  1. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) Then I expect not see you around these parts much. If this team is as bad as you say it is, wouldn't spending your time here be even more pathetic? Nope, I am a loser and will spend way too much time following the Sox.
  2. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) right now, there are more than 30 starters in the league I would take over Liriano. Probably more. And I'm sure there's 6 of them on the White Sox roster...
  3. If the Sox cared so much about their defense Ken Griffey Jr. would never start a game in CF.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) If you can't laugh at times like this, you'll end up crying instead. Well, I am a lot closer to crying than laughing. If you love your team and spend as much time following it as we do, there is nothing funny about this.
  5. I don't think this is magically going to get better just because we're at home. We're 5-5 in our last 10 home games against the powerhouse trio of Oakland, KC, and Texas.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) It's too bad the trade deadline can't be this coming week. KW would be an idiot if he needed another week to figure out this pitching staff sucks.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) Well, Ozzie pulled starters in a 5 run game in the 7th yesterday. Which was stupid.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) No, because KC had a guy try to steal 3rd in a 6-0 game, and they also tried to bunt. If you pull that s***, you better be ducking at the plate. 6-0 isn't a blowout. Technically the Sox have enough hitting to make you think they can score 6 or more. They came back yesterday. You and I know they usually quit during these situations but it's still possible.
  9. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) not a fan of fastballs at the grill because your pitching staff fu*king blows. and i don't disagree that Olivo looks like a roider, not that it has anything to do with anything I agree with this. Nothing says POS team like one that's throwing beanballs after getting their asses handed to them 2 straight days in embarassing losses. How about the pitchers actually get some guys out?
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) I will say that if I had to give my opinion on this, the Sox are going to go into September with about a 4.5 game lead in the division because 16 of the next 19 are at home and they have a day off before the second toughest roadstand (I consider Oakland harder than Boston simply because they always struggle against Oakland and it is so far out west); I am going to quote this in my sig after today because I'm going to need a laugh every once in a while with how pathetic this team will be for the rest of the year.
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:27 PM) That 11 game west coast trip and than 3 in Toronto is not weak sauce. I would rather play Boston at home with no Manny than that. Twins will cruise through Seattle and Oakland.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:22 PM) Kudos to Greinke....he knows when it's the ace against the opposition's #5 starter, you go out and win. Too bad Buehrle let Davies beat him yesterday. Not to mention Monday night against Slowey.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) If we just completely tank over the next month, KW should really try to pass Dotel through waivers. Why stop with Dotel? Count, Vazquez, Linebrink, throw all those guys out there.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) We have a pretty good core with Beckham, Ramirez, Danks, Floyd, Quentin, Swisher, Buehrle, Konerko (if healthy), Jenks (who we might have to think about maximizing his value by a trade...as our most tradeable piece). I guess we should have tried to get the maximum value out of Dye...but there's simply no way that KW could have done it this year, which is looking like a repeat of 2003 and 2006 down the stretch. It's not looking quite as hopeless as it did coming into this season, actually. Assuming that Ramirez, Quentin, Danks and Floyd are for real and not one year wonders. Beckham is not part of our core yet. He is not in the majors nor is he even signed. The soonest he'll play is 2010. That's an eternity. We don't even know if he'll ever make it as a major leaguer. Konerko f***ing blows. He looks like the next Richie Sexson. Swisher has been bust and in decline for 2 seasons. These guys don't inspire any confidence from my end. We have 6 good young players: Ramirez, Q, Danks, Floyd, Buehrle, and Jenks. That's it. That is not very good at all. Compare it to Twins roster which is just loaded with young talent.
  15. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) Even though they arent top level prospects, 3 of the 4 players had time in the majors with varying degrees of success ...and only Gallagher is a starter on a real major league team. They dealt Harden for some trash.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) Chad Gaudin would sure look nice as our 5th starter. Chad Gaudin? What about Harden?
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) Acquire another starter by trading Floyd/Danks or Buehrle and Fields? That really wouldn't make much of any sense from a long-term payroll flexibility standpoint, and we'd still have a huge hole in our rotation, bullpen, speed and defense. And I think Josh Fields is quickly losing some of the glow....I wish we could have traded Thornton a month or so ago and Josh Fields in the off-season for more pitching depth, even though we won't keep Crede IMO. Well, the Cubs got Harden for nothing so maybe we could have inquired about that.
  18. I am so glad KW did nothing to improve our pitching at the deadline. Like I said, that is going to be the nail in our coffin.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 12:59 PM) Broadway sucks also. If Contreras isn't going to be ready, shame on KW for not acquiring another starter. This is such an old team that's pretty stupid if you're not going for it. It's only going to get worse.
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) My suggestion to Ozzie Guillen, and mind you it's only a suggestion, is to yank Richard now and use the heck out of the bullpen, which has a day off tomorrow to rest up Some things to keep in mind: A. We won't score 3 runs today B. Bullpen will give up some more runs C. Game is already over
  21. It's ok though, we'll be 4.5 games up at the end of the month.
  22. If our manager feels more comfortable playing Juan freaking Uribe ahead of Fields, why wasn't Fields used in any sort of package to bring us something useful for this season? He's the backup to our backup. If he isn't playing now, what is going to change next season?
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) I'll disagree completely; the Sox play any opponent like they are a .500 team, and further, every other team in the AL (outside of New York, who's at about .500, and LA, who is ridiculously good) struggles on the road too, so that's another factor people aren't considering. Point blank, when the Sox are at home, they are almost always the better team. The Twins are also a sub .500 team on the road and a 14 game roadtrip would exhaust any team. I will say that if I had to give my opinion on this, the Sox are going to go into September with about a 4.5 game lead in the division because 16 of the next 19 are at home and they have a day off before the second toughest roadstand (I consider Oakland harder than Boston simply because they always struggle against Oakland and it is so far out west); I'm also a little more optimistic that the pitching will turn around and that I've seen enough of this offense to know that it's inconsistent as s*** but that the Griffey addition will hopefully bring a little more of that to the team. Look at the Twins road series this month: 3 Sea, 3 KC, 4 LAA, 3 Sea, 4 Oak. I see them going no worse than 10-7 in that stretch. Oakland and Seattle absolutely blow right now, and unlike the Sox, the Twins can handle KC just fine. They swept them @ KC earlier in the season. The Twins are not a good road team but I think their road record is a little misleading right now because they've already played through the most difficult part of their road schedule (multiple series at Chicago and Detroit, and road series at Oakland --when they were still good--, Texas, Boston, and New York). I would say you are out of your mind if you think the Sox will have a 4.5 game lead at the end of the month. Although I do hope you're right. I'll be happy if Sox are within 2 games of the Twins.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 11:56 PM) A Twins fan could say, essentially, the exact same thing. And they're not in first either, so it's a little more justified. The Twins have outplayed the Sox over the last month and a half. We had a 6.5 game lead and it's down to only half a game. It doesn't matter who's in first place right now, just which team looks like will be in first place by the end of September. Given that they've outplayed the Sox recently, and given that I don't really see an end to the Sox pitching struggles, I don't think the Sox can hold them off. But maybe you know something about the pitching that I don't? Clearly nothing is over and the Sox could obviously still win the division. However, it is my opinion that they won't. Twins have more games on the road but the Sox have a harder SOS with 10 more games than the Twins against .500+ teams. I think the schedules even out as far as difficulty is concerned.
  25. Well, it looks as if our pitching is our biggest hole right now. I'm all for upgrading the lineup but is no one even considering spending any money on the pitching? Are you guys expecting Jose to get better with age, or that Vazquez will have another fluke season like he did in 2007?
