  1. Speculation from Chapel Hill is that it looks like Zeller will be cleared for practice this week. It seemed a lock that he would be a medical redshirt, but now Roy has hinted that he may be back this year. He said that it is highly unlikely that Zeller would stay in school for 5 years and with Ginyard redshirted and Graves dismissed, maybe Tyler Z. will be getting ready to try to contribute by the ACC tournament at least.
  2. I'm not sure how the Duke blowout will go over this week in their preparation for round 1 of Duke /UNC. You can't really get more ready for that type of game, but I'm sure K will be cracking the whip extra hard this week. On another bad note, the dismissal of William Green just shortens our bench that much more, especially after it was finally decided to go ahead and redshirt Ginyard.
  3. UCONN looks to be the clear favorite at this point to cut down the nets this year. Inside and out they seem to have all the bases covered, and with Thebeet patroling the paint on dee it will be a tall order to take them out. There are about 8 other teams with a good crack at 'em, but Uconn has to be the the favorite against anybody.
  4. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) I guess Hansbrough was really upset he sucked so badly in his last game and took it out on NCST. Tyler only logged a bit over 20 minutes minutes against Florida State, due to foul trouble. The Noles defended him well, but he would have had his 15 plus if not for the foul trouble. His game against NC State was far more typical, I don't think there was much anger fueling it. Copeland has no clue of how to act as a scrub at the end of the bench. If any Tarheel would have moved off of the bench to try to restrain him etc. it could have cost the Heels dearly. Bulls*** foul, but know your role. He didn't receive a Tyler Zeller type hit so just take your free throws and hit the showers next time. Roy was clearly upset, and it looked like he encouraged the refs to toss him.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) being that I didnt see the Wisco play, the thing that expedited this incident was the fact Novak was ejected from the game after review of the tapes by the refs. Yeah, I'm not sure if a one game suspension is in order, but some sort of punishment would be nice to see.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) Nice to see I would like to see Wisconsin, or the Big Ten do something similar to krabbenhoff. I was reminded that he had a similar incident last year with a forearm to the throat of Eric Gordan. I vaugely recall the play from last year, but I'm not sure if it was as flagrent and obvious as the cheap shot on Jackson this year.
  7. Great to escape Florida State with the win. Terrible D by the Noles on that last play though, it seemed like they just prayed Ty would miss and steered clear of him. As for the Duke game, Johnson redeemed himself a bit for his total brain cramp on the previous rebound when he was outhustled giving Henderson the extra crack at knotting the game up. Teague seems to defer an awful lot down the stretch of games, instead of looking for his shot (Va. Tech & Duke) he passed up some good looks at key moments in both games.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) From the reply it looked like a clean play all around. Jackson had no idea the Wis player was there, until he was on the floor looking up. I'm really kind of suprised by Wisconsin right now. Their offense is never going to run up and down all game, but they just can't seem to manufactur anything. Take away some of the unexpected 3's by the freshman big guy (something with a "k") and that was a blow out loss at home. And their D was terrible. I dunno how many times Moore drove, not even hard, and ended up with an easy layup. Well, Jackson was going to get a faceful from not seeing the pick, which would have been legal, but the forearm was clearly thrown to deliver a blow instead of just absorbing the contact from Jackson in the chest. If it were the NBA a fine would be certain, but other then a suspension I'm not sure how the league could disipline the guy. Maybe a first time flagrant foul type listing is in effect. I'm not sure, but it was not a clean play at all in my book.
  9. That was a cheap shot by the kid from Wisconsin with the forearm on the pick against Jackson. I think it was Krabenhoff? I wonder if he will get a game suspension or at least some sort of punishment from the league. Anyway a nice win for the Boilers.
  10. Boxing ALL the way for me. The MMA stuff has no appeal to me. Watching Sugar Shane demolish Margarito this weekend was highly entertaining for me. It was quite a surprise because of the manner in which he whipped him. The welterweight division is set for many a great matchup in the near future. LONG LIVE THE SWEET SCIENCE. If you really want "combat" as it is actually done as someone stated, then MMA should allow eye gouges, head butts, blows to the back of the head, blows to the groin, a good bite here and there etc. right.
