  1. I think the ship has sailed as far as beating out the Twins. Not getting any sort of pitching help at the deadline was the end of this team's division title hopes. I'm not even getting worked up about the games anymore since my expectations for the season have been very much lowered. I'll obviously watch every game and so on but I'm not going to treat every loss like a kick in the balls. On the other hand, I still think there's a chance at a wild card. Boston, New York, and Tampa all have difficult schedules, including a number of games against each other. Plus we've still got a number of games against those teams (which is both good and bad, depending on your perspective).
  2. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) i'm shocked aviles didn't just tie it up He smoked that ball.
  3. And another inning where our pitcher gives up runs right after we score.
  4. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 06:57 PM) Did Griffey make his first catch for us? I was away... Just barely. They let him take his wheelchair out to CF too.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) In other news, it looks like Dirty Thirty is no more. He has given 30 to Griffey and will wear #1, which not so coincidentally is his position in many posters' hearts. This is getting kinda old. There's at most two or three people on this board who still think highly of Swisher.
  6. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 10:43 AM) It will be intersting to see the line-up tonight. I read something this morning about Ozzie hitting Griffey 7th. So, I'm guessing: OC AJ CQ Dye Thome Lexi Griffey Swisher Fields/Uribe I would stick Fields in between Griffey and Swisher. Or maybe even bat him 6th. Managers could bring a lefty for Thome, Griffey, and Swisher. Sticking Lexi in between is fine but I'd also put Fields in between there somewhere. Fields crushes lefties and this would prevent opposing managers from bringing in their specialists to mow our guys down.
  7. .299 That is Swisher's slugging % on the road. His home splits at least look respectable: .257/.375/.509/.884 OPS If he were even decent on the road, his season stats would look pretty close to his career norms. Although I was concerned about it at the start of the season, I don't really think Swisher was a juicer. He's just had a very pathetic season on the road, for whatever reason.
  8. The last two losses were pathetic but they didn't really upset me that much. We should have gotten Monday's game with our ace pitcher against a guy who we've destroyed earlier in the season. Instead we just rolled over and vomited all over ourselves. Not that I really expected it, but not getting any pitching help is really going to cost us this division. I don't think this team has enough pitching to win the race.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:52 AM) Supposedly the Cardinals are offering Kyle Lohse for a reliever and a bat. Maybe KW has something going there. I don't like Lohse.. That would be so dumb for the Cards...
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:49 AM) I think there was a different reason for that one (chemical) which I don't think is involved with PK. He could be washed up but I think it's unlikely. Well, there have been plenty of comments about Konerko looking slimmer than ever.
  11. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) Scotty Bowman to be announced Senior Advisor for the Blackhawks Brett Favre to the Bears Griffey to the Sox Could be a memorable day in Chicago sports lore. ...if it were 1997.
  12. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:24 AM) Konerko is not washed up. I think he is still hurt and you'll see him go on the DL when this deal goes through. You don't see a drop off like this at 32. Richie Sexson.
  13. This wouldn't be a terrible trade. It's like our version of acquiring Jim Edmonds. That looked like a nothing move so we might get lucky here as well. Griffey has been hot over the last month and going through a pennant race might re-energize him.
  14. I think both these guys would be a waste of prospects. Get a SP or do nothing. There's really no good RHP relievers available other than maybe Houston Street.
  15. He's been a huge bust. But with that said he has still hit better and fielded better than Konerko, so he's the team's best 1b by default, hence why people want him playing 1b right now. Plus he had a good month just one month ago. Konerko's last good month was sometime in 2007. I don't really get your tactic of defending Konerko by slamming Swisher but whatever. They both suck right now, but it's pretty clear one doesn't nearly suck as hard. And there's really not too many people defending Swisher from what I've read. The ones who are still probably think Vazquez is our best starter. I wouldn't really think too much of their opinions nor would I consider them a majority of the board.
  16. Swisher and Konerko have both been awful but at least Swisher has put together a decent month making you think he's got a pulse. Swisher has been more disappointing though because he was supposed to be one of our core guys for the future. Q's been a revelation but we still have very few quality players under 30 (Q, Jenks, Alexei, Buehrle, Danks, and Floyd). Anyway, going back to Konerko, this made me chuckle (from Mark Gonzalez's mailbag): http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...1,5299442.story
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) Buehrle usually gets beaten by disciplined hitting teams like Oakland and Minnesota. Buehrle's record and ERA against the Twins are both pretty good.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 09:46 PM) and before anyone complains about a Jekyll and Hyde offense, there was no offensive philosophy the White Sox could have instilled that was going to win with the way they executed tonight. Slowey's command was fantastic, but the lineup just looked like absolute s***. Alexei played like a rookie in the field (he is, so it's expected now and then). Buehrle left a couple pitches out to be crushed. It happens. Forget about the loss and go back out tomorrow and actually score some runs. Gonna need a lot more than just "some" runs tomorrow.
  19. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 09:26 PM) It's now a normal 3 game series. The Sox need to win 2 of 3, just like they did in Detroit. It can be done, and I expect it. I'd be happy with 1 at this point. Still, I thought we'd 3 from Tigers/Twins so getting 1 here won't be too bad. I'm just left hoping KW can somehow magically acquire another SP before Thursday. On paper, tonight's game was the one I felt most confident about. This was an important game and we blew it big time.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) Maybe Masset will give up 5 runs and finally convince KW that he shouldn't be in the majors. Yeah, cuz we have all these guys in AAA who deserve a promotion.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 09:18 PM) This game is over...since a lot of us have turned on the Cubs game, might as well talk about it in here. No game is ever over untill it's over!!!!!!!!111!!!1
