  1. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 11:33 PM) Evansville beats Western Kentucky tonight 72-40. Next up, North Carolina for the 7-1 Throbbing Purple Aces! Game is on ESPN at 6:00 Thursday night. Tyler Hansbrough will become UNC's all-time leading scorer, so there should be plenty of "face time" for UE and the MVC. It would be nice if Tyler waited until the Valpo game Saturday, so I could be present to see him pass Phil Ford . Phil will be in attendence Thursday so I do expect a bit of a ceromony. I Miss the great eight matchups being played at the United Center, I normally got a chance to see UNC compete in those, but Valpo will do I guess..
  2. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) I remember Hatton from way back in the day. He hasn't turned out to be that fighter I was hoping he'd be. Hatton is a slow brawler with no defense. His only advantage might be that he's always moving forward and controlling the tempo. I still think Pac Man would beat his ass. I agree Hatton is a brawler with limited overall skills, he only has the proverbial punchers chance against Pac man. PBF on the otherhand would be a solid favorite in my opinion over Pac man. I can't see Pac man hurting Floyd and Floyd would probably be able to slice Manny up (he has been know to cut in the past) . Pac would rather war with his opponant and Floyd doesn't have to do that, so why would he. Floyd is quicker and the fact that Manny is a southpaw wouldn't be as much of a problem as it was for DeLa Hoya with those straight lefts landing right down the pipe on Oscar all night.
  3. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) Self is working hard on Wall and Jeff Withey, the transfer from Arizona. I still wonder how strong the Baylor connection for Wall is. Duke and coach K. is said to be hot and heavy after him now as well..
  4. Count me in the screw B&B crowd. They make my ears bleed that's why I refuse to tune in to the blowhards with very little sports knowledge.
  5. Reports are that Dominic Cheek is scratching Kansas from his list, as he was a bit peeved by them putting him on the backburner while they tried for Henry and Snear. He was a heavy UNC lean early but they jumped of of recruiting him and I can see why. He seems a lot like Tyreke Evens another openly UNC lean guy that UNC recruited early then steered clear of after getting to know them better. Villanova again looks to be the frontrunner for Cheek now. Kansas is said to be wooing their 4th 5 star guard now by amping up their efforts for John Wall. Sooner or later they will get one.
  6. Manny was so dominant it was a joke. Oscar looked old and stiff, time to hang um up golden boy. I still love a good boxing match with the strategy and endurance etc. The sweet science can be just that, the UFC has none of that appeal for me it's just tuning in to see a beat down. Boxing is woefully down, but i still love a good skilled showdown. Watch the Marquez/Vazquez trilogy special on showtime just beautiful stuff.
  7. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 09:59 AM) Bobby Frasor > * He should've went to Illinois where he would get PT though. He basically screwed up going to UNC like Sean Dockery did going to Duke and to some extent, Jon Scheyer. Well he totally blew out his knee last year (the worst of a series of injuries) and he is not the same guy at all so far. He was getting playing time as a backup and doing a soild if not spectacular job until the injury last year. He is still getting PT now, but he has been awful to this point and his PT is diminishing. I think his decision out of high school was that he would rather be a role playing backup for UNC then a starter for Illinois (very reasonable to me). The terrible injuries could have happened anywhere. Scheyer is being featured at a top level national contender. I can't see how that was a mistake. Dockery got plenty of time he just was not up to the task, so maybe if you think he would have flourished in the big 10 opposed to what he showed in the ACC then it might have been a mistake.
  8. Another solid performance for UNC. Not much to be concerned about at this point except injuries, and Bobby Frazier looks terrible. If they stay healthy this should be a fun year for my fellow Heel fans. The Big 11 actually got 5 wins this year, congrats.