  11. Harry gave a quick shot back at Mac on the show, by saying that he would "take the high road unlike the guy who writes for the Sun Times and no longer is on radio."
  12. Great night of college hoops yesterday. N'western knocking off Sparty. Va. Tech who owns Wake doing it again to them. Solid Uconn win over 'nova. My Heels hitting their stride in the second half and hammering Clemson. Plus The Terrence Williams show at Rutgers. Gotta love college hoops this year!
  13. QUOTE (Purdue129 @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 11:28 PM) I don't post much here anymore, but figured this could be of some interest to the B10 fans... from the Lafayette JC With him and Kramer Kramer does very little on the offensive side of the court at any time, but especially down the stretch they don't depend on him. Hummel depends on rebounds or others penetrating to create for him, so I thnik it all depends on the play of E'twaun down the stretch. He has struggled lately, and down the stretch of close games or whenever they are bogged down by a tight "dee" it depends on him to dribble drive or create. They are really missing a point guard who can penetrate and Lew Jack is not enough of a threat when he gets into the lane to be that drive and dish guy.
  14. It was nice to see Virginia try to run a bit with Carolina and heave up quick shots. The Heels are tough to deal with when they can get their transition game going at all. Ellington still does not look comfortable with his J though and that needs to change in the halfcourt. Oh well, Clemson Saturday should be fun. Purdue caught a huge break escaping Evanston with a win. Hummel woke up a bit down the stretch, but my "boy" E'twaun continues to struggle. If he is not able to create some shots Purdue is in a world of trouble offensivly, as nobody else on this team can really create off the dribble (LewJack, yes but he is a midget). J.J. is coming along nicely in the low post though. The Big 11 just has no scary teams just a lot of solid squads.Who knows if someone can develop into an elite level type team by March, maybe the Spartans?
  15. Wake was the better team last night, no doubt. As poorly as the Heels shot they only go down by three on the road, though. When the Heels don't get many transition points like yesterday and the BC game they are very beatable. They predicate there dee on turning you over and Rice and Teague protected the ball very well. A bit surpriseing for Teague who is aggressive, but tends to turn it over a bit much. He not only protected the rock, but he abused Lawson getting to the paint at will. 0-2 in the ACC now for my vaunted Heels, but I'm still not terribly concerned.
  16. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 06:55 PM) Roy's "Charmin soft" recruiting strategy is frustrating. He ends up with a lot of good people and good basketball players, but none ever tough enough. The only tough player I remember him recruiting is Paul Pierce. Roy won't seem to recruit Paul Pierce, Rashad McCants types anymore.I don't know how Ginyard & pycho T qualify as soft, and Alex Stephenson who transfered due to family health issues was a brute, but if you see toughness as a flaw in Roy's recruiting, okay. I think they will be just fine even after this BC lose has "exposed" their Charmin like qualities.
  17. I'm looking forward to watching my Tarheels battle West Virginia. It should be a decent matchup, and a nice distraction until the hoop squad gets back on the hardwood.
  18. I'm off to a decent start 5 out of 7, my loses are 11 (Hawaii) I could swore I took ND, oh well, and Fresno as my 7. My 34 and 30 got home safe so hopefully I won't get stung by a big point lose.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 05:20 PM) Ah everyone knows 2010 is the real year to look forward to. On another note, Jamel Turner committed to the Bucks today. Good get for 2010 (football). Gonna take alot to compare to the 2009 class. I like how 2010 looks for my Heels as well. With Bullock & Marshall already committed, getting either Roscoe Smith or Harrison Barnes will make it another SPECIAL class for Roy. Lance Stephenson is said to have his choices unofficially down to Kansas or St. Johns. For awhile it seemed like he might follow Jennings to Europe for a year, but that looks doubtful now. He is only averaging 34 a game so far in NYC this year.
