  1. When it was 7-5 in the 3rd, I like how Hawk talked about how there's going to be a lot more runs scored and there's been 1 run scored since then. And I could very well see us not scoring again.
  2. Sox had 9 baserunners against Nippert in his 2.2 IP and only got 1 run.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) All this weekend shows me is that Danks is a f***ing stud. Yeah, and it's not even about this weekend. Santana and Lackey got destroyed in Texas earlier in the week.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) Work out some sort of three team deal. Sox acquire Beltre and Bedard, give up Crede/Fields/MORE PROSPECTS (Crede passed on to a contending team in need of a 3Bman who sends back a prospect or two to Seattle). The idea behind this is if you give up Fields, you now are getting a 3B man who can at least help you out this season and next season. Of course you could just go after Bedard for a package centered around Fields (as I think the M's will move Beltre regardless). I like Bedard but I'm a little scared of his shoulder problem. I heard this is something he's been pitching with for the entire season. Anyone know any more about his injury?
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) Burnett is just plain icky. 4.89 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, has missed about 18 starts due to injury over the past 2 seasons and can opt for free agency at the end of the season. Those are good points but the guy has had 2 pretty good seasons in 2006 and 2007 pitching against some really good offenses in the AL. So unless there's talk of his stuff disappearing or something like that, I'd be willing to take my chances with Burnett. I mean Vazquez is considered an ace by many here based on a flukey season last year and I think Burnett's been better in the AL.
  6. Would Derek Lowe be available? He's a free agent I think after the season and the Dodgers are pretty bad (though of course still very much in it).
  7. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) Garcia would be worse than JC. I was just pointing out who's available. But really, anybody with a pulse would probably be better than Jose right now.
  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) So, I'd like us to target a SP, but who? Well, Rich Harden could have been had dirt cheap. Otherwise you've got Burnett and Bedard if he's healthy. Then there's Freddy Garcia.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 05:37 PM) This entire post is absolutely ridiculous. Maybe you can say something of substance... Boston, LAA, Milwaukee, Tampa, Toronto, Oakland, Cubs, Arizona all have better starting staffs IMO. I'd have to look a little bit more to see if I could find more teams. I'm a guy who takes quality over quantity. So I look at a team like Milwaukee with two #1 starters and I'm pretty sure I'd rather have their rotation. And Bush, Suppan, and Parra have pitched about as well as Contreras and Vazquez. Maybe the the Sox have the best #4 and #5 starters (Vazquez and Count) in the league but come playoff time that doesn't really matter much.
  10. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) Reality June Monthly Totals : 4-1 W/L 3.86 ERA 35 K 10 BB 35 H 37.1 IP I would imagine a lot of teams would love to have an iffy starter like Gavin Floyd was in the month before his last start. You and I both know that ERA is a little misleading. He gave up 26 R (16 ER). I can understand bad defense and fully agree those weren't all his fault but at some point you have to pitch over some errors. It was a decent month but nothing like April and May where he looked like an All-Star pitcher. I do think he might be our best pitcher.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 04:30 PM) Dude, you kill me. If Gavin has A bad outing, we have 3 iffy starters? We have one of the best records in baseball because we have one of the best starting rotations in baseball, probably the best bullpen in baseball, and an offense that has been quite good since mid-May. 2 of our starters suck right now. Gavin has been a little iffy for the last month until his start against Oakland, which is just a pathetic hitting team. I am not going to hold this game against him regardless what happens, but to say this is one of the best rotations in baseball right now is false. They still have good numbers because of the first two months so statistically they'd be right up there. But if you'd ask me to pick the best rotations at the moment, the Sox might not even make my top 10.
