  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) And Harris is out of the game on a double switch. Sox need a better multipurpose bench, they need a guy who can play 1B, 2B, 3B and maybe even a little OF. Paging Mackowiak or someone similar. quickman and I were discussing this, we agreed that there is not a problem to overpay a little bit. The Sox are in desperate need of a great hitter, not another average hitter to add to their collection of average hitters.
  2. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 10:22 AM) Actually the count is just as screwed if not more.. The offense has been downright pathetic for him.. LOL, I guess you might have a point, although Contreras doesn't go as deep into games as Buehrle. Just goes to show you our success this season begins and ends with our starting pitching. Anyone thinking we don't need upgrades because of our record, or because we're in 1st place, is crazy.
  3. Roger Clemens comes to mind in the NL, but as far as the AL is concerned, I can't think of anyone close... Buehrle's last 4 starts: 9 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER 8.1 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 3 ER 6.1 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER 7.2 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 ER As far as run support, I think it's more important to note the runs our offense scored while Buehrle was still in the game (in order): 1, 3, 1, 1. In other words :puke Sorry if this was discussed in any other topics, but as a member of the "Mark Buehrle 2005 Cy Young Award" bandwagon, I thought the s***tiness of our team when Buehrle starts deserved its own thread.
  4. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) Jack Wilson and Daryle Ward for Carl Everett and Ross Gload plus a prospect. You think the Pirates woulld possibly be interested? (probably not because Everett can't play the outfield). That trade does absolutely nothing for anyone involved.
  5. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) If Peavy had pitched today, they would have split. I am glad that we won't have to see Peavy either though. Jake Peavy would have hit a HR off Zambrano?
  6. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) Well that's to bad for Chavez because his limited no-trade clause covers these teams: Cleveland, Florida, Milwaukee, Minnesota, Montreal, Mets ,Tampa Bay and Toronto. He can't veto a trade to the Sox. Seems like a guy who wants to be in a pennant race by avoiding the small market teams. I have no idea why the Mets are on that list, other than maybe he didn't like Art Howe.
  7. Would be nice if we could get Rowand up with a guy on-base. I'd like our chances then.
  8. Broussard is pretty scary. I might just take my chances with Belliard, and I know he kills us.
  9. They need to replace Rowand with Cotts in that one commercial, and splice in this game footage. Much more appropriate IMO.
  10. Good thing Ozzie kept him out there. How many times has this backfired now? EDIT: Here's Cotts. I'm betting at least two more runs get tacked on to Buehrle's record.
  11. Great, now Buehrle is still out there until his arm falls off.
  12. This game is pretty much over. Scoring just one run looks like a monumental task, scoring two is probably impossible.
  13. Jesus. We just gave him another inning by swinging early in the count like that.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) The problem is, if we decide to keep Frank over Everett, we're going to end up seeing a lot of Timo I have a feeling. Frank can't be counted on to remain healthy the rest of the way, and I can't see how he'd be able to play more than 4 times a week. If we get rid of Everett, who is going to be the DH? That's right, everyone's favorite manager fluffer....OMIT TIMO. Gload would DH, which would be perfectly fine with me.
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) I just got dark as night. It looks like its going to pour. You were right. You need to send your resume to Tom Skilling. He could use your help. This is all you need: http://weather.chicagotribune.com/radar/st...LOT19&type=loop
  16. QUOTE(TLAK @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) Looks like it, but it wont last long. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. This storm is moving pretty fast.
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) I'm 5 miles north of USCF, the clouds are starting to roll in, but it is still sunny, hot and humid. They'll get this game in. I'm betting you'll get a nice batch of rain within 20 minutes.
  18. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) Last three starts have been about the same. The one at Tampa was very good. 6 IP, 3 H, 4 BB, 4 K, 2 ER
  19. God damnit, take some pitches guys. Cleveland played 13 innings yesterday.
  20. I know I shouldn't be the one saying it, but I think you guys are overreacting on Duque. This is a poor start yet he's been solid so far this season. Brandon "Home Run" McCarthy isn't a better alternative at this point.
  21. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) You avoided my question. Who do you pitch in place of Hernandez if he is on the DL, and McCarthy is gone? McCarthy wasn't exactly an improvement over the other 5th starters we've run out there in the past. I'm sure it won't be hard to find someone else who would get hammered for 5 innings.
  22. I would take Ramirez and Lee over our pitiful corners, and Prior and Zambrano over anyone but Buehrle. They Cubs do have some talented players, and at least their s***faced manager doesn't start Jose Macias at first base.
  23. I guess I don't really understand the logic of adding a guy having a down year when the roster is full of guys having down years.
  24. QUOTE(Wanne @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 10:53 PM) My point is...if PK had some nads...he shoulda thrown 'em on the table. I think he'll do that after the game, by criticizing a teammate to the media. I'm sure someone on the field disobeyed one of Bob Brenly's baseball rules tonight.
  25. WHY THE f*** IS ROSS GLOAD STILL IN CHARLOTTE??? You've got a DH hitting in the .230's, and your primary lefty off the bench hitting in the .190's. If I was the GM, Ross Gload would on a plane to Chicago two days ago.
