  1. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) I am so sick, really I need a KW trade to lighten the mood. We seem like the worst first place team ever when we lose. I guess all this winning is new and when they lose, it's just something we're not used to. I'm just thinking we're not that good. Our record against the good teams outside of the AL Central blows.
  2. 2-7 in our last nine at home. Way to protect that home field, guys. What a disgrace.
  3. Maybe we're really just not that good and have been lucky to beat up on teams from the Central. Here's our record against the better teams: Oakland 2-7 Angels 4-3 (w/o their best player, and arguably their best pitcher) Texas 2-3 Baltimore 2-2 San Diego 2-1 Boston 1-2
  4. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:33 PM) Will Schilling come in the 9th if so our heart of the order is up! It's sorta pathetic when two guys with a .724 OPS and a .752 OPS comprise the heart of the order. :headshake
  5. I just checked the Game Log, this was Wade Miller's best game of the season. :banghead
  6. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) Somehow I knew Captain 2nd Guesser would come up with the numbers. Learn the game, then come back and post. Are you watching what he's throwing? Or just doing your usual, which is 2nd guessing? Do you even know the meaning of 2nd guessing because your little discourse in the last couple of gamethreads makes me think otherwise.
  7. Matsui hasn't resigned with Yankees yet. Wouldn't mind us going after him for the Everett "rover" spot.
  8. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) Giles is still one of the best hitters in baseball. I agree with you there, but will he still be one of the best in year 2 or year 3 of that contract?
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) Wade Miller is a damn good pitcher, how do you figure he's one of the worst? Sox hitters are way off tonite but this guy is damn good, ask the Cubs. Yeah, pitchers coming off shoulder surgery with a 5.00+ ERA heading into the game just screams "damn good."
  10. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) Agreed, right now we are below average overall at ss, 3rd, rf. Average wise 1b, C, 2b. Actually we're below average at SS, 3B, RF (w/Timo), C, CF, and DH. That's just incredible given our record.
  11. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) Paul konerko has 38 rbis in 89 at-bats with men in scoring position. Adam dun has 30 rbi's in 70 at-bats with men in scoring position. Seems very similar to me. Ok, so in your opinion Dunn and his .970 OPS isn't a superior hitter to Konerko and his .836 OPS. It seems as if you're saying they're on the same level because they perform similarly w/RISP (which is also misleading b/c Dunn has a .943 OPS with RISP to Konerko's .795). I guess I just really want you to answer this question: do you think Adam Dunn is better than Paul Konerko?
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) Wow, I didn't know it was that bad. I definitely think our biggest weakness is our offense right now. That's why I think the Burnett stuff is crazy. I would have disagreed with you at the beginning of the game. And while I've said the offense needs help, I was more concerned with the Cubans. This is the type of game that can really confuse us armchair GMs.
  13. I think it's time Kenny placed a call to the Reds.
  14. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) Point is neither has done the job with men in scoring position this year ( at the rate that should be). Uhh, no. The point is that Adam Dunn is better than Konerko. Dunn's ratio of ABs w/RISP (70) to RBIs (59) is 1.18. Compare that to David Ortiz who is at 1.19 (103 ABs w/RISP to 86 RBI). I don't really know what rate you want Dunn to be operating at, but he's clearly up there with the league's best.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:28 PM) Here's my worry with Everett. I have a feeling he's pressing a little with Frank out. Before Frank came back, Everett was struggling big time also, as he couldn't even make contact with the ball it seemed. Everett's swing is so much longer tonight than it was for the last month. Actually, Everett has sucked for the last month (.208 AVG/.651 OPS in July). But I doubt we're even looking for upgrades because of "chemistry."
  16. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) They both drive runs in at a very bad rate. Adam Dunn hits in the #5 and #6 spots whereas Konerko is at #4. And Konerko has had 89 AB's with RISP to Dunn's 70. Pretty significant difference.
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) Yet he's batting .246. If Dunn were on this team he'd get the Paul Konerko treatment. Yeah, except the fact that Dunn has more walks, doubles, and home runs, they're pretty much the same player.
  18. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) Peavy and Oliver Perez come to mind right away. Jason Bay was also traded to the Pirates for Giles, wasn't he?
  19. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) Padres optioned third baseman Sean Burroughs to Triple-A Portland. We're still optimistic that Burroughs will end up as a solid regular someday, but this is a move the Padres had to make. The 24-year-old was hitting just .255/.327/.302 in 255 at-bats. If he's not traded, he'll return in September and act as a pinch-hitter. Jul. 23 - 3:44 pm et Was'nt there some people that liked him on this board? Hmm, I'm assuming Klesko moves to 1B with Nevin gone. Nady, Giles, and Dave Roberts could then handle the OF duties. And with Loretta now back, their lineup looks pretty solid. I'm thinking they'll run away with that division when Eaton comes off the DL.
  20. Good trade for the Padres IMO.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) Also, why would the Phillies give up Wagner now? They're on a pretty good run, and have a solid chance at the NL Wild Card. Not only that, but AJ Burnett looked awful at Philadelphia last week. I can't see why the Phillies would want Burnett. Philly has Urbina to handle the closer duties and have decent enough relievers (Fultz, Madson) to back him up. But their starting rotation, with Wolf gone for the season and Padilla ineffective, probably needs more help.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 12:36 PM) I wouldn't consider Marte for Wagner as swapping relievers, if you know what I mean. However, I thought Wagner has said he might retire after this season. I like what I've seen from Marte since he came back from the DL and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he'll return to where he was in previous seasons. That's not "Billy Wagner good" but still pretty good, and not worth the inclusion of BMac for the upgrade. Plus Marte's cheap and under contract for a few more years. I'm fine with trading him to the Fish though, because Burnett would improve the rotation and Contreras could move to the bullpen, although not necessarily until the post-season. That way we improve both the rotation and bullpen, and I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to acquire a LOOGY for some mid-level prospects. It just seems like such a no-brainer. I guess I'm one of the few who considers starting pitching much more valuable than relief pitching. The Marlins and Red Sox were each able to win the WS with only 2 relievers who had ERA's under 4.00 for the post-season.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) The other part of this is I read Philadelphia did tell KW he could have Wagner for Burnett. Then it becomes Marte/BMac for Wagner. Watching Hermanson last night, and for about the last 4 or 5 weeks, I really think it might be a good idea for the White Sox to get a closer. And I know people are going to jump all over me for that, because I think Hermy only has 1 blown save. Just when you're ripping, remember Shingo was 8 for 9 in save chances, and people were willing to pay for his plane ticket out of town. Wagner would be a godsend. However, you may be able to get Guardado for a cheaper price. That would be a terrible trade then because we're essentially swapping left-handed relievers while also giving up our best pitching prospect.
  24. So have we reached the point where Garland > Buehrle, at least for this season? Garland has wins against Baltimore, Texas, San Diego, Anaheim, Minnesota, Oakland (2), and now Boston.
  25. Thank god for this nice, semi-relaxing win.
