QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) The Sox have the pefect hitter for the 2-spot, but no position for him in Getz. I am not going to go overboard and call Getz a great 2-spot hitter when he's never had a ML at-bat. At the same time, if he can play good defense at 3B there is absolutely a position for him.

f*** YEAHHH!!!!!!!

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) We were playing for 2 runs. 2 hitters bunt, especially with 2 on and none out. That is the epitome of a bunt situation. Moving two men instead of one into scoring position for your 3, 4, and 5 hitters is absolutely the textbook thing to do. Well, I wish someone would clue our hitters that we were playing for 2 runs. Because from the swings I saw they were hitting for 4.

From possibly blowing the game open to having the tieing runs on base in the span of 4 ABs. Thanks White Sox.
-
Terrible ABs there. No HRs and we're f***ed.
-
f***; not a good AB by Dye.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) Huge, huge situation for the Sox here. Had a couple pitches to hit to RF.

JD trying to make it 9-4

David Ortiz should get one on his chin.

successful bunt!!

Oh my, pleast let's put this game away right here.
-
As good as the homers were last inning, watching Gavin settle down is even better.
-
Very impressive comeback.

What is our record in Sunday games? I can't even remember the last time we won a Sunday afternoon game. Pretty sure we've lost our last 4 Sunday games.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 12:57 PM) Gavin's finding his release now. For as bad as he's pitched, I have to say this...Lowell's homer might be the cheapest I've seen this season. Lowell's been insanely bad lately. Though he's hurt us this series.

QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) They were saying we cant win because we rely to much on the long ball. What is wrong with that? It's valid.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) Hawk is absolutely pissed off about Gavin's effort so far today. I've never heard him more upset about a player's performance. What is he saying?

QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) this is not fun anymore. we have no pitching Don't worry. We're home now and the Twins are on the road!!

QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:40 AM) Not really. His WHIP is bad this season, but his ERA+ has been around 100 over the previous two seasons. He's about as good as Contreras and costs about the same, so it'd be a lateral move. I don't think that having Washburn as our #5 for a year and a half would be a bad thing, especially since nobody in our minor league system is ML-ready yet and it's imperative that we limit the wear and tear on Danks and Floyd's arms. But I think it'll be a moot point anyway, as the Mariners are reportedly asking for a ton in return. I agree that Byrd is a much better fit, although he's not exactly a tier above Washburn. Byrd not having a $9M contract for next season puts him a tier above Washburn.

I think the Sox completely screwed up with Fields. If you don't trust him at 3B because of his defense, fine. But Fields absolutely mashes lefties which coincidentally is an area where we're pretty pathetic. He could have played 1B against lefties in a platoon role with Konerko/Swisher. Instead we acquired another guy who can't hit lefties.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 09:58 AM) That same guy was throwing pretty well earlier this season, threw pretty well last night before the injury, and was dominating the AL two years ago. Agreed that Kenny should've gone after another starter at the deadline, but let's not call the guy who got Quentin and Alexei for nothing stupid. Key words there. He was a batting practice pitcher the last two months. I am not saying Jose pitching well down the stretch was out of the realm of possibility, but it's certainly not something you can plan on if you're a GM and serious about winning a division title.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) It's unfortunate that this injury didn't happen before the trade deadline. We've been waiting seemingly forever for this guy to return, only to have him end his own season in the second inning of his first game back. That really f***s the White Sox over. I know it's not his fault, but thanks a lot, Jose. You could not have had worse timing if you planned it. Not acquiring another starter before the deadline was still a stupid move. Current injury aside, if Kenny was counting on a 36-to-50 year old pitcher with a bad elbow to be a quality starter the rest of the way he is beyond stupid.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 11:27 PM) It's amazing what's happened in the last 48 hours with regards to next year. 3rd base and #5 starter are serious holes. Umm, you just got the impression the Sox weren't very high on Fields in the last 48 hours? If Juan f***ing Uribe is replacing Fields as a starter, that should tell you something.
-
Freddy Garcia with no arms is still a better big game pitcher than Vazquez. I was reading Vazquez has something like a 5.88 ERA over his last 10 starts. Not really something that's tough to beat.

I wonder if they'll put Griffey in RF? My guess is no.
