no matter our record. Our pitchers have had a very small margin of error all season.
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 24, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) If it was this past weekend, Birmingham was playing West Tennessee, a Cub affiliate. Levine has said the Cubs were close to a trade. Bruce Wolf mentioned this morning the Cubs may be going after Wagner and Polanco. These Phillies scouts may have been scouting Cub prospects. I doubt the Cubs would want Polanco. With Todd Walker coming back, the only position where Polanco would get some burn is SS, and Neifi Perez is actually having a pretty decent season. As far as Wagner, the Phillies are still only 6.5 games back. Don't think they would give up their closer at this point.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) With Kenny Williams, you never know. But there isn't a guy better at filling holes than Kenny is. With all of our starters owned by the team through the end of 2006, we have an extra pitcher with McCarthy making his name heard. Many, many teams will listen if we are talking about a pitcher for 1B. I mentioned this in my original post, but I would much rather they give the 1B job to Gload and dangle a pitcher for an upgrade at 3B.
  17. I pretty much agree with the idea of not resigning Konerko. The suggested $12+ million salary in the original Phil Rogers article seems very excessive for such a one-dimensional player. After last Saturday's game, the Sox had amassed a 31-12 record with Konerko hitting below .220. That should speak to his importance for our pitching-oriented team. And as was suggested earlier, I consider Ross Gload a very capable 1st baseman. His low salary would allow us to keep our pitching staff intact, and maybe even shop for some possible upgrades at other need positions (see Crede, Joe).
