  1. To think, I thought June was going to be our month to get separation.
  2. QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) I agree. I think they're going to fade down the stretch, especially away from the Twinkie dome. I'm just so frustrated with these interleague games. I could care less about any of these matchups. It needs to be restructured. I'd much rather see us play teams from the AL East or West as opposed to NL teams. I wouldn't even mind more inter-division games. These games are meaningless to me. How is playing the Dodgers any less meaningful than playing the Mariners or Rangers?
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 10:38 PM) Honestly, I'm not worried about the Twins long term. I don't believe they have the starting pitching to last the rest of the season. As a scout told my brother, if the Twins win, it's more because the Sox and Tigers struggled during the 2nd half of the season than the Twins going out and running away with the division. I am starting to get the idea that our pitching isn't all that great either.
  4. QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 10:32 PM) Lately there has been. The Nationals are a AAA team, and San Diego has been horrid all season long. The Rockies have been playing better of late, and I still think the Dodgers are good enough to win the NL West. Rockies just got swept in KC. C'mon. Dodgers lost 2 of 3 against Cleveland. They are all terrible teams.
  5. QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) Granted we've played like crap, but I can't stand these interleague matchups. Minnesota has had the luxury of playing the Nationals and Padres. What a complete joke. Why are they even playing Washington? Why did we play Colorado. These matchups are just stupid. It's not there's a big difference between Colorado/Dodgers vs. Nationals/Pads. Only difference is Sox will be 2-3 against those teams and Minnesota will be 5-0 after tonight.
  6. Headed for 5-9 on our last 14. This is a problem. The pitching isn't even there to bail us out anymore.
  7. Just think how fun next inning is going to be. Alexei and basically 2 pitchers.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 09:44 PM) Twins are playing fantastic baseball...Casilla's been a huge catalyst for them. He's actually cooling off. The guy was hitting low .200 in the minors. No way he keeps this up.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) OH MY GOD! THE WORLD ISN'T COMING TO AN END! THE GAME ISN'T OVER! It's always a toss-up whether or not the Sox can score 3 or more runs.
  10. Depending on what happens in San Diego, this could be a pretty perfect day of baseball. Beautiful outing from Buehrle. And how about some props for Wise? Hopefully BA stays parked on the bench.
  11. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) Just b4 they went to this Hawkism thing Chuck Garfien said he has a stiff back and Melton said its due to the long flight I bet. 5yr/$75M
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) Even with his recent struggles he has a 4.24 era and a better than 3-1 k to bb ratio. In the American League, that's well above average. He's also been giving up extra base hits like they're candy. His OPS against is the highest of his career outside of his rookie season. His K/BB ratio was the same in '06, and even better in '05. Didn't help Vazquez much in those years. It's nothing to get excited about and, if anything, just shows that Vazquez is a perennial underachiever.
  13. I know he was good last season, but if we're counting this season, he's been an average to below average pitcher 4 out of the last 5 years. How in the world is he get labeled as our ace? He's neither the best based on current performance nor is he the best based on past performance. WIth that said, I think he'll be good enough the rest of the year, and there's no way I'd rather have Masset. But Vazquez is a #3 or #2 (at best) starter.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) I just puked in my mouth. Javier Vazquez is the White Sox best pitcher, and you want to give him a break. Do you want to give Carlos Quentin a break from the lineup right now and sit him down for a week or two too just because he's struggled a bit? In what world is Vazquez the White Sox best pitcher? He might be the worst starter on the Sox right now.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 04:19 AM) The DH with an .816 OPS will actually help though, especially when he's swinging a hot stick. ----- I'm glad I generally avoided the board this weekend, because I knew this place was going to be a ticking time bomb. It was. Let's call it a season, until the next time they sweep someone and they're 2.5 games in first, and then it's off to the races again. I know Thome will help. Konerko should help, too. I was just poking fun at our captain's leadership skills (which is what Wanne was talking about). On the other hand, Wise swung the bat well the last 2 days so it's not like you can say having Konerko or Thome would have made much of a difference (although Anderson killed us on Friday). Just like not having Soriano in the lineup wasn't a big loss for the Cubs because Eric Patterson killed us. Wise was 3-6, 1 HR, 2 BB in the series. Like I said before, Wise is nothing special, but he has been hot in the minors so we may just catch some lightning in a bottle with this guy for a few weeks. He really should be taking Anderson's ABs.
  16. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:38 PM) I had a feeling this would happen after the 1st game. They lose a tough game like that when they had it at hand...pissed away multiple opportunities...and curl up in a fetal position the rest of the series. They did it in Toronto...Tampa...Detroit..and now at Wrigley. This team really has no LEADERS WITH NADS!!!!!!!!!! Just wait 'till our sweet-swinging .691 OPS first baseman gets back in the lineup. Can you say domination?
  17. Was told earlier: "You win some, you lose some. Get over it." That's brilliant. Maybe the Sox could have used that as their marketing slogan after last season. Would have gone over real well with the fan base, imo. The worst thing to come out of this series, other than the losses themselves, are the terrible outings from Contreras and Vazquez. I don't want to hear any more s*** about Vazquez being some great, underrated pitcher. Had a good season last year but this is the Vazquez from 3 of the last 4 years (i.e. the real Vazquez). Good arm, some good months, some bad. Certainly not an ace. No way is he our best pitcher. With Contreras, I think he will be fine if there's no injury. I just hope he's not trying to play through something because as we've seen an injury can throw him off completely.
  18. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 07:34 PM) Anderson looks terrible much of the time at the plate. So did Crede when he first came up. Anderson needs big league at bats, and now is the perfect time to give him the playing time. Brian Anderson's minor league production wasn't even close to Crede's.
  19. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) I watched the game yesterday with 7 friends, 4 of which were Cub fans. They gloated, just like I would have after a win. It's baseball. You win some and you lose some. Get over it. That would be nice. I just hope it's not win none and lose all.
  20. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 10:48 PM) Bragging rights aren't important. I'm not lying. It's really not that hard to do. I suppose you must live in a bubble or are surrounded by only Sox fans. Because I can't f***ing stand the Cubs fans I have to deal with and it's only going to get worse after this weekend.
  21. It's probably more important to us fans than the players. But I would like to think that if it's important to us fans then it should also be important to the players. I think any Sox fan who says braggin' rights aren't important is lying or just trying to rationalize our losses.
  22. 4-7 in our last 11. Today's loss wouldn't be so bad if not for yesterday's debacle. I hope these players show some pride tomorrow.