  9. Purdue got an old fashioned spanking at home by the Dookies. E'twaun did nothing until midway through the second half and Purdue can not survive with that happening against any good team. He is the only real guy who can create his own scoring oppurtunities and when they are facing a good defensive team and he is shut down it's going to be UGLY for the Boilers. J. Johnson must improve his hands as well. He is extremly light in the ass and limited by that, but if he is unable to catch the ball on top of that then their low post options are pathetic. Same old story for Clemson they tried to piss one away with some terrible free throw shooting, etc. They are talented, but still have to learn how to win. I felt bad for the kid from Iowa he had no chance of hitting that free throw. Miami did it to theirself, but I'm not sure an ejection was neccersary for the slap. So far it has been very competitive challenge, hopefully the ACC will take care of buisness today, but I'll be fine as long as UNC continues to play well and handles Sparty tonight.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 12:14 AM) He has always favored having one true post with an athletic 4 who can stretch the court. The problem has been getting the stud center. When you have Brand or Shelden Williams you can get away with having a guy like Battier or currently Singler at the 4. I don't think he ignores big men, I think he just has a system where he feels he only needs a couple of true post players on his team. McRoberts while a good player didn't really pan out the way they hoped which hurt and Zoubek has not lived up to his ranking at all. He has a couple highly regarded PFs coming in next year btw. Coach K. has also missed on his main big man targets recently. Brandon Wright, Patrick Paterson, and Greg Monroe shunned the Blue devils, and now it seems that he is starting to target more big men in case he swings and misses on the ones he thinks are going to come his way.
  11. I'll be rooting hard for Purdue to Boiler Up tonight against the Dookies. I hope E'twaun can stay dominate and light up Coach K's boys. I was a bit surprised to see rivals rank E'twaun as the #1 shooting guard in the nation to this point, but I do think you have just seen the tip of the iceberg with him. Anyway, go Boilers and the same for my Tarheels tomorrow night against Sparty. I will still go with 8-3 for the ACC overall as my prediction. Wisky plus only two more will be tough, but that's my fearless forecast.
  12. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) Notre Dame vs. UNC tonight. Should be a good one. Outside of the Hansbrough vs. Harangody battle, you have a couple of set of brothers on each side. Too bad Ben Hansbrough and Tyler Zeller won't be able to play though. I will be interested in seeing how the Carolina dee holds up against the high powered Irish. They have been superb so far, but Oregon and Kentucky may just be fools gold. Perimeter dee has been a weakness the past few years, but it has been impressive thusfar. This game should be uptempo from the tip off, it should be fun.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) I didn't expect Indiana to be so poor. Did all of Sampson's kids transfer or something? Plus his top recruits decommitted. Then Crean ran off the three that remained .
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 09:51 AM) If you watched the whole game then you know for much of it Wisconsin was within 5 (they had it at 1 and missed a 3 pointer). Wisconsin just did not have anyone who could successfully dribble up the court besides Hughes. When Hughes hurt his ankle in the first half Wisconsin was up a few points, but Hughes went to the bench and they needed to bring in a true Freshman in Jordan Taylor to handle the point. With the Uconn press it was just a recipe for disaster. I dont really think any game this early in the season is a "gimme" because teams are to inconsistent in terms of level of play. Well they had it around 5 until about 4 minutes left in the half then UCONN spurted to double digits. "Wisky" made one run early on to cut it to 1, but Uconn quickly pushed the lead to around 10 and maintained there for a while until they built upon it with about 5 or 6 minutes left to give me breathing room from a backdoor cover. You are right though there are no such thing as a gimme, but that one was fairly comfortable. The pressure did stymie "Wisky" and Thabeet just locked down the drives to the hoop.
  15. I was glad to see UCONN cruise as I just couldn't resist laying the 5 points they were only favored by. I usually don't play hoops, but that seemed like a gimme. Kansas with the Morris twins did play well, that decommit they made from Memphis really was a blessing for the Jayhawks. My Tarheels had a glorified scrimmage, last night but it was good to see Ty Lawson look sonfident with his three point stroke. If he can make the stides in that area that Ray Felton did in his third season with UNC he may become a much more dominant force much as Ray did in their title season. On a sour note Bobby Frasior looks like he can't throw it in the ocean at this point(solid dee though ), hopefully he can shake off the rust and be able to knock down some threes or Larry Drew will be a larger factor as the primary backup for Ty.