  20. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) Morales, Barrera and even DLH, I'd say are guys who can take a huge punch. How would you compare PBF to them in terms of that?Yes, but he wore those guys out with the consistency of his punches, he didn't put them "to sleep" with his sheer power. Oscar is the guy who is closest to Floyd in natural size, and even in his advanced age and being totally dominated he was never in serious threat of being "put to sleep". A lot of guys have got up from being knocked down (even 3 in one round) by Pac and weathered the storm to compete or even gain a draw/win. I just don't see Pac being able to put Floyd's light out, now winning by a tko if Floyd loses his mind and decides to war with Pac then maybe. Floyd's chin has never been given a real good look though, because he just doesen't take shots right on the button very often, so you never know. In any event I would LOVE to see this matchup.
  21. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) Nova's class is good, but it should still be behind UNC and possibly Texas. UNC, 5 top 100 commits, 4 top 50, 2 5 stars. Texas, 3 top 50 commits, 2 5 stars Nova, 4 top 50, 1 5 star Rivals has Nova with 3 5 stars (14, 16, & 25) with a 4 star at 62 UNC 2 5 stars (6 & 17) with 4 stars at (55,68, & 69) Texas 2 5 stars (5 & 8) with a 4 star at 64 I guess it's all depends on who is ranking them. In any event all three are very strong. Scout has recruits Nova (15,26,28,& 31), UNC (3,18,41,42,63), & Texas (10,13, & 44). ESPN has NOva (11,22,27,35) UNC (3,19,25,49,50), Texas (8,15,72)
  22. Cheek makes it official and decides on Villanova. This will put the Wildcats at the top of the list ahead of North Carolina for the #1 incoming class in the nation next year. Big time talent, but a sketchy recruiting process. Jay Wright is having a stellar year for Nova on the recruiting trail though.
  23. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 11:50 PM) That's not a knock against PBF, no one in the sport right now can take that straight shot from MP. That's why you have to outsmart him and box him. PBF is the kind of fighter who can get it done, unless he decides to go toe to toe with him. If he brawls, yes I think MP will put him to sleep. Hatton doesn't impress me that much. He's had a couple of mediocre performances against no name guys who he should have KO'd. I have to respectfully disagree. Manny does not put people "to sleep" very often. He wars for many rounds and gets tko's. (Barrera etc. much smaller guys) he will trade toe to toe and normally comes out getting the better, but he is not known for big punching. De La Hoya was never shakin' up by one punch the numerous straight lefts that landed right down the pipe was a cumlative effect that wore him down by the sheer number, but not "put to sleep" by his power. Oscar is much closer to Floyd's size as well, as opposed to the guys Pac Man has faced in the past. I would love to see the fight and I give Manny a shot, but not because he is stronger or more powerful then PBF.
  24. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) Floyd would have to duck and weave all night in that weird style of his, but if Pacman tags him, it's over. Floyd's only hope is to beat him on points, he doesn't have enough punching power to ko Pac Man. I had it all backwards, Manny only has one punch, a straight LEFT hand. My bad. From what previous fights of either fighter do you see Pac having the power to knockout "Pretty Boy". Pac can thump, but he's no Hatton or other guys for one punch power, and Floyd doesen't take many, but he has shown that a glass jaw is not one of his characteristics. Pac Man is a naturally smaller guy then most of PBF's past opponents as well.
  25. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) Josh Mayo of UIC might be the 2nd best non-BCS guard in the country right now. Just an amazing shooter, he's actually been more accurate than Curry this year I believe. At the same time, it AMAZES me Georgia Tech got to a national title game under Paul Hewitt. He's a fantastic recruiter, but he couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. He's NCAA Basketball Ron Zook.Mayo is yet another "region" kid excelling at the college level. I saw him play plenty at the prep level, but was never overly impressed with him, I'm glad to see him doing so well.