  12. I don't think there's really a right or a wrong position to take in this argument. On the one hand, Konerko is a veteran hitter with a long history of production so it's perfectly fine to expect him to produce at some point. On the other hand, Paulie is an old 32 going on 41 with an appearant decline in some of his skills. When you combine this year's abysmal production with last year's declining production, it's not out of place to conclude that he could be done as an All-Star level player. I have no idea if he has indeed lost bat speed but it does seem like he has trouble turning on fastballs this season, and really that has been his thing throughout his career. The question is whether or not this is simply a result of mental slump/poor approach/injury combo or if it's a more serious decline in skill? All I need to do is look at Richie Sexson and see a similar player's decline at a similar age. Sexson went from a .900 OPS to around an .850 OPS to a .690 OPS last year. And he's continued to suck this season. Konerko goes from .932 to .841 to .679. It's pretty bad, regardless of any excuses. I don't think there's any chance of us trading Konerko, but it's possible his value will continue going down. At this point, some team might still take a chance on him. The longer he sucks though, there's going to be less and less interest. And the consequence of him sucking isn't only that we're stuck with him, but we're going to be stuck actually PLAYING him.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) No one has mentioned this, but Ozzie said Javy's velocity was way down last night, and they don't know why. Maybe throwing that 121 pitch CG previous start had something to do with it. FWIW, I didn't think his velocity was "way down"... might have been slightly down. When I checked the radar gun in the first he was throwing his usual 91-93.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) PK continues to swing like he's trying to figure things out at the plate. He should have stayed a few days longer in the minors, as he's worthless right now. He could always just be washed up. Not like it hasn't happened before.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) We'll face Greinke again in the first game after the ASB. Don't worry, we'll have #1 White Sox ace Javy Vazquez on the mound for that one.
  16. This is as painful as the other two were great. We returned the favor by giving this one away. Horribly managed 8th inning. Why was Buehrle pitching to Aviles?
  17. This was a great win. Was at the bar to watch this so I could not really see how the KC pitcher balked? It looked like he didn't even move. Then again, balk calls usually go over my head anyway. Oh, and Vazquez sucked big time. I hope we can put to rest the silly notion of Javy being our best pitcher.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) Good depends on your definition of good. Murton, Patterson and Gallagher will all have extended major league careers as starters. The Cubs didn't have open positions so they aren't really effected by the loss of the talent but the A's will be able to plug all three of these guys into there lineup immediately and in Gallagher's case you are talking about a guy with #2/#3 starter upside (very live arm). Given Harden's injury history, I think you could call the deal a very fair return (especially since all three of the main pieces acquired should immediately become starters in Oakland). The A's have a really crappy lineup though so just because those guys could start for Oakland doesn't really mean they would start on many other teams. I don't think they would start for the Sox, or Boston, or New York, or Minny, or the Angels, etc. BTW, I don't even think Patterson is going to start for the A's with Ellis at 2B. Murton could probably start in LF.
  19. Just for argument's sake, could the Sox have put together a better package than that with our minor leaguers? Not that I would necessarily want them to do this, but I keep hearing the Sox don't have the ammo to make a big trade. I thought both Cleveland and Oakland sold way low, especially the A's. I think it's a great trade for the Cubs.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 07:46 PM) It's like you guys are surprised by this. We've been good one week, bad another for 2 months. We're like 30-10 at home so we've generrally at least played well at those times. No reason there shouldn't be at least a split.
  21. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 07:45 PM) If our offense doesnt wake up we could get swept out of our home park. Well, I don't think it's going to wake up tomorrow against Cy Smith. Unless Harden's arm is about to fall off, I don't think it's going to happen against him either. Floyd and Danks have to be really good for us to win.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 07:38 PM) 4-1 A's now...just a mediocre performance by Buehrle. Mark Ellis has looked horrible this series, I'm not sure why you put him on. Nothing mediocre about it; it was down right poor. Oakland is a bad hitting team. Greg Smith and Harden are going to be tough. I have not heard anything about the Harden dead arm?
  23. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 07:36 PM) No way. This is the type of pitcher where Uribe ends his swing on his knees. And there you go...
