  1. Well, we're 5th in runs scored in the AL. However, the gap between us and the 9th AL team is only 14 runs, whereas the gap between us and the 4th team is 32 runs. Still, that's not too bad.
  2. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) All I've seen Everett do is make routine catches in the outfield. Dye has made diving/sliding catches. Crede has two hits tonight, he's a better hitter than Ichiro! Dye's sliding and diving catches are so completely unneccessary. He's forced into them because of his horrible reads. And I'm not saying Carl should be out there, just that Dye hasn't played well at all.
  3. Considering this was Elmer Dessens, this has to be up there as far as worst hitting performance of the season. Unreal. And we need to win tomorrow just to avoid having a real s***ty against two crappy teams.
  4. I guess I would trade him for Halladay or Santana but that's about it. The great thing about Buehrle is he has a pretty easy delivery and isn't a flame thrower so there's less durability concerns. Although I'm obviously no expert, seems to me like Oswalt has a violent delivery and he has spent time on the DL 2 years ago (but then again so have Halladay and Santana).
  5. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) Only on this board can a comment like that be construed as Konerko not liking Uribe. This is a total non story, it's amazing how people here read into the simplest remarks by a player. I agree this story has nothing to do with Uribe. But it does go a long way in showing the true retardedness of Paul Konerko. I really hope the Sox don't do something stupid and give this guy $10-12 million over 5 years.
  6. Kenny has money and prospects to spend. I can't see him standing pat, or only a doing a "minor tweak." It's not his style.
  7. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) You know what this means... ...we have to do a thread like this everytime we are playing like s***. This thread ranks right up there with Hawk's "C'MON TIMO! C'MON TIMO!" as far as willing the Sox to victory. But a word of caution, we must not abuse the power of the MOJO thread.
  8. Quick stats on Brower: 2W-1L, 6.53 ERA, .320 BAA, 1.81 WHIP. In other words, not good. He's had a few good seasons before this year, but that makes him no different than Vizcaino. Maybe the Sox see a flaw in his delivery and think they can fix it? Otherwise, I don't see a reason to bring him in.
  9. I'm betting Cincy would want less for Randa seeing as how they're not a contender. As much as I hate Crede, I can't justify giving up one of Politte/Cotts/Hermanson for Mueller.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) Both of our cuban pitchers need to trust our catchers and the game that they call. Both of them are steller when they get the ball, look for the sign, and hit the target. When they start to shake off the catcher, go 3 or 4 signs deep its going to be a long night. Contreras was hanging his splitter yesterday and that was pretty much it. He still needs to throw it though because no pitcher is going to survive by just throwing fastballs. EDIT: I know what you're saying about Contreras, and he is frustrating to watch at times, but that's like bringing up style points IMO. I can't argue with his results so far this year. He's got 9 quality starts which is very good when compared with our other starters (Buehrle - 10, Garland - 9, Garcia - 8, Duque - 5).
  11. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) I dont know what Contreras' problem is, he is obiviously stubborn cause Coop and Ozzie tell him use the fastball use the fastball and he seems to always find his way back to a forkball that he is hoping the hitter will go through it. I give him his props on his good outings though, its hit or miss with this guy. Just give us a solid 5-6 innings and you can earn your 8 mil. sheesh Maybe you guys criticizing Contreras should check out one of his games and look at his numbers every once in a while. The guy's been great all season.
  12. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) I see your catching up on the thread but I agree with fathom, both the cubans throw alot of pitches and put people on base. They do get out of jams many times, but the point is they get in too many jams. Its seems they are always pitching with runners on base. I agree about Hernandez but Contreras' WHIP is 1.21 (15th best in the AL). How is that putting people on base? El Duque's is 1.63 for comparison.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) But...but...but....we have the best record in baseball. We're going to need new guys to pick it up, because a lot of the players that were carrying us earlier in the season are struggling. Iguchi's batting average has been slowly fading for a month now, and Contreras and Hermanson have struggled recently. Uribe looks to be coming out of his slump, which will help. Now, I'm usually as negative as they come, but Contreras has a bad start and he's labeled as "struggling recently." That's like me saying Timo's on fire lately because he's got 2 hits in his last 5 at bats.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 08:49 PM) So could Albert Pujols. I'm not going to b**** about Crede when he's actually producing at the plate now. See, that's why there's a little thing called a season average, so we aren't fooled by a little hot-streak. Even in this little hot-streak, Crede still has no idea what he's doing. He's gotten lucky by hitting a couple of mistake pitches but his swing still is long and loopy. Remember the Otsuka at-bat at San Diego?
  15. Any team where only one starting position player has an OPS over .800 should not be worried about strengthening the bench. It's likely that if an extra bench player is indeed acquired, a case can be made that the bench player should actually be starting. For example, Lugo vs. Uribe: Lugo - .287/.333/.371 (15 SB, 3 CS) Uribe - .246/.282/.372
  16. QUOTE(bighurt4444 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) Even if the Sox game didn't end until 25 minutes in, Baseball Tonight still shows highlights of games that are in progress. Which I didn't see if they did. You would think two first place teams playing each other would be a higher priority. This media disregard for the Sox doesn't usually bother me, but this time it just rubs me the wrong way. Sorry for my first topic posting to be a negative one, but this just bothered me. I have been observing this site for a long time, but I just never usually post. They don't do continuous updates or highlights of games in progress on the Sunday shows.
  17. QUOTE(bighurt4444 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 12:13 AM) 36 minutes is how long it took for the Baseball Tonight crew to even mention the White Sox. Yeah, we had to make sure we saw the Royals vs. DBacks highlights before we could see highlights of the best team in baseball. I am usually not a big supporter of the "Sox always get disrespected by the media" club, but this is just plain stupid. The best team in baseball has a record of 42-20 and hits a 10th inning 3-run homer to win a game and we don't see highlights of it for 36 minutes. What a joke. I know its always going to be this way, and its fine by me. Keep winning under the radar. I'm sure if the Sox lost in that 10th inning, they would have made the first segment. This disrespect from people like Baseball Tonight just make winning all the more sweet! Go Sox!!! Baseball Tonight shown at 11:30 is just a replay of the 6 pm show. Our game ended about 25-30 minutes into their broadcast.
  18. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 06:10 PM) I say leave Politte in there to hit next inning. I'm confused. What is Cliff's spot in the order? f***ing NL ball. :headshake
  19. All these blown chances are going to bite us in the ass. The longer this game goes, the closer we are to Shingo Time.
  20. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) Dye vs. Hoffman. I'd rather have Timo vs. Hammond but I'm probably wrong.
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) Interesting call to bring in a lefty here. Hammond is better against righties because of his change.
  22. We really are just horrible in executing and mistakes. Last night, 1st and 3rd with 0 outs and we can't score a run. Today, horrible bunt by Willie, Carl running to 3rd with 1 out and the ball hit to the left side, and the bases loaded debacle last inning.
  23. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 05:32 PM) Yes sir. I am naive. Thank you for pointing that out. Let's talk more about fantasy trades. Yeah, ok. Whenever Kenny makes trades, it's usually to strengthen the bench. And he's never, ever traded for a big name player. Never.
  24. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 05:13 PM) They need a better bench and a guy who can play multiple positions. They said they will not be bringing in a superstar, not sure why we would think otherwise considering it's been said by KW and Guillen repeatedly. I am living in the reality here, meaning what I think is realistic. Of course I would love to add a star bat, but I won't bother speculating due to what the GM and manager have said. Please don't be that naive to believe what comes out of KW's mouth. We both know Kenny is always looking to acquire trophy players (this morning, Ofman said KW called Oakland to talk about Chavez).