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 08:19 AM) SIU has been scoring a lot of points in the first two games of the year. Unusual compared to the last couple of years. Not sure if it was the bigger floor, nerves, or what, but they couldn't knock down a shot to save their lives. This southern team will put up points. Well, as always I was rooting for whoever was playing Duke, but that game was difficult to watch. The SIU comparision to UCLA is a good one for me. I respect their teams, but it is ugly to watch them play if you are not a fan of that particular team. I would still rather see UCLA butt heads with the Dookies tonight, rather then Michigan though.
  17. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) Now let's get Barnes and Kelm.Barnes seems like a pipe dream, but he may be a one and done guy and Iowa State would be a place he could showcase his talent as THE man, from day one. Is it his mother that works at ISU? I know my Tarheels have offered him, but I still feel they will end up with Roscoe Smith instead. I would much rather see him @ ISU then Duke though, so good luck with him if he does not come to UNC.
  18. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 10:13 AM) Tyler Zeller, broken wrist, out for the season. When you are snakebitten, you are snakebitten. I could have guessed that from how he fell and was holding his arm afterwards. It seemed like he knew it was busted right away (damn, broken in 2 places, immediate surgery to be done). Terrible break, no pun intended, for Tyler and the Heels, Ginyard is suppose to be behind in his recovery as well. Plenty of adversity early on for the pre season favorites. With the red shirt Zeller will get I wonder how that will play with the monster class coming in already next year, especially the Wear twins.
  19. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 12:15 AM) Roy Williams loves leaving his starters in for now reason at the end of the game. I am really enjoying the Morris twins at Kansas. Too early in the season to figure out their tendencies and true talents. That may be, but in this case it was only a 15 point lead with about 4 minutes left (well actually around 1:30 left) . Who else should have been in there besides someone in the top 10 rotation. Remember they were missing two starters already. I do think it was a solid game for UNC. Thompson showed better hands and was much more aggressive, and I LOVE how Ed Davis rebounds. Kentucky is point guard challanged, so the defense may be a mirage, as they do live and die with creating turnovers for the most part.
  20. Look out for E'twaun "schmooge" Moore this year. He may be a 20 plus scorer. I am biased about him but look out, and if the Boilers get some play on the blocks they can be a scary team. J. Johnson has come along a bit, but he is still thin as a rail. A team that bangs the boards may be a tough matchup for Purdue. Moore will exlode this year though!!!!!
  21. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) As much as I don't care about Kansas, I really, really despise Calipari. Gotta love the NCAA turning a blind shoulder to the Memphis Tigers, USC Trojans etc. I guess they don't have the hard evidence yet. I'm still uncertain on the kid from my town Angel Garcia and his status with Memphis. He along with Matt Simpkins were still waiting for official NCAA clearence last I heard. Angel sprained his knee in practice and will be out a month or so anyway, but his grades were crazy low and Coach Cal just keeps saying "he will be fine there is no problem with Angel being able to play. Just seemed shady all along with his signing. Still no official word yet that I've heard of though, seems a no go if they aren't cleared yet though I would imagine. Henry going to Memphis is a huge get for Cal. His parents work at KU, so many thought he was their's to lose for a long while, but it seems like Memphis (with his brother there also) just beat them out.
  22. QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) hey UNC, do Miami a favor and lose Yep, that's just what "we" did. Plenty of oppurtunities to salt that one away, instead the Terps hung around and made the big plays when they had to. Tough loss, but nobody to blame but theirself.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 11:32 AM) How does Duke seemingly never not get a call? I dont know much about URI or the A-10 but i dont think URI was terrible last year. Either way, no excuse for Duke to have played like that. That being said, it was awesome to see them struggle and it baffles how once again they are so grossly overrated to start a season I would have liked to see the dookies go down, but they managed to steal one down the stretch, after being outplayed for most of the game. It is good to get the college hoops blood boiling again The next few days will be fun with the hoops marathon culmanating with my Heels taking on the 0-1 Wildcats. I can't wait.
  24. Jones would of killed Calzaghe in his prime, but with that said it was a solid fight a pretty good watch and for the over the hill Jones not a bad showing.
  25. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Snaer to FSU is the new rumor with Xavier Henry signing with KU in the spring.Sounds very possible, but don't count Memphis out for Henry just yet.
