  1. I was quite surprised at how well Garcia stacks up against the other AL pitchers. Taking everything into account, he's probably been the 7th best starter in the AL (behind Buehrle, Garland, Halladay, Rogers, Colon, Clement).
  2. I hope it's not too late to get back on the Barry Zito bandwagon.
  3. Schmidt's getting hit around by the D-Backs: 2.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER
  4. Crede-Meter: .261 June, .237 overall. We have got to move on Randa before the Twins, otherwise we'll be stuck with Cruddy for the rest of the year.
  5. FYI, Joe Crede is now hitting .265 during his "great" June. I'll keep you guys posted.
  6. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) FOR SALE? The Chronicle asked a scout for a National League team in contention to rank the five Giants who might be most desirable to other teams for the stretch drive, regardless of their contracts. Here is the scout's list, plus some comments: 1. Jason Schmidt "I know for sure one team is actively pursuing Schmidt. No doubt he is No. 1." 2. Omar Vizquel "Vizquel, he came here to win. Now that Barry (Bonds) is out, you're taking a big player out of the equation." I don't know about Alfonzo, but Omar Vizquel would look terrific playing for the Sox. Doubtful it will happen though because I can't see the Sox making Uribe a $3M per year backup.
  7. This is also from another Rosenthal article posted yesterday:
  8. Burnett sounds nice, but the asking price doesn't. As good as he is, I don't think it's wise to give up multiple players from the major league team. As far as Moyer, he's probably nothing more than a 5th starter capable of eating up some innings. I guess in our situation we can't really complain.
  9. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) Did you read the first line of my post at all? Sheesh, I guess 15 starts makes a f***ing career... It's also retarded to assume a player will automatically return to his norm throughout the course of a season (there are always variations, whether from injury or a number of other reasons). So regardless of what you may think of Lilly going forward, at this point he's no better than an inexperienced McCarthy or El Duque missing an arm. What's the point of making a move and HOPING that it may work out? Wouldn't you want a sure thing?
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) Those are stats from this year. Composed of what, 15-20 starts? Mercy... Off the top of my head, Lilly is right around a career 4.00 ERA pitcher. His ERA+ has been right around league average. For the right price, he's the guy this team needs. Cheat and Jim (among others) have been calling it for months, we need a swingman who can fill in for the fifth starter's role, and help us in the 'pen. Christ guys, Lilly has a 6.00+ ERA, why are we even talking about him? I was hoping his latest s***-tastic start would put it to rest, but guess not.
  11. I would just like to point out that Joe Crede is now only hitting .269 in his "hot" June.
  12. It's a shame. Jon really deserves better after his performance today.
  13. We give up a f***ing run without a walk or a hit. God damn it.
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) Leadoff double and no runs? Is that what happened? Yeah. That was as god-awful of an inning as we'll see all year.
  15. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) haha maddux is pissed....... even better once we kill him today.. Can someone recap the "Maddux is pissed" story. I missed that part of the pre-game.
  16. QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 01:17 PM) I had an interesting look thru the transactions of WS participants in the last ten yrs, the first thing that pops out at you is the lack of trades by these teams in June-Aug of that yr. The best pitching pickups? Urbina in '03 for the Marlins and Ken Hill for the Tribe in '95. The only other two worth mention is Dave Weathers for the Mets '00 and Leskanic for the Red Sox in '04, both of those only really contibuted during the playoffs. Just looking at the last 2 years, you missed St. Louis acquiring Larry Walker and Boston trading Nomar for Cabrera. From 2003, you've mentioned the Urbina trade (which was huge) but should also remember the Yankees trading for Aaron Boone (who was, at least at that time, a big name).
  17. This game was so great, I'm going to watch it again on replay, even with Kasper/Ryno/Brenly in the booth.
  18. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 09:53 AM) It's not a matter of getting a proven ace. Or not wanting one. But the Sox adding a SP who has a big contract when they already have 5 under contract [with Garland due a big raise] isn't smart for the future of the club. The Sox can let Schmidt go at the end of the season (team option). That's really not a problem.
  19. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 05:23 AM) Except the sox needed a #1, #2 type SP in those years. And Freddy replaced Bartolo This year the sox might need a #5 type SP if El Duque is out for long I don't think there's a team in baseball that couldn't use a #1 starter, including the Sox. If anything, it would allow the Sox to place Contreras in the pen for the playoffs, giving them another good power arm to go with Politte and Marte. A #5 starter doesn't give us that type of flexibility. Of course he could probably eat up some innings during the season, which obviously isn't a bad thing considering Duque's fragile state.
  20. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) Getting a little ahead of yourself eh .......well i am hopin too.......Kenny pulling out Freddie last year was huge, but if he could get the best 2 pitchers on the block 2 years in a row.....WOW and Kenny got Bartolo in 2003 (although not at the deadline), so this would be the third straight year of acquiring the best pitcher on the block.
  21. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) I listened to yesterday's game on the internet and Ed was talking about Tuesday's game and how ESPN didn't show Sox highlights until 3/4 into the show, this after Garland became the league's first 12 game winner. f*** ESPN. Ever since that jerk Berman went off on Sox fans for booing during the all-star game I've hated those guys. Farmio was wrong. I watched that Baseball Tonight and the Sox-Royals was the first thing they did, even before talking about the Yankees/D-Rays. Our highlights were followed with the discussion of the All-Star starting pitchers (Brantley went with Garland and Gammons with Buehrle).
  22. Twins were 44-49 (7.5 GB) at the break 2 years ago. That coupled with our brutal 2nd part of July and August still makes me very nervous.
  23. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) Even if they regain form, I still consider Marte, Shingo and even Cotts "iffy". Sure I think they can get hot for a couple of weeks here and there, but then will slump. What if that slump occurs in October? We're talking about post season ball, I'd like something more solid. I don't exactly disagree with you about the bullpen shakiness, but at this point, I'm probably more confident in Marte regaining form than El Duque staying healthy for the duration of the year.
